The Team The leaders: 1 manager (from KERIC), 2 Slovak young leaders, 2 volunteers (EVS, LDV) – following 20-25 children not divided by age during each summer camp. The collaboration with the foreign volunteers/interns – useful to encourage openess and the valorisation of diversities, as well as the study of foreign languages. Team selection Based on: -Diverse collaborations the leaders may realize with KERIC (e.g.: volunteers, YE participants,..) - A formative path: 2 training days + practice (a certificate as camp leaders is issued) Summer camp development It includes: -a preparations meeting - evening evaluation and planning - final meeting and future cooperation (organised at the end of all the camps)

Specify the age group of your holiday centres 6-12 years old In which kind of structure does your holiday centre take place? A public building that our organisation is in. Indicate the period in which they generally take place and the duration Easter Holidays - 2 weeks Summer holidays (usually from the last week of June until the middle of September). Christmas holidays – 1 week and a half. Describe briefly the main aim of your holiday centre and the main activities carried out Activities that developed the creativity of the children and give social support to their families. Final party organised with the parents at the end of the summer camp.


EDUCATIONAL HOLIDAY CENTRE PORTUGAL Organization name:

Associação Juvenil Peniche

The Team 1 leader, 1 youngster, 1 EVS volunteer. One of them has the role of the coordinator (per week). There are more teams following 60 children in total. The children are divided by groups: little, medium, big. Each team follows one group of children. Team selection There is no specific training course to prepare the team. Preparation meetings are organised. Summer camp development and local/social context The summer camp is not residential and children don’t eat at the educational holiday centre. The local network of the organisations is very strong. The social impact is significant.


EDUCATIONAL HOLIDAY CENTRE ROMANIA Organization name: Chance for Life Does your organization manage educative holiday centres directly or not? If not please, specify Chance for Life has three main programs on-going all the year round, programs in which are involved children and teenagers from different categories in risk of social exclusion. In neither of our centres the children spend the night in the centre. However Chance for Life organises camps, at least once a year (for each of the programmes) camps that take place in a special holiday centre. Chance for Life does not manage the whole holiday centre, just the activities with its own beneficiaries. Chance for Life does not manage directly a holiday centre because two of our main programs are in Bucharest – the capital of Romania, which is not a destination for the children’s holiday. Specify the age group of your holiday centres “Chance for Life Scholarship” – 11 – 16 years old “Vodafone Scholarship” – 7-12 years old “Hope for Today” – 18 – 20 years old (but not developed according their age) The summer camp is not open to other children (exception: brothers, sisters of the children target group). In which kind of structure does your holiday centre take place? The usual activities take place in our daily centres (two apartments with 3/4 rooms in a special centre in Sulina ) The camps take place in special resorts at the seaside or in the mountains (cabanas, houses, villas) that we find according to our request or with whom we have a long partnership. Indicate the period in which they generally take place and the duration The activities in the Chance for life centres take place all year round (apart from the month of August). During the holiday the children have activities 5-6 h per day. The camps usually take place in July (and they last for 7-10 days), all the activities being managed by Chance for Life team.


EDUCATIONAL HOLIDAY CENTRE ROMANIA Organization name: Chance for Life Describe briefly the main aim of your holiday centre and the main activities carried out “Chance for Life Scholarship” – a daily centre in working with 13 intellectually gifted children whose families are very poor. During the holiday they participate in all kind of alternative activities: out-door activities (games, treasure hunt), drama courses, music courses (electric guitar and drums), interactive visits at the museums, camps, etc. “Vodafone Scholarship” – focuses on providing support and guidance to 30 intellectually gifted children from Sulina, who were born in families at risk of social exclusion. “Hope for Today” is a program where Chance for Life’s specialists and volunteers work with HIV institutionalized young people on a daily basis. During holidays, the teenagers participate in various activities and projects to give them the opportunity of living a normal life: cooking, travelling, sewing, etc. Main focus on education: during the camps, our beneficiaries participate in different activities, all of them with the goal of developing their personality and their knowledge: Visiting the surroundings program with interactive visits, games that develop the logical thinking, the creativity, the movement abilities, the personality, the social skills – friendship activities. The Team. Team selection The Chance for Life team who follow the children all year long, including EVS volunteers. The long-term EVS volunteers involved in the summer camp follow a 2 days training course. Summer Camp development and local/social context It is a residential summer camp outside the city. There is no social service.


EDUCATIONAL HOLIDAY CENTRE SPAIN Organization name: Asociación Telecentro de Ayerbe Does your organization manage educative holiday centres directly or not? If not please, specify No. We don´t manage directly an EHC. The association is inserted in a small village within a rural area in the region named Prepirineo. In the frame of EDHOC project we have a covenant/agreement with ADESHO group, a local action group funded by Leader initiative ( structural European funds). In the area are several holidays centres that will participate in the project thanks to EDHOC. The concept of a CENTER as it is defined in the project is quite difficult to find in Spain, and it doesn´t exist like this. It is common to find similar initiatives but more focused on Tourism and without a clear educational perspective. On the other hand, in the area there are three different spaces that develop educational residential activities mainly for children and youth, and occasionally they organise something else involving the families. In this direction we would like to participate in the project, giving the opportunity to this centres to go deeper in the topic. Also in addition to this, next 2013 and 2014 we as accreditated org. by our local Govern, we will implement three long term trainings “Monitor de tiempo Libre” and “Director de Tiempo Libre”. These 2 diplomas are the ones officially required to work in non formal education and in leisure activities in places like Youth Hostels, centers, etc. EDHOC project will contribute to improve these training processes and also to involve relevant actors in them as educators. Describe briefly the main aim of your holiday centre and the main activities carried out Structure: - Activities in small groups - Activities in the big group There is no parents’ day organised.

The Team. Team selection The organisation of summer camps follows the national regulation regarding the place, what (activities) and who (people and organisations participating). Children are divided in groups by age, each group of 10 children followed by a leader. The team includes another leader who doesn’t follow a group of children, having the role of ‘coordinator’. Summer Camp development and local/social context The leaders don’t sleep with the children. Daily evaluation meetings are organised. At the beginning – emphasis on risk prevention. The camps are organised by the public administration.


Local FOCUS GROUPS (LASTING ALL THE PROJECT PERIOD) All the partners involved in the project will create a local reflection group including educators, coordinators, trainers and parents interested to invest in the pedagogical and methodological process of sharing and exchange during all the project. This committee will be open also to people that will not take directly part to the mobilities, but that will be anyway involved in the hosting activities in their country, taking care about the international partners.

MOBILITIES CALENDAR


TRAINING COURSE (5 days) This activity will involve 1 coordinator/trainers and 1 educator for each partner and it will coincide with the annual training activity organized by Cemea del Lazio for all the personnel working in the spring and summer educational holiday centres. It is intergenerational. The training course, developed following the active methodology proposed by Cemea’s movement, will explore all the elements necessary for the preparation of any professional involved in EHC residential activity, opening the first methodological comparison and confrontation between ED.HO.C. partners.

The TC proposes experiences and opens spaces for reflection: working groups, common life, games indoor and outdoor, songs, dances, non verbal communication, manual work activities. The main aim is to agree on a common language and lay the bases of a common reference framework, absolutely needed to be able, during the mobilities, to further develop the research on the base of the themes associated to each visit.


STUDY VISIT (3 days) It is associated to a specific theme, first to be discussed at a local level, within the local Focus Groups, and then shared during the visit

The programme of the Visit – given at least 15 days in advance.

It will consist in a direct participation as observer to a local educative situation led by the hosting organization

The SV Report – shared within 15 days after the SV.

It will have space for practice the tools observed It will have a theoretical and pedagogical discussion about what observed and focused on the main theme assigned to the visit. Structure:  time for knowing the local reality  time for see, action  time for discussions on the SV Focus  time for realising the thematic paragraph

The people participating to the Study Visits have to report/transmit the results to the EDHOC coordinators from the partner organisations and to the Focus group.  Estimated costs:  ES: 70/75 € per day + private local transport  PT: 50€ per day (local transport not needed)  SK: 50 € per day (including local transport)  RO: 40 € per day (local transport not needed)  Follow-up for 2014: organising possible extra mobilities (e.g. exchanges of leaders)


STUDY VISIT IN RO (3 days) The theme associated to this visit is STRUCTURE that is focused on the context, the logistical and structural working conditions that should be ensured for an educational holiday centre. Structures connected with different educational projects.

STUDY VISIT IN PT (3 days) The theme associated to this visit is ACTION that deals with the mission of the educational holiday centre and, therefore, points at the methodological and pedagogical approach that the involved operators should have. Possible structure: reflection (in the morning) and games in the centres (in the afternoon)


STUDY VISIT IN SK (3 days) The theme associated to this visit is COMPETENCIES, that covers the profile of the educator, in particular its competencies as a professional working in an educational holiday centre. Visiting other educative services.

STUDY VISIT IN ES (3 days) The theme associated to this visit is VALORIZATION that is dedicated to providing the necessary guidelines for a homogenous pedagogical format to be developed by the evaluation and monitoring group leading to the experimentation phase. Visiting other educative projects.


MID TERM EVALUATION (3 days) It will be held in Portugal. Being member of the monitoring and evaluation group and of the pedagogical and methodological group, the Portuguese partner will coordinate the activity aiming to sum up all the contributions drawn during the mobilities in the different countries, pointing out the possible common pedagogical framework to be tested in the local Educational Holiday Centres, during the next phase of the ED.HO.C. project. The meeting will follow two main directions:  an exchange about the Quality Chart written during the Study Visits  the evaluation of the cooperation and communication inside the partnership


EXPERIMENTATION PHASE (FEBRUARY – JUNE 2014) The local focus groups’ reflection, after sharing the practices directly experienced in the other countries and the reflections about methodological and pedagogical approaches developed, on the base of the Quality Chart recommendations, will be responsible of the process of change inside the partner organization they belong to, representing the “engine” guiding the experimentation phase needed to test common results in their own reality, before to become definitively part of the ratified Quality Chart for Educational Holiday Centres.


FINAL EVALUATION (3 days) The Final Evaluation (FE) will have to integrate all the contributions coming from the experimentation phase and to ratify the official text of the Quality Chart for Educational Holiday Centres that will be presented to local authorities and media during a public event in the last day.

The FE will offer the possibility for discussions regarding the project follow-up within the partnership: finding opportunities for the creation of educational holiday centres; exchanges of team members between partners; organisation of international holiday centres. The meeting will last 3 days and will see the participation of 2 representatives from each international partner of the ED.HO.C. project, except from Portugal that will have 3 participants.

The Final Evaluation meeting and public event will see the participation of 2 representatives from each international partner of the ED.HO.C. project, except for Portugal that will have 3 participants

FINAL PRODUCT The final aim of the project is to elaborate a Quality Chart, that will identify the educational holiday centres which can really be called “educational�, by fixing and communicating to the external the basic elements needed to recognize a high quality. This document will be a common inspiration for all European educators, coordinators and trainers, on one hand, and a referring point for parents who want to make an informed and aware choice on their children educative free time opportunities, on the other hand. The idea is to give value to high quality educative services thanks to a better preparation of people employed and to give parents and externals a tool to read this particular dimension.


FINAL PRODUCT WORKING TOOLS to be used:  FORUM (nowadays BLOG) with common guidelines useful for the final chart FINAL PRODUCT USE:  INTERNAL DOCUMENT for the trainings & preparation activities for educators/operators and, in general, for the educational holiday centre team  EXTERNAL DOCUMENT useful to ‘sell’ the Chart that has the objective to guide parents and institutions to read the educative dimension of the educational holiday centres TECHNICAL DETAILS  The Quality Chart must be a printable and downloadable PDF product  The Quality Chart product must be both in EN and in all the languages of the ED.HO.C. partner organisations (ES, PT, RO, SK)  Possible to realize SPECIFIC PRODUCTS in each partner country (e.g. Photobook) that include the Quality Chart IDEAS for the Quality Chart form  It can be a FLYER: printed Chart with photos, games, questions, a map for parents to help them get oriented

TASK SHARING THE COORDINATOR: It will be the promoter of the entire project: it will be in charge of the internal communication, keeping the timing for the different activities. It will organize the kick off meeting, the first training seminar (both in Italy in order to visit also the Italian experiences on educational holiday centres) and the final seminar, connected to the final public event that will follow.

THE MONITORING AND EVALUATION GROUP: One staff member per each partner organization will be part of the monitoring and the evaluation group during all the project. This group will be stable and at least a representative will be present to all the mobilities. This group will assure a constant and continuous monitoring of the process through tools created by the group itself, like evaluation schedule, questionnaires, etc. This group will be in a constant contact with the coordinator and it will be in charge of proposing the structure for the experimentation phase to be settled in Portugal during the mid-term evaluation (lasting from February to June 2014). It will be formed by: Maria Teresa, Giulia, Mirka, Manuel, Quique, Iulia.


TASK SHARING PEDAGOGICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL GROUP: Associação Juvenil de Peniche (PT), Keric (SK), Telecentro de Ayerbe (SP) together with the coordinator, will be in charge for the drafting of the pedagogical and methodological conclusions coming out from every visit, on the base of the associated thematic. These materials will be the base for the draft of the Quality Chart for the Educational Holiday Centre, to be ratified during the final meeting and presented during the public event. It will be formed by: Quique, Manuel, Mirka, Maria Teresa, Giulia.

DISSEMINATION AND COMMUNICATION GROUP: Chance for Life (RO) and Telecentro de Ayerbe (ES) will be in charge of creating a coordinated communication approach and a strategy to disseminate results during and after the public event. They will support the partnership preparing effective tools for communication about the project and they will investigate local realities of each partner to propose a personalized action plan for dissemination.
