CEMS Alumni Career Advice from Jan Schöne
How to get to know us and how to apply for a job at E.ON Inhouse Consulting (ECON)? How to stand out? Essentially there are two ways of getting to know us and taking the 1 step towards your application at ECON. First, there is our website www.eon.com/econ that does not only provide you with a lot of information about us, what we do and our people, but also allows you to apply online. Second, we run a huge number of events at various universities in Europe throughout the year, a fair share of them exclusively for CEMS. They are an even better way to get to know us personally and to experience our daily working through one of our case studies. st
We look for outstanding profiles with excellent academic and professional track records and a drive for both energy and consulting. You can thus especially impress us with previous internships in either management consulting or the energy sector. Highlight the relevant skills and experiences in your CV and let your personal motivation clearly stand out in your cover letter. How to excel in interviews? Expect the interviews with ECON similar to “common” consulting interviews that test both your professional aptitude and personal attitude. Being able to crack case studies together with the interviewer will be a big asset. Thus, familiarize yourself with some concepts to approach them and practice your basic math skills to be able to quickly shuffle around some numbers. Naturally, knowing the basics about the energy world is essential. An even bigger asset will be your personality and attitude throughout the interview. Openly show us what working with you would be like and what drives you in your personal and professional life. How did you become consultant at ECON and how does it feel working for ECON as a CEMSie? Through internships in energy and consulting I realized that a job combining the two would be perfect for me. On the one hand, I wanted to kick off my career in the currently most fundamentally changing industry. On the other hand, I saw and still see a lot of benefits in the quick succession of different projects so common at consulting. After an online application, I was quickly invited and each one of my interviews convinced me even more that ECON is a cool place to work with great people. Seeing that the CEMS family at ECON is growing steadily and prosperously reminds me every day of how happy I am about being an ECON CEMSie. The CEMS spirit of having an international mindset and being agile is a great asset to anyone working in consulting and I am pleased to see that so many CEMSies have shown an impressive development and career progression at ECON.
If you are interested in consulting, want to work in an international environment and would like to keep the CEMS spirit up, we are looking forward to meeting you! Do not hesitate to contact me directly via jan.schoene@eon.com if you have any professional or personal questions.
