Time Zones

Beginning to Intermediate

Tim Collins & Mary Jane Maples, Catherine and Richard Frazier Time Zones is a motivating new four-skill series for young teenagers. It combines a communicative approach with National Geographic images, video, and content. The series features an educational syllabus that comprises four exciting content areas: people and places, the natural world, history and culture, science and education.

Unique features: Four cartoon characters from China, Sweden, Brazil, and South Africa – young teenage photojournalists – appear in each unit, presenting language and factual information in a light-hearted manner. National Geographic images, video and content give learners an understanding and appreciation of other countries and their cultures. Multi -ROM for each level comes with National Geographic video clips, exercises for comprehension and language practice, audio recordings from the Student Book, additional pronunciation activities, and more. Educational syllabus built into the series provides learners with cross-curricular practice in other subject areas (such as math, science, etc.), as well as developing critical thinking skills. Systematically teaches high frequency vocabulary for this age group, which is also useful for learners preparing for standardized tests. Content words needed for some of the readings and other information are included for comprehension, and passive recognition.

Now with engaging National Geographic images, the new edition of the Great Writing series helps students write better sentences, paragraphs, and essays. The new Foundations level meets the needs of low-level learners through practice in basic grammar, vocabulary, and spelling, while all levels feature clear explanations, student writing models, and meaningful practice opportunities. An all-new level, Great Writing Foundations introduces students to the basics of sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary for writing. Impactful National Geographic images open every unit and help to stimulate student writing. Updated “Grammar for Writing” sections help students apply target structures to the writing goals. “Building Better Vocabulary” activities highlight words from the Academic Word List and encourage students to use new words in their writing. The new Online Workbook provides additional practice in grammar, vocabulary, and editing to help students improve their writing skills.

Spotlight on First / Advanced FIRST: John Hughes, Jon Naunton Advanced: Caroll Nuttall, Francesca Mansfield

FIRST: Upper-Intermediate ADVANCED: Advanced

This is a new edition of the Spotlight series which updates the material to match the revised specifications of the Cambridge: First (FCE) and Cambridge: Advanced exams which are coming into effect in January 2015.

The key changes for the Cambridge: First (FCE) exam are: Four papers instead of five. Reading and Use of English have been combined into a single paper assessing language knowledge and reading skills. Approximately 30 minutes shorter than the previous examination. New tasks and testing focuses in the Writing and Speaking papers.

The key changes for the Cambridge: Advanced (CAE) exam are: Four papers instead of five. Reading and Use of English have been combined into a single paper assessing language knowledge and reading skills. Approximately 45 minutes shorter than the previous examination. New tasks and testing focuses in the Reading and Use of English, Writing and Speaking papers.

National Geographic video and Ideas Generator syllabus Feedback from teachers tells us that students often have problems with the speaking and writing NOT because they don’t know how to say something but because they don’t know WHAT to say. This is particularly true of younger candidates who have less experience of the world. There are 8 National Geographic videos which provide a launching pad to help students generate ideas and form opinions. The strategies include: Mind-mapping a topic Seeing things from another person’s point of view Asking yourself ‘wh’ questions

New Speaking Test video A ‘real’ unscripted Speaking Test with an examiner and two candidates. Students analyse the candidates’ performance through worksheets in the Student’s Book. There is a brand new full Practice Test in the Student’s Book (in addition to the updated Practice Test in the Exam Booster Workbook).

Essential Practice Tests

Upper-Intermediateto Advanced

First: Charles Osbourne, Helen Chilton, and Helen Tiliouine Advanced: Charles Osbourne, Carol Nuttall, Tom Bradbury, and Eunice Yeates IELTs: Mark Harrison, Russell Whitehead, Chris Gough, and Susan Hutchinson Exam Essentials is our major British English exam preparation series combining exam preparation, practice, and tips. This effective combination of testing and teaching has proved a popular formula with teachers and students. The first two practice tests in each book are ‘walk-through’ tests. Students are carefully guided through the tests and shown what they have to do to succeed in each part of the exam. Additional step-by-step support for the Writing paper is offered in all the tests. All of the tests are written by experts in the field, which means that students preparing for the exams experience material that is appropriate for and at a level at least as high as the actual exams. Candidates internationally often find the Speaking test very challenging. To help them deal with this, each Practice Test book comes with a DVD-ROM which includes a bespoke video showing a complete Speaking test interview as well as an examiner talking about this part of the exam and giving students expert guidance on how to approach it. The DVD-ROM also features worksheets to use with the interview and all the Listening test files.

Features and Benefits Now double the amount of practice test books! 6 complete tests and 2 fully guided tests with Essential Tips, guide students through each part of the exam DVD-ROM with bespoke video showing a complete speaking test interview, expert guidance and worksheets and listening test files
