TEACHING EFL WRITING
With 30 years of experience in ELT, Isabela Villas Boas holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Arizona State University and a Doctorate in Education from Universidade de Brasília. She is the Academic Superintendent at Casa Thomas Jefferson, Brasília. Her main academic interests are second language writing, teacher development, leadership, and assessment. She has presented in various local, national and international ELT conferences and published articles in journals and book chapters. She also supervises distance M.A. dissertations for the University of Birmingham and is a local DELTA 2 tutor.
THIS BOOK IS ADDRESSED to teachers-in-training or teachers in skills-integrated EFL programs who have no or very little training in the teaching of second language writing. While the most well-known methodology textbooks have a chapter dedicated to teaching writing, it is usually limited to very basic and limited information regarding how to address each stage of the writing process. Conversely, the prominent books on second language writing are too extensive and academic, and most are aimed primarily at teachers of writing per se, not necessarily teachers who teach writing along with other skills. The purpose of this book, thus, is to provide a practical framework for the teaching of writing in skills-integrated EFL programs that is accessible to any teacher and that will empower teachers to select the right materials, adapt any materials they use, or even develop their own materials in order to teach writing to its full extent in their classrooms
