Athletic Training and Conditioning The sports medicine program at Centenary College provides students with an opportunity to participate in intercollegiate athletics in the safest and healthiest way possible. A well-rounded program for student-athletes directed toward the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries is enhanced by team physician Dr. Mike Kelly and orthopedic surgeons Dr. Louis Rizio and Dr. Robert A Defalco. The athletic training staff includes Head Athletic Trainer Dana Baffuto, Associate Athletic Trainer Kevin Davies and Assistant Athletic Trainer Eddie Giroux. The fitness center, located in the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center, gives Centenary students and student-athletes a safe workout environment where they can improve their agility, speed, flexibility, strength and conditioning. Using the fitness center gives each athlete a chance to improve their overall fitness, therefore making them more competitive in their sport of choice. In 2006, the fitness center was expanded to include a separate cardio room as well as the weight machine and free weight areas. The renovation also brought in brand new state-of-the-art strength and fitness equipment that should fill all our student-athlete’s seasonal fitness needs.

Tim Fusina begins his first season as head coach of the Centenary College men’s basketball team during the 2013-14 season.
The 2013-14 season will be the second for Sean Stolzenthaler as assistant men’s basketball coach at Centenary College.
From 2008-2013, Fusina served as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Washington & Jeffer-

son College. He helped guide W&J to one of the most successful periods in program history as the Presidents claimed the 2009 ECAC South Region championship and earned 20 victories for just the second time in team history during his tenure. Under Fusina’s tutelage, five of his players garnered all-conference accolades. Prior to arriving at Washington & Jefferson, Fusina spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg. At UPG, he coordinated recruiting and prepared scouting reports, while aiding in game planning and preparation. A native of Charleroi, Pa., Fusina earned his bachelor’s (2007) and master’s (2008) degrees in sport management from California University of Pennsylvania. Fusina is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Basketball Coaches (NABC). In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, he has also served as an instructor at numerous summer basketball camps.
Stolzenthaler was a four-year starting point guard at Catholic University from 2005-09. He led the Landmark Conference in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio during his junior and senior seasons. Stolzenthaler continued his playing career in 2010 on the USA Select Pro Basketball Tour Team playing in Hungary, Finland, and England. He has also worked basketball camps including the Hoop Group and the Pocono Invitational Camp, coaching some of the top middle and high school players on the east coast. In addition, Stolzenthaler has coached the Mid-Jersey Mavericks AAU team.
Season Preview The Centenary College men’s basketball team aims to continue its move to the top of the Colonial States Athletic Conference during the 2013-14 season under new leadership. Zachary Liu enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Centenary College men’s basketball team during the 2013-14 academic year. Liu previously coached in the collegiate ranks as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg during the 2007-08 season. At UPG, Liu scouted and recruited high school athletes and assisted with game planning. Liu has served locally as an assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at Wachtung Hills High School (2008-10) and at Warren Hills Middle School (2010-13). He is currently the program director at Hoop Nation, LLC in Colonia, N.J., and the director of the Hoops Camp at Wachtung Hills in Warren. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in 2008 from the University of Pittsburgh, Liu earned his master’s degree in physical education from Manhattanville College in 2013.
Head Coach Tim Fusina enters his first year on the Cyclones’ bench, inheriting a squad that has improved its victory total during each of the last three campaigns. After missing the postseason by one game twostraight years, Centenary reached the CSAC Tournament in 2012-13 and posted 13 victories, the highest single-season total since the College moved to NCAA Division III prior to the 1998-99 season. The Cyclones will feature a young squad as half of the 14-man roster is comprised of a seven-player freshman class. However, Centenary will also have a veteran presence with five experienced seniors that Fusina expects to bring leadership to the team. “Our upperclassmen have shown that they worked hard in the off-season and are prepared to help this program take the next step. I really like the growth that I have seen from everyone during the preseason and from the coaching staff ’s perspective, we are excited about the great potential this team has,” said Fusina, who spent the last five seasons as the top assistant at Washington & Jefferson College. Senior guard Kyle Malavasi (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) is the only returner to average more than five points per game. Malavasi, a career 38 percent shooter from threepoint range, was one of two Cyclones to appear in all 26 games in 2012-13 and will be expected to take on a greater scoring role this year.
