Why America?, an initiative of the Center for Education Reform (CER), aims to increase appreciation for this country’s founding by introducing 4th-8th grade students to invaluable historical resources in and around the Nation’s Capital.
WHO: All District of Columbia charter school educators with responsibility for any group of students in grades 4-8 are invited to apply to enroll in the contest. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: With your students, create and implement a project explaining WHY AMERICA? using one of the themes covered in this year's program: • • •
The Constitution and Its Origins Hamilton’s Vision The Father of Our Country & The Presidency
• •
Citizenship and Suffrage The Military, Memorial and Flag Days
HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Send an “intent to apply” email to events@edreform.com. Once we receive your email, we will send you a registration link for the contest platform which will accept your digital submission. ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES: 1. Any teacher can enroll his/her class to participate, however, having attended at least one event of Why America? is a plus. 2. Each submission should demonstrate use of or understanding of the materials supplied in the program teacher resources guides at https://edreform.com/whyamerica/. You may also use information and materials from the prior year’s season (2018-2019). The project may take the following forms: Written essay or document
