Why America? The Father of Our Country & the Presidency Wednesday, March 4, 2020 – 10am–2pm George Washington University Jack Morton Auditorium

TEACHER GUIDE OVERVIEW

Why America? The Father of our Country & the Presidency Our third program will revolve around the decisions made by the Congress on who should execute the contract. Students will engage with George Washington, his friends, and the enslaved people who were instrumental in the early nation’s success.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE TRIP

The program, at George Washington University, will show how the founding fathers selected George Washington to be our first president, the role of the executive branch of government, and will feature a historical interpreter portraying George Washington. The program will also look at George Washington as a slave holder, through the eyes of an enslaved person via the interpreted story of Ona Judge, a Washington family slave who escaped.
