xSMALL WORKS

Just as great oaks can grow from small acorns, so too can great art collections begin with small works. That was our thought behind this new exhibition, 12 x 12 x 12: Small Works, a sizable collection of scaled-down 2D and 3D works from 90 different artists, hailing from nearby mountain towns to as far off as Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. From the standbys of oil, watercolor and bronze, to contemporary constructions of encaustic wax, mosaic, and assemblage, there is something for every taste and, importantly, budget to be discovered.

We had over 300 submissions for this show. Many artists new to CAE, and a great representation from some more familiar artists. However, very few of these artists usually work small. It was wonderful to see everyone step outside their comfort zones and discover the beauty that can be found focusing on small things. I’m so grateful to our amazing CAE staff: Lisa, Amanda, Emiko, Zach, Jackie, and Tom, for being the best co-workers ever and for helping this show come to life. I also couldn’t have done this without the help of Patsi Pohle, Bill Heubner, and Elaine Sparrow. Our volunteers are just as much a part of CAE as our staff, and I appreciate you! 12 x 12 x 12 is generously supported by the Colorado Gives Foundation and SCFD and runs from March 28 through April 27.
