Happy New Year to you, and happy 50th anniversary to CAE! What better way to kick off our special year than by honoring the artists who are the heart of our CAE artist—our studio artists. Atelier, which is French for “a workshop or studio used by an artist,” is a celebration of creativity, community, and the profound connections that make CAE so special.
This exhibition brings together four extraordinary artists—Joe, Tricia, Carmen, and Jessica—whose talent and heart inspire us every day. Beyond their remarkable artistry, these four are cornerstones of our CAE artist community. As our first inhouse artists, they embraced the challenge of bringing their studios into our space, creating a dynamic environment where art is constantly evolving. We love having them just upstairs, where we can witness their process and see their stunning works come to life every day.
We are also thrilled to celebrate the curatorial debut of Chris Stevens, our new Exhibition Director. Chris has already made an incredible impact on our team, and I know his artistic vision will elevate the CAE gallery and enrich the arts across our mountain communities. We can’t wait to see all the new conversations he will spark through the artwork he brings in.
To our sponsors, LIV Sotheby’s, Colorado Creative Industries, and SCFD, we are incredibly grateful for your support; you help make these exhibits possible. To our staff, thank you for making this the absolute best place to work in Evergreen. And to you, our patrons, thank you for joining us to honor these artists and their work. Together, we’ll keep inspiring creativity and community through art.
With gratitude,

JOE GLASMIRE
My parents enrolled me in art classes when I was 11 years old. Later in high school, I excelled in art which led to a degree in Art Ed. After college, I taught high school art for seven years. During that time I completed a Master of Fine Art with an emphasis on drawing and print making including lithography, intaglio and mixed media drawings. After teaching art I changed careers. I retired March 1, 2014 after 32 years in the pharmaceutical business and now enjoy pursuing my lifelong interest in the visual arts. My wife and I live in Evergreen, Colorado near our two daughters, son-in-law and 5 grandchildren. Life is good.
I get my inspiration from nature and, in particular, the subtle and sometimes bold contrasts in light, color and shadow during different times of the day. My subjects include landscapes, still lifes and other images from Colorado, Pennsylvania and my travels around the United States. I prefer the contrast you see early in the morning and late afternoon. The media I use include watercolor, oil, soft and oil pastels, graphite and colored pencils, gouache and an occasional mix of all. The style of my work alternates between tightly controlled drawing to a free and fluid use of the media I am using. I love to draw and paint while in the comfort of my studio with great music playing in the background. It’s not much more complicated than that.

CARMEN LEIGH
It began with some crayons, my little sister, and hot summer days on my Papaw’s front porch. Arkansas summers and working in the garden with my sister, Katrina, fill my earliest memories with happiness and warmth. After a day of gardening and shelling peas, we would bring out a fresh box of crayons, colored pencils, and butcher paper to create dreams and new worlds on paper — something I continue to do to this day. It’s always been clear to me that God put me on this earth to be an artist and create beautiful things to share with the world.
I grew up in Denison, Texas, where I met and married my high-school sweetheart, Scott, to whom I’ve been married for 34 wonderful years. Our two beautiful boys, Tristan Scott and Logan Maverick, carry on creating in new and inventive ways through their music, photography, and engineering. It’s evident to me that they were put on this earth to create beautiful things as well. My family’s unwavering love, support, and warmth are what have supported me through thick and thin — no matter what.

JESSICA LOVING
A dappled partition of light falls from a breathing ceiling. Enormous arched ribs hold up needly, leafy greens, evoking the oldest and purest principles of Gothic architecture. Light and shadow tangle and ultimately seep into one another — a watercolor tapestry that never settles; a Rorschach form always searching. Their conversation of back-and-forths can be seen on the ground beneath — soft sigh of dark, response of light. Canopy is the distillation of this conversation. The visual poetry of light and shadow at play beneath the richness of a lush tree canopy. A world contained in the rhythmic meanderings of coolness and warmth.
This body of work has served as a place of meaningful ritual and retreat. When creating the work, I initiated the painting session by immersing myself in the forest. It is a sacred environment; a world contained where one can explore and inhabit. When the rough edges of society rattle and rage, here is this beautifully encapsulated space where sounds are softened, light is filtered, storms are blunted and all that remains are held by the tangle of earthen giants holding up the sky. That’s where these reside.
These mixed media paintings were created by layering pigment and crushed stone, light-reactive materials such as glass and metallics amid a crystalline finish. They are inspired by light and thus seek to engage actively with the changing light of their environment — continuing to participate in the neverending call and response of these contrasting forces.

TRICIA ROSENTHAL
The best thing about painting is that it changes how I see the world. I see it more clearly. I see it with more depth, more color, more character, more life. The most difficult thing about painting is capturing all of that on a two-dimensional canvas with a limited palette. As I have learned to use color, I have become bolder in interpreting what I see, and I find it exciting and challenging to try new subjects and new approaches. It has taken me decades to acquire the awareness and appreciation of the world that I now rely on as an artist.
