Welcome to our first exhibition of 2024, We 3. We 3 is an exhibition that tells a story—a story of friendship, a story of creating art to navigate and celebrate lives well-lived, and a story of connection. Grace, Amy, and Kate have known each other since their high school days at Arvada West High School in the 1970s. Long-lived friendships like theirs aren’t to be taken for granted, especially when art is the tie that binds these three amazing women. Grace Eberl, Kate Kennedy, and Amy Thorton are each beautiful artists and people in their own right. They are deeply thoughtful about their work, incredibly kind, and although they are all so different, their trio of friendship and art is something we all wish for. And they’re a whole lot of fun, too! This spirit radiates not only in their relationships, but in their colorful and energetic artwork. Vibrant, dynamic, immersive. Spend some time soaking in the beauty of each artist’s collection, and then stand back and admire the juxtaposition of their work. The combination of their pieces, just like their friendship, elevates the story to another level. It has been my honor to work alongside Grace, Kate, and Amy the last few months. Thank you to our generous sponsors, SCFD (the Scientific Cultural Facilities District) and Colorado Gives Foundation, and to all of you for making exhibitions like this possible. With gratitude,
Sara Miller Senior Director

ABOUT WE 3 Welcome and thank you for joining us as we celebrate six decades of artistry and friendship! In the early 1970s, we began our art studies at Arvada West High School under the tutelage of Mr. David Passarelli. Each semester we mastered new techniques with serious critiques. Art class proved a fertile opportunity to launch our many decades of artistry. Thank you, Mr. Passarelli! Grace Eberl is a lifetime student, artist, and patron of the arts. Her studies have ranged from Red Rocks Community College, Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, and ongoing workshops in encaustic, oil, watercolor, and acrylic. Grace’s dynamic artistry celebrates figurative and landscape subjects. She’s been an active member of the Art Students League of Denver for more than thirty years. Married to her high school sweetheart, Kirk, for 48 years, they’re successful entrepreneurs devoted to their two children, Lacey and Cody, family, and ongoing travels. She believes life is a grand adventure to be lived with integrity and gratitude. Kate Kennedy continued her studies at Red Rocks Community College and then Colorado State University (CSU) before excelling in the field of promotional advertising and graphic design as a Creative Director, for over 25 years. Two of her greatest creative achievements are Madeline and Ben, her amazing adult children. After leaving the promotional advertising world she launched her full efforts as a fine artist and teacher with the Art Students League in Denver. Kate has shown mainly in Denver galleries and participates in the annual Summer Art Market at the Art Students League of Denver. She passionately shares her love of florals with both students and collectors. Amy Thornton received her B.F.A. at CSU and then traveled through Europe to live in London. Later in Manhattan she juggled art shows with marketing jobs in the fashion industry. Through her fine art business, Amy Thornton Artworks, she has created large corporate and residential art commissions. She was an Art Director at the Colorado History Museum and Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and Creative Director for Colorado Parks and Wildlife before leaving to fulfill a lifelong dream of authoring her first creative non-fiction book, Chance to Change: A Midlife Resurrection. Her enthusiasm for transformation never ends. We encourage all young artists to always keep learning and stay connected. The synergy will keep you motivated and encouraged throughout the years. Enjoy our show!

MEET THE ARTISTS
GRACE EBERL As a child I would swing for hours, creating songs in joyful response to the leaves dancing in the wind, the glittering snow, and the blue sky holding the sun and birds. I knew that Mother Nature was speaking to me. My paintings are my heartfelt response to life always in a dance of wonder and gratitude. Through art I have always been searching and experimenting. Embracing the freedom to “paint outside the lines,” I seek creative expression through abstraction, energy, and a vibrancy of color and texture. Whether drawing or painting, my love of the human figure is a constant source of challenge and awe. Each day, year, and decade of my evolving artistic expression has been a profound adventure. With unending curiosity and passion I am constantly honing my skills with voracious studies and work with renowned artists and teachers. My sincere desire is to give myself and others a positive emotional experience.

MEET THE ARTISTS
KATE KENNEDY With over 3,000 species, flowers are the most diverse organisms worldwide. For us, they represent different symbols, emotions, and significant life events while bringing vibrant hues and delicate shades of color to our everyday experience. Through my paintings, I revel in the opportunity to capture not only the beauty of flowers but their intricacies. Using oils and a wet-on-wet painting process, I attempt to capture the energy of these unique blooms. Thank you for sharing my journey of capturing the expression and beauty of the botanicals that are my subject. Despite the cliché, flowers are powerful.

MEET THE ARTISTS
AMY THORNTON I like to call my artistic journey an “Artobiography.” The six decades of my life all reflected in the evolving techniques and styles leading to the abstract painting you see here today. Best shown through the visual time line below, the life of an artist is an extraordinary opportunity to find a graceful balance within the complex dimensions of daily living. The many layered textures and colors that fill my paintings reflect my passion and energy for life. They record the dance of releasing the mind and living in the moment to ride the wave of whatever is happening–right now.
