Top 10 things successful people have in common Every day we meet, read or hear about successful people. From great artists, top sportsmen, inspiring speakers, to colleagues that everybody like, cherish and follow. What do those people have in common? Are there any particular characteristics they all share and which are the basis of their success? If you look into biographies of successful people, you can notice that they have some things in common: 1. Hard work. Successful people work very hard and they are keen on practising or rehearsing things until they come out perfect. Their outcome is only the tip of the iceberg; it is only that 10% that people see. The rest of 90% is preparation and hard work. 2. Focus. When they do something, the rest of the world disappears until they stop. All their attention and all their resources work together for a common goal, to complete the current task they are on. Many times, they forget even to eat or sleep, so much they are absorbed into their action. They just don’t let themselves overwhelmed by “urgent-not important” issues that crowd their agenda. They are keen on prioritizing. 3. Passion. They like what they do or they do what they like. Either way you put it, they enjoy their work, they are so passionate about it, that hard work is a pleasure and a must for them. Do you think that Beethoven could have written any of his works without passion? Or Van Gogh would have been able to paint so astonishing if passion was not there? Of course not! 4. Curiosity. Successful people want to know. They want to learn. The questions they most frequently ask are not “What? When? Who?” but rather “Why? Or How?” The best way to repeat a successful action is to know why was it successful, what was that little trigger that generated attraction and recognition. 5. Empathy. Have you noticed how many people like successful guys out there? It’s because their way of coming into resonance with others, their way of establishing rapport. Highly successful people are empathic and often it happens that despite their solitude, many people like them and feel good around them. That is because of their high level of emotional intelligence, because of their abilities to listen and learn from the world. 6. Responsibility. They are fully responsible of their acts. When something happens, they don’t waste time to search for who’s to blame, they rather move on to finding what needs to be done next. They don’t complain and they don’t look for pity. 7. Self-improvement. Successful people work on themselves, they change with the times, they learn from the past. Look at the famous singer Madonna: how many times did she completely change her style? Too many times. Each time when she felt the need to shift to something new. The result: she was appreciated every time by her fans and she’s still in tops after so many years. 8. Humor. They appreciate humor, they live in this spirit, they do serious things with relaxation and joy, they don’t rush or get hurried just to see things done. 9. Creativity. Successful people think out of the box. They search for new ways of doing things, when they don’t find something very comfortable, they try to adjust it to serve them better. Going with the flock is definitely their way of life. 10. Flexibility. There is a saying that in an organization, the most flexible element always wins. It is true. Think no further than your workplace. Which are the colleagues you value most? Aren’t they the ones who are flexible, who can adjust themselves so much that they can understand your point of view? Yes, success comes with a large dose of flexibility, and this does not mean that such people do not have their own opinions. Not at all! It just means that they know how to listen and how to act to see things and actions going their way. They know how to spot opportunities and change them into more joy, satisfaction and success for themselves. Now give it a thought and see what are your characteristics. Do you have something in common with highly successful people? If not, maybe it is time for a change, isn’t it?

Six Things That Make Us Look Older Six Things That Make Us Look Older

4. Smoking

Stress, pollution, smoking, sunlight together with alcohol and processed foods can compromise the skin’s immune system, leaving it open to damage and to visible signs of premature aging.

Smoking is one of the worst things we can do to our bodies and is one of the main reasons for premature aging. Not only does it increase the risk of cancer and heart disease but if you have a family, passive smoking can also damage the health of the people closest to you. Smoking is bad not only for your health, but also for your beauty. It decreases the flow of blood to the skin, leaving your complexion dull, promotes wrinkles and fine lines, deprives your skin of oxygen and robs your body of essential vitamins. Smoking constructs the tiny capillaries that nourish the skin and ages skin faster than anything else apart from sun damage. Smoking results in broken capillaries, dull complexion, premature aging, reduction of collagen which is essential for a healthy skin, loss of elasticity and thinning of the skin.

Your lifestyle, as well as your eating habits are very important for your beauty and health. There are 6 things that certainly lead to premature aging of the skin and aggravate your state of health. 1. Stress Stress really makes us older. It's proven that the stressful situations decrease your protective powers of your organism and the skin cells age faster. If you feel strenuous take a deep breathe and close your eyes for seconds. Stress compromises your ability to fight off disease and infection. This makes it difficult to conceive a baby. It often leads to headaches, fatigue, high blood pressure, weight loss or weight gain, skin problems, nail biting, teeth grinding, smoking, dark circles under the eyes, wrinkling, and increase acne problems. It can even rewire the brain, leaving you more vulnerable to everyday pressures and mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. Stress tightens facial muscles and cause expression lines. Constant Stress can also contribute to acne by stimulating the glands to plump out more oil leading to more breakouts.

5. Excessive Sun Exposure

Excessive alcohol intake is among the main causes of premature aging. Scientific studies have proven that alcohol dilates the blood vessel in the skin which leads to sagging skin and wrinkling. Excessive alcohol intake worsens acne, causes broken capillaries and leads to skin rashes, red spots and itchiness. Alcohol makes skin appear blotchy and seriously dehydrates your skin and body, which destroys the body's supply of vitamin A. Drinking too much also interrupts your beauty sleep. A glass of red wine at night may be beneficial as it acts as an antioxidant.

The sun is enemy number one of our skin. Excessive sun exposure always dries out your skin and increases the risk of skin cancer. The sun is the leading cause of dark, brown spots on the skin which can easily ruins radiant skin. Sun radiation is responsible for most of the unpleasant skin conditions as appearance of brown spots, wrinkles and fine lines, sagging of the skin, premature aging, and enlargement of blood capillaries on the face. Excessive sun exposure often leads to rashes, itchiness, dryness and skin cancer. That's why it's essential to use a sunscreen every day, even during the winter months.

3. Sedentary Way Of Life

6. Polluted air

The lack of enough exercising often leads serious health problems. You don't have to spend 3 hours at the gym every day, a 30 minutewalk a day will be enough to keep your body in good shape. Not exercising regularly decrease the blood circulation, influence the venous and lymphatic system which usually leads to cellulite. Recent studies show that most older adults aren’t getting enough activity because they don't walk, exercise and don't follow a balanced diet. A sedentary way of life seriously affects our state of health. It results in muscle loss, lowered aerobic capacity, high blood pressure, increase risk of developing dietetics, weight gain, decrease muscle strength and flexibility.

The air pollution not only irritates your lungs but also affects the way you look. When we breathe in air pollution, very fine particles enter our lungs where they can cause many serious problems: breathing problems, asthma, and nausea. High polluted air irritates the lungs, cause nausea, coughing and chest pain, damages blood vessels, and affects the immune system. Air pollution seriously affects the skin... it increases the oxidation of the sebum, causes pimples formation, allergies and rashes. Air pollution can also aggravate health problems for the elderly and others with heart or respiratory diseases. Smoggy air may lack moisture and cause skin dehydration.

2. Alcohol

Buff Up: 5 Winter Nail Care Tips When winter hits, it's as if us women have to switch up everything! Not just our wardrobe, but our hair and skin regimes as well. You didn't forget your nails, did you? Our nails take quite a beating each day, but even more so when you're hustlin' and bustlin' in the bitter cold. Looking to prevent your nails from breaking? Follow these five essential tips. STEP 1: Care for Your Cuticles Massage your nails daily. That's right - when you moisturize your hands, spend a few extra seconds concentrating on your cuticles and nail beds. This helps to keep your nails moisturized and feeling the love. While lotion can do the trick, we love using jojoba and olive oil on our nails. Massaging at night with oil makes for a perfect pre-bed pampering session. Burt's Bees Cuticle Lemon Cream ($6, burtsbees.com) makes for a great portable cuticle moisturizer that you can use any and everywhere you go. STEP 2: Avoid Dishpan Hands It's the one chore that we all dread. But whether we like it or not, washing dishes is inevitable. Protect your nails by wearing gloves each and every time you wash and rinse dishes. Even nails that are hard as steel are no match to soapy water, which can make them dry and brittle. Need a little fashionable inspiration to avoid your standard yellow rubber mitts? Try dainty, girly dishwashing gloves by Horchow ($35, horchow.com). For a two-in-one treatment, apply oil or cuticle creme to your nails before putting on the cleaning gloves. STEP 3: Buff Up We've been using them for years, but emery boards aren't as effective as we thought they were. While they can get the job done, they also leave your nails jagged and prone to snagging and ripping. Crystal nail files are a better option as they glide over nail tips instead of tearing at them. While they tend to be a little more expensive than emery boards, they are more hygienic, made from recycled material and last a lifetime. It's an investment that your nails will love you for. Arizona Sun crystal nail files can be used on natural or artificial nails and last a lifetime. $8.95, amazon.com. STEP 4: Go Hard Use nail hardeners. If your nails keep breaking left and right, you may want to invest in a nail hardener. We think Sally Hansen's line (varying prices, sallyhansen.com) contains some of the best and most affordable ones on the market. Choose the best one for your nail care needs and, with prolonged use, your nails will be healthier and stronger. STEP 5: Stay Painted Keep nails polished. Sometimes simply keeping the nails polished on a regular can prevent them from chipping and breaking. Treat yourself to an at-home manicure by moisturizing your nails (try to avoid soaking, which expands the nail bed and makes polish chip sooner). Apply a base coat, nail polish color and top coat. We'll admit it, the average nail polish does not last more than a few days but if you're up to it, apply touch-ups as needed. And if you can't find time to re-apply nail color, remove it all and start over! Zoya nail polishes are vegan, cruelty free, and long-lasting. $

Toni Braxton Considers Posing for Playboy Looks like the hits (of a different sort) keep on coming for Toni Braxton. Having just announced the pickup of a reality show, 'Braxton Family Values,' comes more news from the 'Un-break My Heart' singer. This afternoon Braxton took to her Twitter account to ask fans their thoughts on the possibility of seeing the songstress grace the cover of Playboy magazine. "New Year, New opportunities," she tweeted. "So I have been considering taking up Playboy's offer to feature me on their cover this year. What do you think?" Having recently filed for bankruptcy, perhaps Braxton is trying to use her physical assets to recoup some of her financial losses. She certainly wouldn't be the first. In October, the 43-year-old singer filed for bankruptcy for the second time in her career. According to court documents, Braxton states that she is worth between $1 million and $10 million, with debts of up to $50 million. After what were likely concerned responses from her followers, Braxton told them that the photos would be tasteful (just a little T & A she added). She also tweeted that she'd like to pose with Hugh Hefner and proclaimed him the sexiest man over 30. Hef is likely hoping that the third time is the charm, since Toni claims she's been approached to pose for the mag twice before. Perhaps the timing is right since the spread might help the the public focus on something other than her financial woes and the lackluster sales of her most recent album, 'Pulse.' It will likely spur interest in her new reality show as well. Although she hasn't made the decision yet, only time will tell if showing the world her goodies is shrewd or just plain lewd.

Hiv disproportionately Affects Blacks & Hispanic One in 16 black men in Washington, DC and 1 in 40 black men in New York City are HIV infected. Of these new infections, 20% are unaware of their status, and continue to unknowingly spread the virus. More than a quarter of new infections occur in predominantly Black or Hispanic women since the risk of infection increases within the same sexual networks. According to El-Sadr in the New England Journal of Medicine: 1.

'HIV disproportionately affects poor Black & Hispanic Americans who have substandard education, unstable housing, and limited social mobility. This confluence of factors may result in high rates of incarceration, which threaten a community's social fabric. Such vulnerable populations must engage in research, program development, and interventions that are culturally relevant and address the socioeconomic milieu in which HIV transmission occurs.'

HIV has become an epidemic within the Black & Hispanic population, and this needs to be acknowledged so we can expand the dialogue and save the millions of people who will be newly infected in the next decade. Tips to help you and those you care about fight against a disease that is ravaging the Black & Hispanic community: Get Tested: Knowing your HIV status will help to stem the tide of new infections. Use protection: Condoms are a smart way to engage in safe sex, and they stop the spread of HIV. Be smart and protect yourself. Dialogue: It's time to talk about HIV/AIDS so that it will no longer be a silent killer in the Black & Hispanic community. Teach your kids about the dangers of HIV and unprotected sex and talk about it with friends and co-workers. As parents, caretakers, health officials, radio personalities, and media writers, you are the first line of defense against HIV and it is in your power to open the lines of communication. Education: Insist that HIV prevention and education be taught in schools, in jails, and find ways to make it accessible to the whole community. Research: We must engage in our own research to understand the scope of this pandemic within the Black community, and find funding for new ideas to help stop the spread of this disease.

The power to fight HIV/AIDS lies in our hands, and we have to take the lead on this issue if we want to see real change happen in our world.
