10 rules every young Black & Hispanic boy should follow when they are stopped by the police Getting stopped by the police can be harrowing for anyone, but black males are especially vulnerable when it comes to contact with the police. In the wake of the Trayvon Martin tragedy, some parents are reminding their sons that they do not stand on equal ground in this society and because of race and their sex, they are automatically seen as suspect in American society. So, here are 10 things that we should teach our sons when the police confront them. 1. Stop immediately. Make sure you pull over in a timely manner so that you are not suspected of running. 2. Never, ever run from the police. It gives them a reason to use violence on you. 3. Never return violent police action with violence because you will be hurt. Put you hands up and say, “I am not resisting.” 4. Keep your hands visible at all times. Don’t reach in your pocket and don’t appear to be reaching for anything within your car. Keep you hands on your steering wheel and visible. 5. Don’t talk back. Be OVERLY respectful even if you feel that you have been unjustly stopped. 6. Follow the officer’s instructions clearly. If you don’t understand the instructions ask for them to be repeated. 7. Be careful of the way you dress because, in some people’s eyes, your clothing makes you a suspect. 8. Be careful walking in groups because you can be considered a gang. 9. Make sure you say your name, where you live, and where you work. It makes you more human in their eyes. 10. “Always, always do the right thing”—Spike Lee. Your actions during a police stop can mean the difference between life Afro/Latino

The report notes that it's possible that the real number could be much higher The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement is not the only group challenging police violence against African-Americans. The Stop Mass Incarceration Network has been challenging the policy of stop-and-frisk in New York City, in which police officers randomly stop and search individuals for weapons or contraband. African-American and Latino men are disproportionately stopped and harassed by police officers. Most of those stopped (close to 90%) are innocent, according to the New York Civil Liberties Union. Stop Mass Incarceration also organizes against the War on Drugs and inhumane treatment of prisoners. Along with the rate of extrajudicial killings, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement report contains other important findings. Of the 313 killed, 124 (40%) were between 22 and 31 years old, 57 (18%) were between 18 and 21 years old, 54 (17%) were between 32 and 41 years old, 32 (10%) were 42 to 51 years old, 25 (8%) were children younger than 18 years old, 18 (6%) were older than 52, and 3 (1%) were of unknown ages.

killing Of Four Latino Men by Police Sparks Protests In Salinas, Calif. After police in Salinas, Calif., shot and killed four Latino men since March, local authorities are rejecting demands for a federal investigation. Salinas Police Chief Kelly McMillin told NPR member station KQED that even though his department "has nothing to hide," a federal review would be premature since internal investigations of the shootings are still pending. But the killings, including one captured on video on May 20, have soured police-community relations in a city that bills itself as the "Salad Bowl of the World." In that incident, 44-year-old Carlos Mejia was waving a pair of garden shears at officers before he was fatally shot. More recently, 39 year old parolee Frank Alvarado, was shot and killed on July 11 after authorities said he approached officers pointing a cellphone. The police apparently thought it was a weapon. Two other men, 26 year old Osman Hernandez and 42 year old Angel Ruiz were killed by Salinas police on May 9 and March 20 respectively. The series of fatal shootings have sparked angry protests and demonstrations in a community of about 150,000 people. Salinas is also 75 percent Latino. Calls for a federal inquiry into the killings began in May, but they were amplified recently when Oakland-based civil rights attorney John Burris announced that he has requested action by the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division. "We want to find out whether these shootings were a pattern of discriminatory law enforcement or four isolated incidents," said Burris. The shootings are "uncalled for, questionable, and alarming," he added. The Justice Department had no comment on Burris' request. Burris issued his call for an investigation on the steps of the federal courthouse in San Francisco, not Salinas. He was joined by relatives and supporters of the slain men, including community activist Margaret Bonetti. "The community is not trusting the local police department. We're here in San Francisco because we feel we'll get more justice here then we will out of Salinas," said Bonetti. Salinas Police Chief McMillin defends his officers and rejects accusations of racism.

Parents/Guardians! Recent data suggests that the 2014-15 9th grade class entering Reading High School (RHS) will have less than a 60% chance to make it to graduation. Only half of those who do manage to graduate will go on to college. The reason we exist is to help make the graduation rate 100% for our student participants and provide them with the support, encouragement and skills required to grow and thrive in the new economy after graduation. If you know a student entering the 9th grade at RHS for the 2014-15 school year and you want to provide him or her with a unique support system throughout their entire highschool career to register you for our program by going to www.sharedgrowth.org/register or e-mail us at fab@sharedgrowth.org for more information. Thank you! The staff at Shared Growth, Inc.

The propaganda with Black Life... Jail cells, yellow tape, and miseducation; 3 norms that need a strong and swift rearranging in a Black Community that for the most part is non- existent. Black America will spend nearly a trillion dollars in 2014. Cunsumption without creation and production equals a continuous pattern of unstability, how does a trillion dollars get spent and those dollars get circulated in other communities yet we buy into the crab in a barrel mindset. I'm begging readers to join in my mission to change these norms. Our children need a community to assist in their greatness Donte' Williams, Dave Banks, & Fonzi Colbert young Black Men caught in the web of chaos is seemingly way too acceptable by US. Black Lifes transformation from scholars and intellectuals to hanging from trees, gangbanging, and drug dealing is leaving a everlasting impression on vulnerable minds. Propaganda is the spreading of ideas, information, or rumors for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, a person or group of people. The injuries Black Life has sustained is going to forever need a positive consciousness and rid the complacency way too many Black People subscribe to, either people are "good" and succumb to the propaganda, don't know their roots, and/or haven't got a clue to the chess match being played. Economics is our salvation, establishing resources, and creating opportunities are our ways out of poverty, we cannot expect young people to stop detrimental behavior without showing and providing meaningful positive outcomes. What if 50 people myself included all of whom earn 50k annually decided to save 10% of our income and invest in real estate and/or tax lien certificates? That is a quarter million dollars accompanying the Kwanzaa principle of cooperative economics. I formed 7 Strong Black Men with that principle in mind to better our community and generate wealth in the process. You are the difference and our children need YOU, I guess that is why there's Y-O-U in YOUTH. Now let us be the Kings and Queens on the chess board and reprogram the Propaganda with Black Life. Who got the props? If we can dump buckets of ice cold water on each other, we certainly can greet each other respectfully!!! Sincerely, Mr. iCARE Afro/Latino
