Atlantic Avenue I heard about Atlantic Avenue thru my friend Deb, of D.M.E. I came to one of their show and was really impressed. I’m starting to become a big fan of their music. Its clean cut, very inspirational, and fun. I don't want to label or compare them, I just want you to check them out. They’re serious about what they’re doing and they have a nice website where you can find out anything you need to know about them. In the short time Atlantic Avenue has been in existence, they have certainly made their presence known in Pennsylvania and are spreading their name across the country, letting people know that they are here to stay! Atlantic Avenue's music combines catchy pop-rock music topped with sing-along choruses that will remain in your head for days and leave you wanting more. Atlantic Avenue just released their debut EP "One Night Only" and completed an East Coast tour and have no plan of slowing down, so keep your eyes and ears open because Atlantic Avenue is about to make some noise. Having had their music played on MTV2 as a featured artist, and having been nominated for an MTV VMA Best Breakout Artist of Philadelphia and non-stop touring throughout 2010, this young up-and-coming band is rolling the dice and ready to take on the world.

Mobile Deathcamp Interview with Todd Evans from Mobile Deathcamp By: Nicolle Marie PI: Todd, How did you come up with the name of your band? TE: Actually it was almost makeshift deathcamp. I was breezing around on the internet; I was looking at this Ukrainian goat farm, and other different things from Cuba and the Guantanamo Bay deal, when they were first throwing people in the pits and stuff there. And we said ok, makeshift death camp, and the next day we talked to the guy who was getting it all together with me, and I called him and said hey yea the name’s cool, mobile death camp, and he’s like no, we said makeshift, and he’s like no mobile is cool, it flows a lot better. And then the deep version is that mobile death camp is like the earth, like because of all the crazy shit going on, on the planet, its like a death camp itself, and it’s mobile because, well I don’t if you know or not, but it spins around and to the side and stuff.. PI: Haha, yeah I’ve heard about that.. PI: If you were to describe the sound of your music in 4 words, what would they be? TE: Umm… vicious, speedy, chocolate, and fun! PI: Where or from who do you draw your inspiration for your music or the writing process? TE: Oh from everybody. And I mean anybody and everybody. Me, you, Nicole, both you Nicole’s, this magazine.. Plug’d In TE: Wait, is this going in the magazine? PI: Yea, im going to write it out later.. TE: Well ok then. Honestly, the truth is, a lot of my inspiration is from when I get Plug’d into the Nicole’s. so hopefully I’ll get some inspiration tonight. That would be, umm, fantastic. TE: But you know, inspiration from everywhere, like from Black Sabbath to BB King, it’s all over the place, Jazz, Rap, Blues, Metal, are all our inspiration, and also just people, like people in general, who aren’t even in bands, could be somebody we meet in the street, just people who have heart. PI: So you were recently signed to Sacrifice Records Inc., How is it having Label support? TE: Well yea we’re in Sacrifice Records Inc. and you can’t forget the Inc. because Sacrifice Records.com is a Christian Label but they have since folded, I believe. So our label is trying to get the .com back for themselves. But the label is really cool. They are doing a lot of stuff for us. They’re just not giving us money to be out on the road….yet. But with promos and records and stuff like that they helped, And we’re getting the new album out real soon. Probably in a couple months it will be out. And they get good distribution so it will be out like nation wide. PI: Can you tell us where to find the album at? TE: Yea anywhere where cool records are sold! Haha. Any mom and pop shop or I believe they will be distributed to Best Buy and places like that.
PI: What happened to the tour you were supposed to play with Cycle Of Pain? TE: Cycle of Pain!, wow, yea, that’s a tender spot Nicolle! Well, not that tender. Well, yea it is. Because, Cycle of Pain is cool, but the guy who was booking the tour is a douche. TE: And,.. wait, what are you holding right now? PI: The voice recorder… TE: Oh damn. I just looked and I thought you were holding a zapper or like a tazer haha. PI: Haha, what would you do if I just tazed you right now? TE: Well you’re going to wish it was a tazer after this interview is over! Because you’re fucking hot. I don’t know if you guys reading this have ever seen her but yea, both Nicole’s are lookin’ very yummy tonight! Damn. And you better print all this!
TE: Now what was I talking about? Oh yea the guy booking it was a total douche, I think I’ve established this. So, we come home early from a short tour and our manager called and said there was this guy named “blah blah” and he’s booking Cycle of Pain, and COP want you to do direct support for them, and I was like Yea Cool! And in COP is John "JD" DeServio from Black Label Society, this is his band, so I checked them out and they are pretty good, and I mean John is awesome, and if I got to meet Zakk (Wylde) that would be great. PI: Wow, yea I pretty much love Zakk Wylde, he is amazing. TE: Yea haha and I though MAYBE we could get some dates with Zakk and Black Label Society and.. PI: Could you get me some dates with them? TE: Music dates? Like a show or, WAIT, NO I see where you’re getting with this. Well, I’m telling you right now you’re going to have to blow me before I get you a date with Zakk Wylde, and I will collect my payment early, like in 10 minutes, haha. TE: So this guy tells me the tour will start in March, it doesn’t, then in April and May, and now we come to June and we’re already booked to tour with GWAR, so I was like fucking great, this isn’t going to happen. And the guys making excuses and blaming it on John and saying Zakk won’t let him out of the studio ands stupid shit like that, and wouldn’t put me in contact with anyone, and then just never called me back. Cycle of Pain is great, just this guy was a piece of shit. Haha. PI: You’re with GWAR on this current tour, how does it feel playing with another band on the same tour as GWAR, do you ever want to get back up on stage with them again? TE: We did a couple shows with them last year in the fall, and I’m friends with all those guys, but you know I played bass for them, and I don’t miss playing bass at all, I’m a guitar guy, I can’t really get off on stage, as they say, playing bass, but with guitar im better. I don’t really know if the people agree with me or not haha, I don’t know. On the inside I feel a lot better. But, um, no I don’t really miss it. I do miss getting on a nice bus though! Haha. And umm I miss, what do they call that stuff, oh, yea, Money! I miss getting paid like they do. Which is a lot more then we make, which is substantially nothing. Ha, I can’t lie about that. But no I do miss the camaraderie and shit like that. PI: If they ever asked you back, would you? TE: I don’t know. Never say never. PI: If you were to make your own tour, who else would you play with? TE: SLAYER! It wouldn’t matter who else, but definitely Slayer, maybe The Athiarchists from Eugene Oregon, they’re a punk thrash speedy metal like band. They’re going to be on mayhem this year, well they actually bought a U-Haul truck and cut a 16 foot door in the side and they will be playing in the parking lot at every mayhem show. They’re real awesome. Definitely check them out.
PI: So what’s next for Mobile Deathcamp? TE: Well we have the album coming out soon. And also, this guy that we are friends with has an alligator park in Florida, and we play on his commercials and we did his theme song. He’s going to be on True TV soon because an alligator bit his hand off and he’s on one of those “craziest moments” shows. Maybe he will get famous and give us some money or something. So that’s pretty much the game plan for right now. PI: Well I hope that works out for you. Haha. Thank you so much for talking with us. TE: Oh no, Thank YOU!

Into The Pits w/ Dan The Economy Sucks, but you should still drop a couple bucks on this. Sacred Serenity “Divulgence” In December of 2009, Sacred Serenity released their seven song debut to the underground metal scene in package titled, “Enemy in the Clouds.” Showing the perseverance of the band; vocalist Pat Scanlon and guitarist, Nate Parker found Kyle Peronteau to play drums and Dave Jamison to tear up the bass. May 22, 2010 the four musicians released, “Divulgence” creating a new standered for themselves The opening song, “Homicidal Generation,” begins slowly with a few harmonic notes and distorted chords that make listeners unsure of what exactly is going to come. The tempo quickly turns up and the harmonics abruptly move into a melodic poppy-metal song that should remind metalcore fans of “Two Weeks” by All that Remains. Lyrically the song is by far the best on the album with the line “Kill or be killed that’s the choice I have to make in this world, I choose to kill.” this is by far one of the most badass lyrics I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing. Just as the rest of the album, “Homicidal Generation” has the perfect mixture of breakdowns and melody to create a well balanced sound that fans of all metal sub-genres will appreciate. Nate Parker’s guitar work on this EP is truly the driving force behind the songs. Whether quick or slow he hits the head on each riff leaving no mistake on this audio piece of art. Particularly the song, “Prisoner of Regret” has what to me sounds like the most technical guitar work seeing as it sounds most like something that I could hear, Between the buried and Me writing. The whole album is filled with riffs that will impress music critics everywhere. The line up choices Pat and Nate made definitely had a positive effect in the song writing process. Dave Jamison adds clear distorted bass lines and some pretty epic bass sweeps over the breakdown in the song “Prisoner of Regret.” Kyle Peronteau keeps steady rhythms while adding his own flare to each song. Heading towards a more progressive style of music, the CD ends with the slower song, “Divulgence.” Not my favorite song on the EP but it can definitely be appreciated for its musicianship and soothing rhythms. Six tracks which are all worth listening to come clocking in at 31 minutes and 40 seconds that will give you a new appreciation of what an unsigned band can do when they put their hearts in the music. On Tour w/Lizzy Borden Interview with Lizzy Borden By; Bandi Budwash When you’ve been listening to a great “American Metal” band such as LIZZY BORDEN for half your life, being charmed by the story contained in every song and finding different meanings for the lyrics, getting an interview is surreal. So when I got the chance to interview LIZZY BORDEN’s charismatic front man who also bore the infamous moniker, I knew it would be an encounter I’d never forget. It took place right before he went onstage to perform. He was already in costume and make up, but he was such a down to earth, goodnatured guy with an infectious laugh, that when he wasn’t portraying “Death” onstage, he’d be lounging around in basketball shorts. We talked about touring, his accomplishments, and the process of writing an album. We could have talked for hours but had to cut it short due to fans beckoning the master himself by chanting “Lizzy! Lizzy!” PI: If you could put together the ultimate tour, who would be on it? Lizzy Borden: That would be KISS and LIZZY BORDEN. PI: If you could be remembered for one thing during your musical career, what would you want it to be? Lizzy Borden: That I wrote good uniting anthems that kind of transcended through continents. I think that’s probably the one thing I would like to be remembered, beyond the show beyond anything else, just that I wrote songs that connected with people that live on the other sides of the world. PI: Is there anything that LIZZY BORDEN has yet to accomplish? Lizzy Borden: Oh the list is longer than the one that I’ve accomplished. I’ve got tons of things, you know, touring the world. We’re doing South America for the first time so that’s one of the things I’ve been dying to accomplish, and we’re finally doing that. We’re doing our second big European headlining tour, which is going to be a whole lot more fun than the first, and the first was a ball. PI: Tell us about your most disastrous tour experience. Lizzy Borden: That would be this East Coast run. It’s difficult playing the United States in this day in age, for us anyway. It’s tough cause we’re in that thing where we’re capturing a much younger audience, but we’re playing 21 and over places so we can’t really reach them, and our 21 and over audience has kids at home, this and that, so they can’t necessarily come out during the week so its like, you’ve got your weekends, so we’re kind of stuck in that zone. Hopefully we’ll be able to band together with other bands or jump on a tour for the next round and it’ll be a whole lot better than this run. We’ve had a ball though. We met a lot of great people and had a lot of fun. PI: Are there any plans to record a live DVD of an upcoming show? Lizzy Borden: You know, I get asked that just about every day. We want to do it. It’s just a matter of doing it the right way. We almost did one when our guitarist Alex was alive. We were going to do it in Sweden or Switzerland. We were going to do the whole Murderess Metal Two type of thing, but it didn’t work out. Then we talked about doing it for this thing. At the end of the year will be the last time we do this Appointment With Death tour, and this is the closest thing we’ve done to the Murderess Metal Road Show. I would love to do it. We might do it on the European run, but I’m not sure yet, but if not then, we’ll do it on the next tour. We’ll do it at some point.
PI: Where do you find inspiration? Lizzy Borden: It’s the desire to do something different, you know, once you start an album it’s like a piece of clay and you have to turn it into something. You have to take nothing and turn it into something. That’s the challenge, and once you start making it into something and it starts taking shape, you’re going wow, this is turning into something I like, but then once you finish it, you take that and put it on stage, and then once you’ve just about burned out on that, then you go back to the beginning of the clay and start it all over again. So I think it’s the starting it all over again. I’m chomping on the bit to start working on the next record, but we still have the whole rest of the world to tour, but I’m so inspired to do it. It’s just a matter of not having the time right now, and we decided to take the whole rest of the year to tour, so there’s no way to do it, but, you know, that’s where the inspiration comes from. Whatever concept or whatever idea I come up with, that’s going to be the conceptual piece for the whole record. Once I get that, then I start digging in and finding, doing some research on whatever it is the topic is about. Appointment With Death was about death so I went every direction trying to find something that would enter into these songs that would inspire me to take a sentence full of stuff and turn it into the whole thing. PI: Which brings us to the next question, when can we expect the next LIZZY BORDEN album, and what’s the concept behind it? Lizzy Borden: I’m still working on that. I’ve been writing a lot lately, just trying to find that thing, cause you have to write a few songs before you can figure out what direction its going to be. For Appointment With Death we wanted to do a little piece of Queen merged with heavy guitars, you know, and that was our idea and that’s what we went for. And for this next one I’ve got a whole different production idea. As far as the actual imagery, I’m still working on that. PI: What are the best and worst things about being on tour? Lizzy Borden: The worst things are the long travel, because unless you’re in a private jet, and even that, it’s a little bit of work, but uh, it’s the long travel. I mean, this part is great, before the show, but we have to wake up early tomorrow and drive six hours and do the whole thing again, but it’s that six hours that’s the worst part, but we have a good time. We have a great chemistry in the band now, and we laugh all the way there. PI: How have things turned out in comparison to what you imagined back in ’83 when LIZZY BORDEN was formed? Lizzy Borden: Well, some of it came true even beyond my wildest dreams, playing big festivals. Playing all those big festivals is something you imagine when you’re in bed as a kid dreaming of playing in front of 50,000 people. I’ve done that on so many occasions, and I never think about that lightly. That’s a big dream to me. That’s the ultimate one. When you think about being a recording star, or whatever, you don’t picture yourself in the studio, you picture yourself in front of 50,000 people, so every time we play one of these big festivals, it’s just mind boggling how much power there is in that room or in that field or wherever you are at. So in some ways it’s done that and in other ways, I’m trying to fulfill the recording aspect of it where I have an album where I go that was the one. That was my Back in Black or that’s my Number of the Beast, or you know, that’s my British Steel. You know, I don’t think I’ve done that yet, but I think I’m getting close.
PI: Is there anyone you’ve wanted to meet, but haven’t yet? Lizzy Borden: Well, I’ve met a few of my big influences, the people that I looked up to, and it wasn’t what I thought it would be. I almost regretted meeting them, just because they were different that I thought they would be, and that changed it for me. Now I’m not so anxious to go meet people, but I have met some other people that I was a casual fan of that I became a bigger fan because they were so genuine or so cool. It goes back and forth, but some of those big names that I really liked, it was just kind of, you know, a little different than I thought it would be. PI: What does “hitting the jackpot” mean to you? Lizzy Borden: (Laughter) I don’t know. (More laughter) Hitting the jackpot, I mean, you know, it used to mean a platinum record, but those days are over for just about everybody, so no one even thinks in terms of that anymore. Um, for me at this moment in time, the jackpot would mean being on a major tour, as a support act or just being part of a package storming the country doing big numbers every night. That would be my favorite thing to happen. PI: Most bands of your genre have been met with some sort of controversy. Has LIZZY BORDEN ever dealt with it? Lizzy Borden: Before I got here there was some, but I don’t even want to tell you, the story might break any second. Yeah, we have nothing but controversy, everything that happens to us is just, so many things have happened to us that uh, just nothing but controversy half the time, and we’re an entertainment band. It’s about fun with us, but for some reason there’s always something going on. PI: What would you do for a Klondike bar? Lizzy Borden: (Laughter) I would scream hysterically for an hour and a half. The Breakdown w/ Bandi The Silo, Friday June 11th Metrix was a three-piece band that did a lot of Megadeth and Metallica songs. They had a lot of bass in the songs, and the vocalist has a great voice for metal. I hope they break out of covering songs and start doing some originals. The Echo Base contained a lot of non-traditional instruments such as a flute and saxophone. I would call their music style psychedelic jazz of sorts. There were no vocals present, which I think was this band’s downfall. The musicians were all talented, but to be more appealing to the crowd, I think they should add a singer. Lead Fly was full of surprises. They had a trumpet in the mix, and the guitarist and bass player would go back and forth on the vocals. They had some rap songs on the set list, and I’m not a big fan of rap but they pulled it off well. Seventh Corus had a cool light show while they played. The vocalist had good range, and the keyboards weren’t overdone so it added a nice touch to the sound. Lake June had a punk sound to them, and the high energy that goes along with punk. The tone of the singer’s voice fit the sound of the band perfectly. Midnight Decadence was the headlining band, and had the largest turnout of the night. In my opinion, rock and roll should be about fun, fun, and more fun. Midnight Decadence is definitely about fun. Their lyrics and playing style conveyed the message well. They had great crowd interaction, and it’s obvious that they love what they do. There were great guitar solos, which I felt many bands were lacking. Their vocalist handled the stage like a seasoned veteran, getting the crowd involved. They have a large following already, for many in the crowd were wearing Midnight Decadence T-shirts, and it’s easy to see why. I want to point out to all the bands that played; the turnout was small because it was graduation night for the schools in the area. It was just an unfortunate timing coincidence. You all did a great job.
