FOR GENETICS, GROWTH, AND CARCASS VALUE

7AN779 Connealy RESTORE is an exciting Calving Ease sire that offers exceptional phenotype, added muscle and dimension, and a balanced data set. If you study his data, you will find that he is the true definition of balance as he ranks in the top 25% or better for almost all the economically relevant traits and is over 100 for $M and 300 for $C. In addition to Calving Ease and elite Maternal Value, he also excels for REA and Marbling. He is a 5.9-frame bull out of a young Connealy Stronghold daughter who has ratioed well for Weaning and Yearling on her first calves. We are getting very favorable calf reports, as they are standing out for phenotype, while maintaining Calving Ease and excellent vigor at birth. RESTORE is just what cattlemen

are asking for, a Calving Ease bull that does not give up muscle shape and growth, while providing elite Maternal and Carcass value. He is the complete package.

7AN805 GAR POWERCAT is the newest addition to our line-up out of the Gardiner Angus program. He was Lot #1 and recordbreaking, high-selling bull on the 2024 GAR Spring Production Sale. Gardiners have been saving this name for a truly special bull and there is no doubt that POWERCAT is deserving. As expected from the GAR program, he is a breed leader for Marbling, REA, $B, and $C. However, he offers much more with great predictions for CE, RADG, Heifer Pregnancy, Docility, Claw, and Angle. He recorded impressive ratios of 126 for IMF and 108 for REA against stiff competition at GAR. His

outcross pedigree allows him to be used on HOME TOWN, TRANSCENDENT, FIREPROOF, Fireball, and Dual Force daughters. In addition, his top 1% ranking for Hair Shed can allow him to be used in many environments. He is one of the hottest young bulls in the Angus breed and is being used in many progressive herds across the country.

7AR112 PIE CADILLAC is one of the highlight Red Angus bulls of the 2024 sale season. He does so many things right, offering amazing phenotype, ideal feet and legs, and a performance-loaded data set. He is massive bodied with added muscle shape and ranks near the top of the breed for REA. His dam is a beautiful Franchise daughter with a picture-perfect udder and an excellent production record of 97 BW, 109 WW, 112 YW

on four calves giving her a 107 MPPA. His sire, Confidence G1410, one of the most soughtafter sires in the breed, is now deceased with limited semen available. CADILLAC is perfect for continuing his legacy. This bull is sure to be a breed changer with the chance to make an impact on the Red Angus breed.

7SM133 TJ GOLD STRIKE was Lot #1 and feature bull of the 2022 Triangle J Production Sale. His sire TJ Gold has been extremely popular, and we believe that GOLD STRIKE takes it to the next level. He is ¾ Simmental¼ Angus and is backed by a beautiful proven cow, TJ 52A, who is also the dam of TJ Chief. His dam, 52A, has impressive ratios for BW at 92 on seven calves and WW at 113 on seven calves. In addition, for his modest BW and excellent calf vigor, he excels for growth ranking in the top 15% of breed for both Weaning Weight and Yearling Weight. Indicated by his added muscle shape in phenotype, he also ranks in the top 5% of the breed for REA. He is homozygous-black, homozygous-polled,

and offers lots of mating flexibility that makes him a must-use sire in our Simmental line-up.

7SM140 LRS DUTTON was a feature lot in the Lassle Ranch Simmental Sale in Montana. This bull offers lots of genetic merit as he has 10 EPD traits that are in the top 10% of the breed. He is a purebred Simmental that is homozygous-black and homozygous-polled. This high Docility bull not only offers added growth, but also ranks near the top of the breed for all three carcass traits, including Marbling, REA, and Carcass Weight. He's a complete phenotype package as he offers added muscle shape with lots of depth of rib. His dam, who was on display at our National Beef Tour in Montana, is a beautiful-uddered cow with a WW ratio of 108. Her first seven sons averaged $16,500 with several going to purebred breeders. This bull offers a combination that will add pounds and value to your calf crop, while still making functional replacement females.

quality may determine calf livability and health for the rest of its life into the feedlot or breeding herd.

Calves are born with an immature immune system and a sterile digestive tract ready to be populated by both slow-growing beneficial microflora and fast-growing pathogens. Into the potentially deathcausing gap in the calf’s self-defense steps colostrum. Colostrum is a critical source of a range of antibodies or immunoglobulins (Ig), energy, amino acids, and importantly, growth factors for the digestive tract and body. Further, the calf’s digestive tract enables the absorption of important Ig in the first 6-12

and colostrum production is usually the last priority for nutrient allocation.

u Immune system status: Unresolved inflammation from disease, environment, stress, mycotoxins, and other factors suppress the immune system’s ability to respond to vaccinations and diverts nutrients from more useful purposes, such as preparing for calving and preparing the calf’s first meal: colostrum.

u Energy: Environmental conditions, the cow’s age, and inflammation status determine energy allocation, and then fetal development receives priority usage for energy-over-colostrum production.

decision for the cow-calf producer.

u Vitamins and antioxidants: Similar to minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants are critical for metabolism and immune support to enable colostrum production.

The calf’s first meal, colostrum, is a major determinant of calf survival and health, and may have lasting effects into feedlot performance or future retainment as a herd replacement. Simple management and nutritional decisions during the last pregnancy trimester impact colostrum quality and quantity and may be among the best ROI decisions for the cow-calf producer.

FOR IMPROVING BEEF-BREEDING PROGRAMS

CentralStar can support your herd's success with synchronization and calving-interval management. Achieving high-conception rates hinges on three factors: synch-protocol compliance, proper A.I. technique, and the use of highly fertile semen. Once cattle are settled through artificial insemination, a wide range of goals become achievable.

An area of growing potential is improving carcass traits within herds. Producing quality beef earns premiums, and there will always be demand for high-value finished cattle or feeder calves—offering an excellent opportunity to increase profit per head.

The first and easiest way to improve your program is by ensuring calves get off to a great start. Regardless of genetics, early care has a significant impact. I like giving every calf Tri-Start Jr.+ paste at birth; and, if a calf is slow to start, I feed a colostrum replacer or supplement and use a calf coat for extra warmth and protection.

When it comes to breeding, consider using A.I., especially on your heifers. Even with average animals, A.I. can deliver significant genetic improvement in a single generation, far beyond what you will get by purchasing a bull.

Don’t delay planning for your breeding program. Ideally, contact your CentralStar team 60 days in advance to confirm facilities are ready, schedules align, and synchronization protocols are in place.

As we look to rebuild the U.S. beef-cow herd and meet the increasing demand for high-qualitybeef products, we must strive to enhance the efficiencies of all beef-production enterprises. Profitability and efficiency in the cow-calf sector is heavily dependent on the reproductive efficiency of herds. One way to improve reproductive success in cow-calf operations is by using estrus synchronization in conjunction with A.I. Estrus synch programs can be as simple as one injection, or a series of products, each administered to help get the maximum number of animals pregnant early in the breeding season, resulting in more calves being older and heavier at the time of weaning.

7-day CO-Synch+CIDR® & Split-TAI

Perform first TAI 66 ± 2 hr after PG in estrous cows. Second TAI with GnRH only in non-estrous cows.

A successful estrus synchronization and A.I. program can allow you to calve over 50-60% of the herd in the first 15 days of the calving season. This allows you to manage those cows and calves as a more uniform group throughout the production-life cycle of those animals. Heifer calves resulting from the estrus synchronization and A.I. program that are born early in the calving season will make great potential-replacement females to bring back into the herd. They will be older and heavier at weaning and breeding time, which means more of them will be cycling and ready to breed early in their breeding season. Thus, you increase the likelihood that more of the heifers will become pregnant early and continue the cycle of becoming more productive females to retain in the herd.

7-day CO-Synch+CIDR® & Split-TAI

REPRODUCTION TOOLS

No matter which synch program you choose to use, accuracy and precision is key! Missing just a small percent of the animals at each treatment can result in a very large portion of the herd not being properly set up at the time of A.I. Likewise, the timing of each treatment and the resulting timed-A.I. (TAI) is equally important. Straying only a few hours from the prescribed time frames can result in large portions of the herd not being at a peak-fertility window, or even no longer fertile at all, by the time the animal is bred.
