2012-2013 PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCES

YOUNG for AUDIENCES

Dear Educators, Welcome to the 2012-2013 Norton Center STUDENT MATINEE SERIES. This season, we want to provide clear information about our K-12 student resources and how educators can best take advantage of these offerings. What has been selected for this season’s student matinee programs? Programs this season include a cross-section of dance, music and theatre to reach students from all ages in order to provide meaningful arts experiences for our young audiences. While educators are encouraged to carefully read about each program in this brochure, here’s a snapshot of what not to miss: • • • • • • •

One Dance Company • One Vocal Ensemble • Brilliant Collaborative Creativity French Literature Comes to Life • World-Renowned Classical Actors Three Star Wars Movies • One Actor • 70 Minutes Theatre Meets Mime • Masters of Movement Brass and String Chamber Ensembles • Reinterpreting Romeo and Juliet One Twenty-Something Quartet • Bluegrass, Roots, Classical and World Music Choral Music 2.0 • From Ancient to Contemporary Music

How do these programs help educators meet curriculum goals? The Norton Center provides a list of Kentucky State and National Standards that can be applied to each performance or program, thus ensuring a worthwhile, out-of-the-classroom experience for all. Are there activities the Norton Center can provide to help educators make classroom connections? Our Curriculum Connections provide educator-developed lesson plans which will help to extend the learning into the classroom before and after each event. Often, there are additional educational resources provided by the artists themselves that will also be made available to educators. The Norton Center Engagement Coordinator can also assist with ideas and planning in conjunction with the matinee programs. Where can these resources be found? By visiting the NortonCenter.com website, educators can find an Education link for Learning Opportunities and K-12 Activities. Located within these pages are the matinee programs, connections to State and National Teaching Standards, lesson plans and other information. The website also provides information, videos and press reviews about artists on individual performance pages under the 2012-13 Season link. How can educators be kept informed throughout the year? The Norton Center offers a special resource that is free for all educators. Sign up to receive emails and exclusive educator information by completing the Keep Informed section on our website and selecting the box Children / All Ages /Educational Shows. This form is located at NortonCenter.com/signup. Thank you for trusting the Norton Center to provide high quality professional programming to engage, entertain and educate our region’s youth while meeting your specific educational needs. We look forward to sharing another season of professional performances for young audiences with you! Thanks, Steve Hoffman

What to Do When You Arrive • Performances start promptly at their scheduled times. Please try to arrive at least twenty minutes prior to the performance. • A representative from the school should stop by the registration table to check in and receive further instructions. • After your group is assembled in the lobby, please wait for the ushers to escort you and your group to your assigned seats. Ushers are also available to direct you to the restrooms and any other necessary location.
