If you are unsure of your legal obligations or have been notified by a regulatory body that your current signage is not adequate, our team of experts are on hand to offer a Safety Signage Survey for your Premises.

Machinery / Equipment Safety Survey. According to hse.gov there are hundreds of machinery and industrial equipment accidents every year. Our surveys will review your lock out tag out process for when machinery is undergoing repair or maintenance and provide advice on the process and products required to ensure when your machinery is safely isolated during repair or routine maintenance.

3 simple questions to choosing the right safety sign:

1: Choose the correct sign type

Evaluate what message your sign is intended to convey and check this with the Safety Sign Symbol Guide below. Your sign should fit in one of the designated categories and will show you the colour and format needed for your sign. For example, “Wear ear protectors” is a mandatory sign as you are stating a safety procedure which must be adhered to, whereas “Danger Fragile roof” is a hazard warning indicating a potentially hazardous situation to be aware of.

Safety Sign Symbol Guide

Health and Safety signs can be broken down into the following categories, as specified by British and European standards.

Mandatory Signs

A blue circle containing a white image denoting that a specific course of action must be taken.

Prohibition Signs

A red circular band with a diagonal bar on a white background. The black symbol behind indicates the prohibited action.

2: Choose the correct material

Safe Condition

A green rectangle or square with a symbol or text in white providing information about first aid, escape or other safe conditions.

Hazard Warning Signs

A yellow triangle with a black border and symbol denoting a hazard in the environment.

Fire Equipment

A red rectangle or square with a symbol or text in white providing information about the location and use of fire fighting equipment.

Evaluate where the sign is to be placed when considering what material you need the sign to be manufactured from. We have various materials to choose from as detailed in our material key opposite, with the most common detailed below:

SAV (Self-adhesive vinyl) – For internal and external use. These signs can be adhered to clean, dry and dust free surface and provide an economical option for flat and gently curved surfaces. Suitable for low damage risk areas.

PHO / PHS Photoluminescent signs (glow in the dark) – Available in rigid board (PHO) or self-adhesive vinyl (PHS) options. Our photoluminescent signs are manufactured using P.S.P.A. Class B material which greatly exceeds the minimum required specifications in the UK. Once fully charged will glow for over 10 hours.

PP (1.2mm POLYPROPYLENE) – For internal and external use. These signs are extremely durable and can be mounted by drilling or gluing onto a flat surface (fixings not included). Suitable for medium damage risk areas.

SAPP (1.2mm SELF-ADHESIVE POLYPROPYLENE) – For internal and external use. Using the same durable plastic as PP, these signs come with a self-adhesive backing for quick easy fixing onto a flat, dry surface. The signs can also be drilled for extra security (fixings not included). Suitable for higher damage risk areas.

FPP (2.5mm FOAMED POLYPROPYLENE) – A versatile, lightweight rigid PVC foam sheet, durable and with low water absorption making it suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

3: What is the correct size for your location?

Signs need to be visible for all users, given the distances that they are typically viewed from. Use the viewing distances guide below to check the suggested viewing distances for the character heights and then select the appropriate size sign to match.

In the event of a fire or emergency, the visibility of standard emergency signs can often be impaired by poor lighting, smoke or even lack of power. In these cases our Photoluminescent signs can provide an effective solution.

• High intensity flexible Vinyl or 1.3mm rigid material options.

• P.S.P.A Class B material - brighter compared to the standard Class A product usually used in safety signs.

• Tested to DIN 67510 Part 1 - 4 for afterglow performance which exceeds international standard for flammability, smoke and toxicity.

UK fire extinguisher regulations state that you should have a minimum of two ‘Class A’ extinguishers on every storey of the building.

The ‘standard pair’ water-based and CO2 fire extinguishers are usually located by exits and fire alarm call-points. To comply with fire extinguisher regulations, extinguishers should be either fixed to the wall, or attached to a stand. Fire extinguishers must be commissioned on-site by a competent person. This generally means someone who has passed the BAFE fire extinguisher exam or has an equivalent qualification.

Fire extinguishers are not compliant with UK fire extinguisher legislation until they have been commissioned extinguisher regulations state that extinguishers must be serviced annually.

RIDDOR is the law that requires employers and those in control of work premises to report and keep records of:

• Work-related accidents which cause death.

The Workplace Regulations includes requirements for indicating traffic routes within workplaces where necessary for reasons of health and safety.

Part V of Schedule 1 of the Regulations requires the markings to take the form of continuous lines, preferably yellow or white, taking into account the colour of the ground. The AssetTag holder should be permanently fixed to the ladder in a suitable safe place.

Perform an inspection of the ladder (a checklist is printed on the reverse) and record the result on the tag. If the ladder fails the inspection remove insert and inform a supervisor.

LADDER TAGS

The Work at Height Regulations came into force in 2005. These regulations apply to work at height where there is a risk of fall liable to cause personal injury. This applies to both internal and external work at height, and includes below ground level and low height.

All ladders should be checked daily and prior to use for any damage, faults or wear and tear. In addition they should be inspected at deﬁned intervals as part of a risk assessment programme. Use these inserts to manage the safety and maintenance of ladders and help conform to the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

FORKLIFT SAFETY

An employer must ensure that a forklift is safe to use and all forklifts should be checked by a competent person prior to use for any damage, faults or wear.

On the reverse the Forklift Safety Tag lists the basic safety checks needed with an inspection record (date, signature, defects reported) on the front.

Designed for use with the AssetTag MAX holder which should be ﬁxed permanently at the point of access to the forklift. If the forklift is safe to use the insert can be slid into the holder with the signature side showing.

The holder clearly states ‘Do Not Use This Equipment’ when the tag is removed, should an inspection ﬁnd any failures.

Lockout is a physical method of isolating equipment to prevent it being re-energised or stop the release of any stored energy.

Tagout is a highly visible written warning attached to the locked out device highlighting that the equipment should not be used until the Lockout is removed.

Planned Lockout Tagout Procedures are an effective way of reducing the risks involved when maintaining, cleaning or repairing equipment. Now considered a best practice procedure worldwide, correct implementation can reduce downtime and increase productivity. It helps to ensure worker safety and reduces the risk of employers exposure to liability and prosecution, as well as indirect costs such as repairs to equipment.

A clearly designed LOTO programme will detail all the necessary steps to ensure equipment energy is safely isolated.

Types of Energy

Dangerous energy sources can take many forms, including:

Electrical Energy

Commonly found powering nearly all workplace equipment.

Hydraulic Energy

Found powering forklifts, cutting equipment and pumps.

Can be found in all machinery with moving parts.

Lockout the device by placing the main body over the top of the valve handle. Ensure the valve handle sits inside channel.

STEP 2

Move slider section down the shaft of the lockout until tight against the valve body.

Insert a padlock or hasp through the most appropriate hole which keeps the slider secure.

Comprising of two flattened half moons with a hollow centre. Hinged at one side, they are placed over the valve and then closed, ensuring that the valve wheel is tamper-proof.

EXTRA LARGE GATE VALVE LOCKOUT

Our largest sized Gate Valve Lockout is suitable for valve handles with a diameter of 330mm up to 450mm. It has an integral clip out centre and a built in facility to use up to 4 padlocks without the need for a hasp.

Our smallest MCB toggle is easy to usesimply place over the breaker and tighten the internal grub screw.

Once secure fit a padlock or appropriate hasp through the hole to prevent unauthorised removal.

MINI CIRCUIT BREAKERS

This universal MCB lockout has been designed to fit almost any size of MCB, regardless of size or the position of the holes on the breaker.

Our range of miniature circuit breaker (MCB) lockouts have been designed to fit most modern single and multiple pole miniature circuit breakers. The lockout prevents the circuit breaker toggle from being turned on, use appropriate padlock to prevent unauthorised removal.

Due to the size of these MCB lockouts, should you need to use a hasp to increase the number of padlocks we recommend the di-electric hasp (LOK053) or wire padlock (LOK185). All of the following MCB lockouts can be locked out using a single safety padlock with a maximum shackle diameter of 7mm.

Easily segregate waste in a warehouse with the use of our industrial grade aisle sacks. Designed to be attached to the end of racking aisles with stainless steel hooks (supplied).

Each sack is manufactured from industrial strength waterproof polyester, double-stitched for strength and durability. The sack incorporates a top flap with Velcro fixing strips, allowing the contents to be secured when full for transportation. The three handle straps incorporated into the sides and the bottom allow for easy relocation and emptying.
