LADDER SAFETY dos & dont’S LADDERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR NEARLY 40% OF ALL FALL FROM HEIGHT INVESTIGATIONS. IN 2019/20, 29 PEOPLE WERE FATALLY INJURED WHILE FALLING FROM HEIGHT. FALLS FROM HEIGHT ACCOUNTED FOR OVER 5000 OF ALL NON-FATAL WORKPLACE INJURIES, OFTEN RESULTING IN CATASTROPHIC AND LIFE-CHANGING DAMAGE.

DONT’S

As much work as possible from the ground.

Overload ladders.

Ensure equipment is regularly checked and maintained.

Carry loads on ladders.

Only use a ladder is a safe environment.

Overreach on ladders or stepladders.

Lean the ladder at approximately 75O from horizontal.

Rest ladders against weak upper surfaces.

Maintain 3 points of contact.

Have more than one person on the ladder at any time.

Use on a firm level base.

Use the top two steps.

Provide protection from falling objects.

Extend ladders whilst standing on them. Put ladders on uneven ground.
