Europe is often presented as a declining global power, in which red tape, incumbency interests and governance flaws hamper economic performance, innovation and productivity. In fact, Europe has done very well despite the wide array of America’s competitive advantages – and its ‘hidden treasures’ partially explain this anomaly. In the future, while cracks in the fabric of US society and the American approach to entrepreneurship may widen, Europe and its entrepreneurs can build on their strengths.
