Termine, opposto ad analisi, con il quale si disegna in generale ogni forma conoscitiva che, partendo da elementi singoli, giunga ad una conclusione unitaria: procedere dall’analisi alla sintesi. Propr, in Kant, ogni forma di unificazione del molteplice operata dalla coscienza: come per es. quella dell’immaginazione, che unisce immediatamente nella consapevolezza un complesso di dati empirici.
