KN OW? How do you know he is…the one? You may have been asked this question by your parents, your friends, even yourself. The answer isn’t always perfectly clear; he may or may not be ‘ideal’ on paper; you may have known him for only two months or perhaps you’ve been hanging in there a good five years; he may be a cowboy while you were visualizing a business man. The so-called ‘signs’ aren’t always there, but somehow…you just know. At Ceremony, we feel the same way about our Great List of vendors that we recommend. We take this vendor collective very seriously, which is why we don’t put arbitrary consideration requirements in an antiquated form. We don’t have a scholastic checklist to help us come up with an ‘A’ grade. We don’t even have a job application type form to fill out. You see, when it comes to choosing our Great List of recommended vendors, we believe there is no specific formula for choosing who we invite to join our family. Probably not unlike you, we take a look-see at Facebook, we inquire with their friends and colleagues and, most importantly, we get to know them by social networking the old-fashioned way (in person). In the end, we go with our gut. We just…know. You will find that some of these recommended vendors have refined their businesses over the past twenty years, while others bring fresh ideas after having recently started their own businesses. Many of our recommended venues are on the AAA Five-Diamond Resort list; others include charming private estates and everything in between. What they all have in common is that we have a mutual respect for each other; we each genuinely want to see the other succeed; we envision a future together. Do those relationship qualities sound familiar with someone you know? We hope that you will find this varied Great List vendor collective to be helpful in finding your wedding day professionals. There is no single vendor that is perfect for everyone, but there are vendors that are perfect for you. And when you meet them, you will just know.

LOVE ART PHOTOGRAPHY People and their relationships are at the heart of our work as we strive to capture their uniqueness and what makes them special. We want our clients to be “wowed” with oneof-a-kind modern art pieces with their lives as inspiration. Our style is contemporary urban imagery that results from a blend of modern photojournalism and lifestyle photography infused with our love of fashion and fine art. We are honored to participate in one of the most important occasions in a couple’s life. It is a day to be treasured and captured in the finest light, from the most creative and pleasing angles. We thank our clients for letting us tell their story.

PAUL BARNETT
Praised for her artistic eye and unique perspective, Jennifer has become one of the most sought after wedding photojournalists in San Diego and beyond. Her documentary-style wedding coverage captures emotionally charged, detail rich images that genuinely capture the spirit and ambiance of the wedding celebration. Jennifer is honored to have her images regularly featured in many wedding publications nationwide.
Paul Barnett’s work is evidence of his unobtrusiveness and spontaneous eye. His photographic intuition allows him to capture images that embrace the concept of both perspective and attitude. Based on a mandate to be truly reactive rather than proactive and a dedication to record events as a historian rather than a director, the final result is a collection of photographs, genuine and unrehearsed, that bring to life the small idiosyncrasies that define us as indiviuduals.

DAPPER IMAGES Yasmine and Deshun's passion and love for one another is what motivates them to create their beautiful art together. This husband-and-wife-team appreciates how their fashion background influences and fuses with their modern wedding photography. The international award-winning studio is recognized for imagery that evokes emotion, pops with intense color, and high contrast black and whites that look like they came from your favorite fashion magazine. Aiming to capture the unexpected, Deshun and Yasmine frequently travel the nation on wedding photography assignments (and espresso tasting adventures), telling the unique stories of couples and their families. dapperimages.com 760.809.1240

PAM SCOTT PHOTO With a background in graphic design and a lifelong passion for all things art, Pam discovered her talent for photography more than ten years ago, following the birth of her son. Known for her relaxed portrait style, artistic perspective, and attention to detail, Pam draws her inspiration from the couple’s connection. “I adore my couples, and their experience with me is as important as the photos. They trust me to be themselves, and that’s when the magic happens.”
BARNET PHOTOGRAPHY Wedding photography is our passion. We capture the chemistry and love of every bride and groom we photograph with a modern, elegant and impactful style. Our easygoing, unobtrusive approach makes the experience fun, allowing everyone to relax and have a great time. Weddings are about love, beauty and celebration; we photograph every cherished moment, and later work with our couples to create a beautiful wedding album that will be treasured for generations. Our devotion to detail and personal customer service limits the number of weddings we photograph each year. We feel honored to be a part of one of the most important days in a couple’s life. barnetphotography.com 800.608.8545

BE BEAUTIFUL
BEFORE the Big Day 4 WEEKS: Make it a habit to start drinking plenty of water, eating right and getting lots of sleep. Beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin and the best way to do that is staying healthy. Always wash your face before bed, moisturize and wear sunscreen.
By Cheryl Cowell, STUDIO BE shopstudiobe.com
You already are BEAUTIFUL! Follow these tips to BE even more stunning on the BIG DAY!
3 WEEKS: Facials and light exfoliation treatments will give your skin a healthy glow and there is still plenty of time for any healing that may be necessary post procedure.
DO trial runs for hair and makeup. Bring photos of what you like and discuss exactly what you are looking for. Try different styles and make sure you feel comfortable and confident with your beauty team.
2 WEEKS: Book an appointment for a hair cut/color and take care of facial waxing. You will still be hair-free and any possible trauma from the waxing should be healed. Don’t make any major changes in skin care or products until after your wedding.
DON’T try going for a look that you aren’t used to. Your makeup is definitely going to be a heavier version of what you normally wear, but shouldn’t be a drastic change. A clean, fresh-faced look is always timeless. DO use airbrush foundation, which has flawless coverage that looks as great in person as it does behind the camera. Plus it lasts all day and into the evening festivities.
SD13_page036_bebeautifularticle-gilmorejewelers.indd 2
STUDIO EMP
1 WEEK: Time to relax. No drastic changes. No waxing. No treatments. Stay hydrated and well rested. Follow basic skin care routines and make sure not to pick at any last minute blemishes, your Makeup Artist will be able to cover anything that pops up.

Former Girl Scouts and Shelley Long fans beware! This Troop Beverly Hills inspired bachelorette party is just as absolutely fabulous as the film itself. The bride-to-be channeled her favorite movie into a dream day, spent relaxing poolside with her best troop of gals at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Each “scout,” dressed in khaki and green, made their very own sashes with patches from their “leader” and nibbled on Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and personalized M&M’s. Clearly, this Troop took Beverly Hills by storm!

NRG
An Interview with NRG Music & Productions By Amy Harrick
Witness this vivacious band’s spectacular show, and you will instantly know that they are aptly named. But after meeting them in person, you will wonder if they weren’t named for another reason altogether. I met with Kymm and Andy, the founders of NRG Music and Productions, on a December afternoon at Encinita’s Pannikin Coffee & Tea to discuss music and weddings and the background behind this dynamic duo. Upon arrival, we stepped up to the counter where Andy requested anything made with eggnog. “He has to have his eggnog during the holidays,” Kymm remarked dotingly. He settled on tea, and with three large desserts in our hands, we found seats out on the patio. “Tell me your story. Your love story.” I began. And so the story goes. Andy is a quietly cool guy that grew up “in the sticks” of Ramona. On the contrary, Kymm’s upbringing took place in the bright lights of Las Vegas. And it shows. She has an aura about her that draws you in; she radiates positive energy that is almost mystifying. When talking to Kymm, she listens with every bone in her body; and when Kymm speaks, all eyes are on her, including Andy’s. When Kymm’s family moved from the city that never sleeps to the sleepy town of Ramona, she soon laid eyes on the young handsome high school boy and new immediately that he was the one. “I wrote
60
CEREMONYMAGAZINE.COM
SD13_page060_NRG.indd 60
about him in my journal every day,” recalls Kymm, “I knew I was going to marry him.” Just like they are today, she was a singer and he a piano player. When Kymm requested that they pair up for the annual talent show, Andy declined. “I wanted to win,” Andy explains as his reason for going solo. Ironically, Kymm won first place, but it would take her a year to finally win Andy’s heart. They soon formed a band and for their first real gig together, they were hired to play at an RV camp. They laugh about it today, but they have been making energetic music together ever since. They consider themselves lucky; to work together their entire careers, be married, and have a family together is not easy, but it’s all they know and they love and gracefully manage every second of it. Band Notes • Schedule your first dance for right after the grand entrance. This keeps the dancing go all night long, as your guests will not have to worry about being the first ones out on the dance floor. • Remember that a seasoned band is the conductor of the room once the wedding reception begins. While your wedding coordinator may be tending personally to you and your family or putting out fires, the show goes on. An experienced band knows how to compensate for any schedule variances. • Like many bands, NRG will supply a master sound list where you can highlight favorites and cross off others. They urge couples to keep in mind that the band should play for everyone, not only the couple’s personal favorites; trust an experienced band to do what they do! • Years of experience gives a band connections and capabilities to deliver under any circumstance, including lost, stolen or damaged equipment. NRG Music & Productions is a full service entertainment company providing sound and lighting, small bands to full ensembles, strings, ceremony music, an in-house DJ, and the newest trend in live entertainment, a fusion band where the authentic sound of computer tracks are mixed with live voice and instruments. nrgmusicandproductions.com

The newest trend in luxury venues: San Diego Beaches PHOTOGRAPHED BY TRUE PHOTOGRAPHY WEDDINGS
There is big news at the beach! You no longer have to go to Cabo, or some far away place, to have an amazing beach wedding. You can now relish in a gorgeous wedding right here, on our local sand. Enjoy cocktails on the beach and play music into the night! In March 2012, California State Beaches created a very special permit process that makes this all possible. Here are a few of the perks that the permit now brings: • Permission to serve alcohol at your event • Unobstructed views of California's coastline • Full-scale events on the sand, including tents • Areas perfect for all size groups, from twenty to three hundred • California State Parks - San Diego Coast District already has a list of exceptional preferred vendors, who are pre-approved, which simplifies your vendor selection • Permitted events may last through sunset and beyond!
They approached Aaron Feldman, founder of True Photography Weddings. With True Photography Weddings on board, an entire team of top San Diego vendors was assembled. The team now includes a preferred vendor for each category, including coordination, specialty linens and event design. “These venues are like having a destination wedding, except you’re minutes away,” said Feldman. “It feels like you transported your guests to Fiji or the Caribbean.” For those already in the know, the opportunity for on-beach weddings has already led to unique and memorable occasions, such as Shoshana and Brian’s wedding at South Ponto State Beach. At this wedding, the first since the new permit process was established, guests lounged in a private cabana created especially for the event, feasted on ultra-gourmet tacos, and delighted in the sunset from the comfort of the tented dance floor. Other highlights included the hosted bar on the sand, stylized lighting and elegant floral design. “There’s something magical about celebrating right on the beach with your closest friends,” said Tim Altbaum, whose company, Tim Altbaum Productions, is a preapproved Beach Event vendor. “It’s one thing to have a view of the ocean, quite another to kick off your shoes and dance in the sand.” In addition to South Ponto in Carlsbad, events can now be booked at Silver Strand State Beach, and more locations are coming soon. State Beach representatives have expressed plans to expand the program to at least five additional beach venues within the coming year, including the popular Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Each venue can also be booked for corporate events, as well as private social functions. “Right now, it feels like a secret that you can actually have your event right on the sand,” says Julia Miura, Special Events Coordinator for California State Parks, who oversees the venues. “But these locations are so breathtaking, I can’t imagine it will be a secret for long.”
Once the permit process was created, the next step for California State Beaches was to meet up with a wedding expert that could lend a hand.

For couples looking for a wedding venue, the process of booking a beach wedding is easy and straightforward. Details can be found at the official website for True Beach Events, which contains a list of approved vendors, as well as information about each venue. There are all-inclusive packages, which are completely customizable based on the services needed. The website even features a package estimator, so that wedding couples can receive an estimated budget recommendation in real-time. Visit www.truebeachevents.com to begin planning your beach wedding!

Lo Amo L’ Italia

atop of a mountain overlooking one of Italy’s famous lakes, in a cozy town or a large city, or even in a secluded site that many do not even realize exists. The city of Alba, in the Cuneo Province, boasts numerous castles and vineyards and delivers some of the most distinctive, highquality wine in Italy. Consider the Galleria degli Uffizi, the Palatine Gallery, the Galleria d’Arte Moderna or one of the seventy museums of Florence for an idyllic ceremony or reception venue. Venice is also attractive with its unparalleled character and classic, breathtaking towns. With these alternatives and others like Sorrento, Capri or Lakes Como, Garda and Maggiore, your options are infinite.
If you are considering a destination wedding, envision celebrating with friends and family in one of the many diverse regions of Italy. The most arduous part of your planning will be deciding between locations such as Verona, the home of Romeo and Juliet, or Venice, the setting of Casanova’s pursuits. A country of romance, passion and history, Italy will leave you questioning why everyone doesn’t get married here.
There are some important details that should be taken up before your travels. Italy, the home of the Roman Catholic Church, is the perfect location for a traditional religious ceremony but sometimes a Catholic wedding can be a challenge. Churches require both the bride and groom be baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith, that they complete marriage counseling and, should the bride or the groom have previously been married, churches require that at least five years pass before you remarry. To avoid such hurdles, couples may consider a civil ceremony where anything is possible.
cities such as Alassio in the Province Savona where the Italian shoreline far exceeds any expectations. Unwind by taking a drive along the coast and you can be in the French Riviera within a few hours, or simply take in the remarkable architecture and picturesque ocean views. Italy is much more than relaxing beaches and clandestine islands. Celebrate your marriage in a castle, on an ornate bridge, high

An Italian wedding offers unending options for venues and landscape. Venture past typical beach locations and discover
For either ceremony, you will need to obtain a marriage license while in the United States. Once you have your license, take it to the Italian Consulate nearest you and complete all necessary paperwork. Many couples also visit the American Consulate once they arrive in Italy to confirm they complied with all necessary conditions. To be on the safe side, as with many destination weddings outside of the United States, some couples prefer to get married at a local courthouse, and then travel to Italy for their dream ceremony and celebration with loved ones. Once you’ve taken care of the procedural issues, you can focus

on the fun part: styling your wedding! Hiring a coordinator who is well versed in the Italian culture will relieve much pressure, especially if you hire the right coordinator. Someone who knows the area, language and culture will help you easily navigate the country and its specific customs.
IMAGES PROVIDED BY BIANCA WEDDINGS
In addition to creating a unique and original wedding experience, the right coordinator can also fully immerse you in Italian style. Italy leads the world in fashion and design, and wedding trends are no exception. Classic Italian details include elaborate bouquets filled with seasonal flowers, distinct Italian shoe design, traditional veils and crocheted detail in everything from the wedding dress to the favors and hairpieces. However you choose to design your wedding, know that you cannot go wrong with any style that is you.
By choosing to celebrate your wedding in this country of passion and love, hospitality and culture, food, wine and fashion, you are building unforgettable memories. It’s important to be able to look back and love the wedding you created. You may have such an amazing experience that you will return again and again to renew your vows and celebrate anniversaries. Now that’s amore!

HOW CAN YOU CATER TO THE HEALTH CONSCIOUS, VEGAN, OR GLUTEN-FREE?
As the health movement continues to gain momentum, catering to guests with special dietary requirements is becoming easier and easier. Today it only takes a few modifications to serve the same menus. There is no longer a need to sacrifice flavor for health.
WHAT IS THE PERFECT PAIRING FOR A FOOD AND SPECIALTY COCKTAIL?
C’mon, we live in the nation’s beer capital! Why not do something unexpected and pair meals with beer cocktails? A perfect pairing is one that complements and doesn’t overpower flavors. The drink should expose new flavors in the dish and vice versa. DESCRIBE AN INNOVATIVE FOOD DISPLAY STATION TO WOW GUESTS?
We love the idea of guests interacting with their food. We’ve created the “spice tree” which is composed of glass orbs filled with varying spices or sauces suspended from a grape vine ‘tree;’ it is both aesthetically pleasing and fun. Also we’ve introduced the “cooking counter” which is a single station framing a chef who cooks course by course in front of your guests. PAM SCOTT PHOTO
LATE NIGHT MUNCHIES FOR THE RIDE HOME?
Sometimes things that have already been ‘tried and true’ are the best. This doesn’t mean that you’re stuck with the same, old boring milk and donuts or make-your-ownS’mores kit. Inject some personality into these classic and comforting items with out-of-the-box topping for donuts (maybe savory?) and a twist on ingredients for the S’mores (i.e. chili chocolate and spiced marshmallows). ADVICE TO COUPLES INFUSING ETHNIC FOOD INTO THE MENU?
An ethnic menu doesn’t have to be so exotic that your guests are afraid to sample it. A simple way to infuse a little ethnic flair is to utilize the spices or ingredients prevalent in whatever cuisine the couple is trying to recreate for an exotic flair on mainstream dishes. INTRIGUING WEDDING MENU ITEMS YOU CREATED THIS YEAR?
Can we interest anyone in buttered sriracha shrimp? Cherry-glazed pork roast with fennel and leeks? Braised carrots with lamb? Sautéed

Reheasal Dinner Haute Spot Kelvin at W San Diego
If you can stand the heat, get into Kelvin, San Diego’s hottest new upscale dining experience located within the W Hotel.
As the name implies, temperatures are sizzling with Latin-influenced cuisine by Executive Chef Kevin Harry in a contemporary cool setting, perfect for trendsetting foodie-enthusiasts. Igniting the scene, Kelvin will impress guests for an engagement party, rehearsal dinner, or just a great date night with your love. Their eclectic menu of locally sourced ingredients range from hot to cold palette tempters, like the compressed watermelon with blue cheese, cilantro and saba drizzle;
the rustic poblano corn soup with spiced popcorn; to the mojita spiked shrimp with grilled pineapple and avocado salsa. Your taste buds will salivate with intense flavors that savor all senses. Favorite sharing plates include the ever-so-popular duck confit quesadilla (secret ingredient – BRIE cheese) and peppered bacon wrapped jalapenos. The delish dishes don’t stop there with excellent entrees like the grilled pork chop served with jalapeno apple sauce, brussel sprouts with bacon and goat cheese bread pudding; and the scallop sliders with spicy mango jicama slaw and sweet potato fries. Cool down with a crafted cocktail confection, created by award-winning mixologist Charlotte Voisey. These signature drinks are quite intense like the ginger, blackberry and chili margarita to the ‘paloma verde’ made of Milagro Silver, St. Germain, fresh lime juice, cucumber, mint and a grapefruit salt rim. For parties going for the ‘share’ enjoy a perfect pitcher of the Thai basil sangria or cinnamon mule. You’ll definitely be in the haute seat at Kelvin, with impeccable customer service and a killer vibe, thoughts of going anywhere else will surely go up in flames.

FLOWERS & DÉCOR
I'll stop loving you when diamonds never sparkle and flowers cease to grow, when thunder doesn’t echo and rivers don't flow. When hearts no longer wonder and hands are never held, when smiles are only memories and hope is never felt. When trees no longer blossom and the stars refuse to shine, when autumn has no falling leaves and winter no longer dies. When time has no more tomorrows when rainbows have no color, and when the world itself stops turning, then and only then, I'll stop loving you. ~ “I'll Never Stop Loving You” Lyrics, Anasasis

ou have a creative spirit. We all do, it’s part of our being. But when it comes to finding your voice to create the day of your dreams, it can be quite a daunting task. Just ask event designer LaVonne Crawford, who has worked with hundreds of brides, many of whom walk into her studio and have no idea where to begin or what they want. All it takes is a little inspiration to figure it out. “Your wedding should be a reflection of you, rooted in your passions and personality and crafted to be a thoughtful expression of your individuality,” says LaVonne, whose background in design and psychology has certainly helped nurture her business from styling romantic thresholds to a full-service event and floral design company. As the

owner and creative director of Adorations Botanical Artistry, LaVonne is not only an artist, but a mentor and educator who believes that the pace of everyday life has disconnected us from knowing ourselves. Outside influences are constantly clouding our thoughts and when you don’t feel comfortable or confident, there is an expectation of what you should like. Remember, it is your wedding and you have the power to make it everything that you’ve always imagined it can be. So how do you will all the elements together to create a timeless day you’ll look back on in 20 years and want to do all over again? The goal is to find yourself before you start the design process. There is a goddess within you --you may just have to do a little soul searching to find her.
Kym & Danny’s Wedding Photographed by Paul Barnett | barnettphoto.com Coordination by Wynn Austin Event & Floral Design by LaVonne Crawford, Adorations Botanical Artistry | adorations.com
Kym and Danny went together as a couple to visit LaVonne for their design consultation. They were immediately inspired by their visual surroundings at Adorations’s studio and were drawn to a glavanized bathtub within the space. They both had an appreciation for craftsmanship, aesthetics and originality. By connecting with LaVonne and opening up about what was important to them, their décor became the setting for their magical day!
PERSONALIZED TOUCH
Kym’s bouquet consisted of ten plum calla lilies, but she asked for one additional calla lily to be pressed and preserved since Danny’s favorite number was eleven. This preserved lily would be a part of their “love chest” which they will open on their 10th anniversary.
BOLD STATEMENTS
Event designers know what is best to do within a given space. This is why you hired them. You want to impact the setting and make a WOW! statement without going overboard. Volume does not mean it will be beautiful. It’s all in the styling.
TEXTURIZED DECOR
Florals have several layers of texture that can be added or subtracted to create a stunning effect.
TIMELESS TRENDS Before you meet with wedding vendors, look inward, so you can best express what you want your big day to be!
Your wedding is truly about commitment and longevity. Keeping your décor and styling timeless, but still uniquely you, will assure your fond memories last a lifetime.
1. Have a date with yourself.
When was the last time you spent some time alone and just enjoyed what you love? This can jump start the inspiration process and bring you closer to finding what’s important to you.
2. Pinpoint your three adjectives.
What are those three words that make you feel the safest and best describe YOU?
3. Reflect on a day in your life.
Where do you shop? What art hangs on your walls? What do you do all day? Your everyday life is a great reflection of you.
4. Find your special place.
What atmosphere suits you best? Are you a party girl, prefer nature? Are you sacred or spiritual? You will be creating a space for not only you but also for your guests. Consider the place for your retreat.

5. Include the groom.
After all, this is a marriage between two people, a union of identities. Make sure you bring him to the design meetings and throughout the process you’ll learn about each other. Figuring out how you will decorate your home together can help pull an equal influence of both bride and groom into the special day.
6. Determine the color palette.
There’s a rainbow out there, but just look at your personality and what hangs in your closet. Are you bold and vivacious or more shy and subdued? Do you wear red all the time or pastels? Your designer can use your favorite color to play with hues within that palette to balance the décor.
7. Explore your alter-ego.
Don’t be afraid of her. There is nothing wrong with exploring that side of yourself that you never get to express. Perhaps that’s what your dream day should reflect.
8. Consider the value of the numbers game.
It’s inevitable that you must consider the budget. Look at your own values, which should be a compass throughout the process. Define what you want your wedding to be about. What is important to you certainly impacts where you should be spending. What percentage is the wedding décor? Keep in mind that flowers a hard cost. It takes money to care for them before they even make it into your arrangements. Additionally, figure that 25% of your budget for décor is allocated to the installation alone.
9. Trust your instincts.
You know what you like and dislike. But just in case, bring the person who knows you best and won’t be afraid to call you out if you say you want sunflowers in your décor but you’ve never picked one up in your entire life.
10. Stop and smell the roses.
There’s no reason to rush through the planning and design process. Go at your own pace. Take your time. You’ve waited this long to tie the knot, don’t feel the need to make every decision all at once! Enjoy those details that are part of YOU!

invitation conversation AN INTERVIEW WITH JORI JACKMAN, SEASIDE PAPERY
CM: How can a bride differentiate between the types of invitations she has the power to create? JJ: The printing process dictates the desired look and aesthetic of the stationery. If the bride wants a soft, romantic, vintage feel, then letterpress or offset printing will achieve that. If a more modern, bold and contemporary style is desired, thermography and engraving can lend itself to a very distinctive look with the way that the ink prints on the paper. Fonts, ink colors, use of design and embellishments also can be used to achieve a desired look. CM: What are the custom invitation services that you offer? JJ: From save-the-dates to day-of items, we offer a variety of en suite wedding stationery vendors at different price points, as well as many printing processes, in-house design, custom illustrations, monogram design services and assembly. We guide the client through the font selections, ink colors, design elements and help with wording for all necessary pieces. CM: With such a range in paper stock and printing possibilities, how can a couple be best informed to make their choice? JJ: The most informed couple is the best client. Each printing process has its beauty and limitations, so it will dictate the paper used, ink colors and overall tone of the finished stationery. A visit to our shop to touch and feel the samples helps in understanding why certain invitations cost what they do. CM: How can you embellish an invitation to make it unique to the couple while maintaining a luxury feel? JJ: Custom artwork that reflects a personal detail about the couple can add a dimension to the stationery that is unique. This year, foil stamping has a strong presence in the printing world. When done right, the elegance and sophistication can make a wonderful statement. CM: Is there “etiquette” when creating the verbiage on your invitation? JJ: Yes. The wording for invitations depends on whether the couple, the parents of the bride, or both sets of parents are going to financially contribute to the wedding. Religion and where the wedding will take place also dictate the verbiage. If the bride
178

and groom are in the military then their title should be included with their names. Ladies’ names always go first in the wording, and date, time and place are always included. If the ceremony and reception are taking place at different locations, an additional insert or reception card is included. A reply set (RSVP card and return envelope) is also part of the stationery suite. CM: What are the top font styles for 2013? What do you think of the creation of personalized “handwriting” fonts? JJ: Exclusive calligraphy fonts are very popular and are a nod to the old world, but can be very modern at the same time. Classic fonts such as same size caps or standard upper/lower case are always a mainstay. We love the popularity of “handwritten” fonts. It adds the touch of a handmade look to your stationery without it looking too homespun, yet still maintaining a sophisticated feel. CM: Do you suggest all paper goods match? JJ: No. Within the suite, it is nice to carry parts of the design elements from the invitation through to the day-of pieces so that they all complement each other but are not identical and repetitive. CM: The invitation is the first impression your guests have on the wedding. What is your best advice to create this lasting impression? JJ: The stationery should reflect the uniqueness of the couple. We encourage them to pick what they are most excited about. The invitation sets the tone for the event, so if the couple wants to focus on the venue, or their personalities, or their culture this can all be presented in the invitation.

Their meeting was a casual coffee shop conversation, but the proposal was magical. Brian and Catherine took a trip to Paris and Brian asked her to marry him at midnight on the Pont Neuf with the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the distance. Their wedding was completely unique and designed by Catherine, the owner of CBS Lifestylist.
Brian and Catherine chose what
they adore most about weddings and cut out all the rest knowing that whatever they chose, friends and family would be surrounding them.

It was never a secret that Hannah and Zach would eventually get married, but Zach did his best to keep the proposal a surprise. He let Hannah believe that it was just another Christmas morning and when it came time to open presents he gave her many boxes that did not contain an engagement ring. When it finally came to the last box, Hannah took her time opening it and finally saw her beautiful gift. She was so happy that she couldn’t even let Zach finish asking her to marry him before she told him yes.

Their love for horses brought Francie and Ali together while both were competing at an equestrian event nine years ago. In September 2011, Ali asked Francie to join him for a walk on the beach and they came upon a white sheet with roses and champagne. Francie was thrilled when she saw Ali get down on one knee and was even more surprised when she saw friends and family running down the beach toward them. The wedding
ceremony took place in the middle of a bank of trees and boulders.

When Graham proposed in New York City in front of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, Summer already knew what she wanted for her wedding day.
She followed her intuition, had
fun with the planning and remembered to never take herself too seriously.
The best decision
they made was to keep with tradition and not see each other before the ceremony.
This
tradition made the moment where they saw each other for the first time more than memorable.

LOVE STORY
Brandon and Brianna have known each other since they were thirteen years old and have been sweethearts since they were in the eighth grade. It wasn’t a surprise that Brandon knew Brianna’s ideal proposal so he got down on one knee in front of Brianna’s favorite Disneyland castle and asked her to be his wife.
