hOw do yOu know? How do you know he is…the one? You may have been asked this question by your parents, your friends, even yourself. The answer isn’t always perfectly clear; he may or may not be ‘ideal’ on paper; you may have known him for only two months or perhaps you’ve been hanging in there a good five years; he may be a cowboy while you were visualizing a business man. The so-called ‘signs’ aren’t always there, but somehow, you just know. At Ceremony, we feel the same way about our Great List of vendors that we recommend. We take this vendor collective very seriously, which is why we don’t put arbitrary consideration requirements in an antiquated form. We don’t have a scholastic checklist to help us come up with an ‘A’ grade. We don’t even have a job application type form to fill out. You see, when it comes to choosing our Great List of recommended vendors, we believe there is no specific formula for choosing who we invite to join our family. Probably not unlike you, we take a look-see at Facebook, we inquire with their friends and colleagues and, most importantly, we get to know them by social networking the old-fashioned way (in person). In the end, we go with our gut. We just…know. You will find that some of these recommended vendors have refined their businesses over the past twenty years, while others bring fresh ideas after having recently started their own businesses. Many of our recommended venues are on the AAA Five-Diamond Resort list; others include charming private estates and everything in between. What they all have in common is that we have a mutual respect for each other; we each genuinely want to see the other succeed; we envision a future together. Do those relationship qualities sound familiar with someone you know? We hope that you will find this varied Great List vendor collective to be helpful in finding your wedding day professionals. Create an inspiration board to help keep everyone on the same page. Narrow down your color choice; be specific; and choose a pantone color. Then, bring that color to all of your vendors. If all of your vendors are seeing the same inspiration boards and pantone colors, your design will come together flawlessly. Be Creative Whatever you are dreaming, it can happen! Do something different, think outside of the box, and make sure that every detail has you in it. Every detail from place cards to shoes should reflect the couple, theme and style of the wedding. Take the time to search online and look through wedding magazines -- there are a ton of options out there. Keep your eyes and mind open and you will be surprised how many new ideas you can come up with. Have fun and take chances, this is your day! Let your creativity shine! Hire a Wedding Designer Your wedding designer will help you create the atmosphere for your wedding. They will work with you on colors, décor, flowers, rentals, and other personal touches that will tell your story through the design. If you are inspired by where you met or by your favorite colors, your designer will weave that into a cohesive look and feel. It is your wedding designer’s job to create something unique and different that your guests will talk about for years to come. Many brides are using Pinterest for inspiration and ideas. While being a wonderful tool, it can’t give you a cohesive look that is unique to you. Having a wedding designer will ensure that you have a beautifully styled event beyond your imagination. Stay Organized There is a lot to keep track of for your special day and being organized makes all the difference. Create a binder and keep everything in there: receipts, inspiration boards, contracts, etc. Having everything organized will reduce stress and you’ll know exactly where to go to find what you need when you need it! Also, create a checklist! Having a list of everything you need to accomplish will help you feel on top of things and quickly see what needs to be done. Plus, there’s nothing like crossing things off the list as you go and seeing all of the progress you’ve made!

Enjoy Your Day: From Beginning to End “Keep Calm and Carry On.” Don't let the wedding get the best of you, don't get stressed out over the little details, and ENJOY the planning process. A big trick to this is to hire vendors you trust! If you trust your vendors, on your wedding day you can sit back, relax and enjoy every moment of your special day. The moment you share a raw sensory experience with someone, you leave a lasting impression. This memory is what inspires Adrianne Smith to create genuine and organically driven floral décor for weddings and special events. As a country girl at heart, Adrianne grew up rolling around in haystacks, picking fresh citrus from trees, and watching the sunset cast a pink hue over the horizon. Her love for the great outdoors and nature’s true beauty fuels her craft for designing environments of real authenticity; and a background in studio art and interior design qualifies her to do so. Opening up her own oasis, a 1940s California ranch-styled hacienda, styled for a casual fall festivity, Adrianne shared with Ceremony her design philosophies on how to best achieve a sensual atmosphere. You remember the smell of rosemary, the way a rose petal feels, the taste of ethnic cuisine; imagine merging all of the senses into one cohesive wedding scheme for a night you and your guests will never forget. The Sense of Sight: Visualize the Space Consider Your Venue “You must be smitten with your environment,” says Adrianne. “If the space does not speak to you personally, forget trying to transform it into something it’s not.” Outdoor spaces can be easily inspired by their natural surroundings, where as an indoor venue has key factors to consider, such as the architecture, carpeting (like many ballrooms), wall color, lighting and history. Work with the existing design and not against it. This can help keep your decor costs low and aid in creating a genuine theme. The Color Palette The Color Palette Don’t get too carried away with a color scheme. If you’ve selected a dominant color (often times your favorite) narrow

down the palette by picking your top three wedding inspiration images. This will usually balance out your final shades. Consider the look of the venue and make sure that your colors will enhance the natural design of the space. Dressing the Table Always start with a fabulous linen. Like in fashion, the linen is the foundation that dresses the entire table design and can inspire the overall décor. Incorporating a dynamic floor plan with a mix of table sizes and shapes will visually create interest without seeming repetitive. The Sense of Touch: Texturize your Décor Texture means tactual, the sense of touch. Make a statement by including one common denominator or specific texture into your design, like a rose or foliage, to pull the scheme together. Flowers rich in texture have multi-layers of depth and shape, and varying the size of centerpieces (based on the table proportions) will also add dimension to your space. Paper goods like invitations, menus and escort cards offer another element of design that is physically felt and can bring your full décor concept to completion. The Sense of Smell: Seasonal & Local Flowers You’ve heard the saying, stop and smell the roses. The flowers you incorporate into your ceremony site, arrangements and bouquet will radiate a fragrance that you will remember for days to come. Flowers are seasonal and can be much more expensive when desired in their off months. Using local growers can also help reduce the cost, and are more eco-friendly in today’s sustainable environment. The Sense of Taste: Food Pairings Food is most certainly part of the design. From the stylized dessert table spreads to plating aesthetics, the cuisine at your wedding should be personal and may tie your entire theme together. Utilizing seasonal fruits and veggies like apples, pomegranates, pumpkins, and gourds can be an unexpected element in your arrangements and tabletop décor. Try utilizing herbs like sage, basil, lavender, oregano, and rosemary into your floral centerpieces for a lively aroma. The Sense of Sound: Musical Notes What is the overall vibe you are hoping to achieve? Authentic music creates the ambiance in your environment and for today’s bride, anything goes. Set the stage and incorporate your favorite musicians, band, or DJ stylings as part of your wedding day experience.

Self-expression comes naturally to artists. At their core is a creative fire that is released into every piece of their work. For me, the sparks first start to fly when I meet the young couple in love. Discovering who they are as individuals and what inspires them begins our quest to express their story. It becomes a collaboration between all parties: bride and groom-to-be and their ingenious team of vendors. When a wedding coordinator comes prepared with their client’s vision, married with an artist’s creative process, magic starts to happen. And since the marriage celebration is a thoughtful reflection of these two unique personalities unifying into one complete partnership, the design must be just as magnificent. Angela and Alex are a vivacious couple, full of life, and effervescent in every possible way. They had chosen a seaside location for their special day and the bride wanted to incorporate the color aqua into their décor. From that single shade of blue evolved a dramatic design interpretation that included a lush floral installation, architecturally crafted like a chandelier, dripping in orange tulips, white phalaenopsis orchids and aqua spheres filled with candles. This dynamic showpiece set the stage for their colorful love story, and not only became a shared expression of the couple, but of us, the designers, artists and creatives who brought the vision to life.

HOW TO PREPARE Once you’ve found a boudoir photographer that you feel comfortable with, now it’s time to start planning your shoot. Most brides choose to have at least three different outfits and studio sets to add variety and impact to their album. It is important to plan out your outfits and acces sories, so use this as an excuse to go on a lingerie shopping spree! We recommend getting one outfit that is on the sweet and cute side, and one outfit that is more ‘va-va-voom’ sexy. You will also want to bring accessories that are meaningful for the wedding day, like your wedding or honeymoon lingerie, a veil, garter or wedding day shoes. GETTING ALL GLAMMED UP The boudoir shoot is all about feeling beautiful, so what better way to begin than with a glamorous hair and makeup session! “Not only does it open your eyes to a side of your beauty you may have never seen but it also gives you a glimpse into what every supermodel undergoes before each magazine cover shoot,” explains hair and makeup artist Peggy Busch. IN FRONT OF THE LENS You may feel a little nervous or afraid that you m i g h t n o t k n o w e xa c t l y w h a t t o d o t o ‘ l o o k s e x y . ’ That’s ok! (And Typical.) THE TOUR OF LOVE By Jennifer Dery, Jennifer Dery Photography jenniferdery.com

As soon as you set your wedding date and start sending out invitations, there is one question you will get asked more than any other – and it won’t have anything to do with your color scheme or the selection of entrées at your reception. No, what people will really want to know now is where you plan on honeymooning. Everyone loves asking this question because it gives them just a moment to live vicariously through you. As exciting as it is though, choosing the perfect honeymoon location takes just as much thought as picking a venue and finding the right dress. As a wedding photographer I have taken pictures all over the world; from Japan to Jamaica, and everywhere in-between, I have captured images of the Big Day. That, combined with my own personal lust for seeing the world, makes helping people select their honeymoon destination as just about one of my favorite things to do. When you start discussing where to go for your honeymoon, there are a few questions you should consider first. Have the two of you ever traveled together before, and if so, were there any challenges? Has at least one of you traveled outside the country in the past? Do you prefer vacations where you can relax on the beach, or ones where you can stir up some adventure? And how long do you want to be gone? Answering these questions as a couple can help you to get a better idea of what you are both envisioning when it comes to your honeymoon. Your individual comfort levels really can dictate things like whether you should get a travel agent, book an all-inclusive resort, or just plan on back-packing with one-way tickets wherever you feel compelled to go. Remember that people often have different travel styles. While you may be able to pick up and go with the flow, your fiancé may be a planner who tends to stress when things don’t go according to his itinerary. The dilemma is that your honeymoon should be about the two of you; a trip where you both enjoy yourselves equally and have a great time sharing this trip as a team. Which brings us back to those questions – use your answers to help you formulate a list of destinations that are sure to meet both of your travel desires. View the selection process from there in a similar fashion to choosing your venue. Weigh all the little details (such as cost and amenities) in order to pick the best possible fit. Some of my favorite locations include: {

Kyoto, Japan: Hire a personal tour guide to show you the city, temples and street food.

{

Kauai, Hawaii: Rent scooters, go kayaking and seek out hidden beaches.

{

Ireland: Sign up for a driving tour and take part in a pub crawl.

{

Florence, Italy: Live in the city for a month if you can. It’s magical and you will have no regrets.

Obviously not everyone wants to travel outside the continental United States for their honeymoon. If you were hoping to stay closer to home, consider heading to San Francisco, New York or Chicago. These big cities all have plenty to offer, including amazing food, incredible museums, and enough shopping to keep you entertained for days. The most important goal is to find a destination you each can get excited about. Once you’ve done that, the tour of love can begin!

LOVE STORY Aaron planned to propose in a hot air balloon, but after the flight was cancelled for bad weather, he ended up proposing in the back of the shuttle instead. After a second cancellation, Diana and Aaron eventually took flight on their third attempt and Aaron proposed again before changing winds forced a rapid descent. To slow down, the pilot brushed the balloon against a large eucalyptus tree then gave Diana and Aaron last-second instructions to brace themselves. LOVE STORY Thanksgiving morning, Kristin was a little grumpy - she thought Dan was acting weird and she didn't like the shirt he was wearing. LOVE STORY Nakiya met Will while on duty working for the Sheriff’s Department and became used to one of them having to work holidays. So, on Christmas Day, Will met Nakiya at the door when she came home from work, told her to change and meet him downstairs. They enjoyed Christmas dinner together with Will’s mom and opened presents under the tree. Will’s last present to Nakiya was another charm for her bracelet to mark one of the biggest days of their lives – their engagement.
