When we created and introduced the inaugural edition of Ceremony Magazine 12 years ago, we did so with two mantras in mind: weddings are visual, so photography is key; and collaborate with the highest quality vendors and the magazine will follow suit. Those principles still reign true today. Ceremony Magazine has always been big on pictures and short on words, and it seems social media is emulating the same. With the likes of Pinterest and Instagram becoming the go-to social media sites, the whole world can now communicate in a language that has no barriers: pictures. Now more than ever, it’s the perfect complementary platform to view the best-of-the-best of Ceremony’s thousands of timeless inspirational wedding and photo shoot images. We hope you will follow us and find inspiration for your own wedding. While we revel in the limitless amount of ideas we can digitally find, we know that the most beautiful image is no substitute for finding quality vendors who can execute your vision. That is why we indulge in the pure Wedding IngenuityTM from Ceremony’s own family of wedding professionals that are right here in San Diego and Temecula Wine Country. This Great List of wedding vendors contains not only many of the best in the San Diego and Temecula areas, but also some of the finest in the country. It is their work that makes up a large part of this magazine, including 35 real weddings in this issue alone. Throughout the entire magazine, their web addresses are listed alongside their work as a helpful tool when you are flipping through Ceremony Magazine online. We are excited for what we know you are about to experience: meeting, collaborating with and perhaps even befriending some of the most creatively talented people you will ever know. As you travel along your wedding planning journey, preparing for life’s wondrous path of marriage and love, we encourage you to put extra special thought into the most significant aspect of the wedding celebration — the

The Boudoir Divas
Paul Barnett Photography
Rosanna Hanson Photography
The Boudoir Divas studio is the premier boudoir photography studio in Southern California, specializing in making women feel gorgeous! We are so blessed to be able to photograph women and show them that they are just as hot as any model in a magazine. Our adorable San Diego studio is home to an all-female staff and includes gorgeous exclusives sets and your own dressing room complete with outfits, accessories and shoes. We will coach you through every bit of the process, from outfit selection to posing and expression. The session is completely private and for 'his eyes only.' We believe that every woman was created uniquely beautiful and we want to celebrate who you are right now!
Paul Barnett’s work is evidence of his unobtrusiveness and spontaneous eye. His photographic intuition allows him to capture images that embrace the concept of both perspective and attitude. Based on a mandate to be truly reactive rather than proactive and a dedication to record events as a historian rather than a director, the final result is a collection of photographs, genuine and unrehearsed, that bring to life the small idiosyncrasies that define us as individuals.
Rosanna holds an incredible passion for life, love, laughter and documenting the emotional moments that add meaning to our lives. Rosanna attended l’Istituto d’Arte in Bari, Italy and Academy of Art University of San Francisco. Being raised in both the US and Italy gives Rosanna a European influence to her work that categorizes her style as artistic, romantic, fun with a touch of sexy. Her approach is natural and relationship-oriented. “We love to get to know our clients long before putting them in front of our lens.” RHP strives to create images that will be cherished for generations through high quality products that are creative and unique; books made in Italy, prints on wood, burlap, acrylic and more to showcase her work as art pieces in your home.

Sadi is a hopeless romantic at heart, and that romance has blossomed into a love affair with photography. You can feel in her images the emotion of every moment captured. Her focus throughout the day is to document every last detail, combining both posed and candid moments for a complete memento of the day. Brides and grooms are always taken aback at the feelings captured in her still imagery. She maintains a specialized company geared towards providing high end whimsical wedding photography and videography. The Whimsie team has been praised time and again for their customer service, professionalism and high end wedding products. The passion behind the photographs stands out above others and brings the wedding day to life.

Kristina Chartier Photography
Blessed Wedding Photography is a team of experienced and talented photographers throughout southern California specializing in wedding, engagement and boudoir photography. It is our goal to bless our clients by giving them the full service experience and including hair, makeup and video as part of our collections. We not only want you to feel and look beautiful, but also know we care about your special day as much as you do. It is our desire to build a relationship, earning your trust as your photographers. We would love to meet you and schedule an appointment for you to stop by our studio.
Wayne and Angela are a husbandand-wife team that celebrate love, fashion, and storytelling through photography and design. Since 2007, their award-winning images have captivated people all over the world. Like many couples, they are very different people—but together they are bold and delicate, big picture and fine detail, edgy and romantic, raw and refined. And best of all, they are in love.
Jim’s passion for weddings is evident in your first meeting with him. Brides love his relaxed style and easy going personality. Building a relationship with his couples prior to the wedding day is very important to him; he feels this is the key in capturing the personalities of the couple on their wedding day. Jim’s goal: to provide the images that will help relive all of the special moments and emotion that make up the wedding day for years to come. Jim takes pride in the fact that most of his business is based on referrals from brides, wedding coordinators and venue managers.
I find it incredibly rewarding to create beautiful images that will bring back the fleeting moments expressed on every wedding day. Sure, I’ll capture your gorgeous decor and we’ll pose a few important family portraits. But with the experience of photographing more than 500 weddings comes the ability and sensitivity to create the most gorgeous images of the bride and groom by finding perfect light and anticipating the emotional moments. When I began unobtrusively capturing these details that thrilled brides 14 years ago, photography quickly became my full-time career. And ever since I married the love of my life in 2008 and have been blessed with two incredible daughters, I have become even more passionate about love, family and photography.

Our goal is to capture the beauty and grace of the day. Our easy going, unobtrusive approach makes the experience fun, allowing you and your guests to enjoy the day. We will capture every cherished moment throughout the day from the minor details to the big moments. All our packages include high res edited images with print release and our collections include beautiful handcrafted heirloom keepsake albums for you to share for generations to come. Our devotion to our clients and customer service limits the number of weddings we photograph every year. We are truly honored to be able to document one of the most important days in our clients lives. Step into Elle and you will find yourself in a fairy tale come true with an array of dresses that are made just for you. Elle is a chic boutique, offering the newest styles and designs hand selected off of the New York runway. These styles, all fashionable and elegant, are made with the latest trends in mind. Elle brings you designers from around the world. Amsale from New York, Anais Anette based in Canada, Pronovias in Barcelona, Spain, Karen Willis Holmes based in Australia, Leanne Marshall also in New York, and now two new international designers to San Diego, Yolan Cris and Catherine Dean. Their dresses, so equally stunning yet so different in style, will be sure to offer you the perfect selection to find the one that reflects your personality for your special day. Yolan Cris brings boho folk, romantic lace, and orchid couture with their new 2016 Orchid collection. Founded by two sisters in Barcelona, Yolanda and Cristina, Yolan Cris is a vivid collection of textures and patterns. Their dresses are made with the techniques their mother taught them back when they were little girls. Yolan Cris continues to modernize their styles, while still remaining true to their Barcelona techniques. Elle will sure spice things up in San Diego with the colorful energy that these Barcelona sisters bring to the bridal fashion world. Elle is also welcoming the posh threads of London designer, Catherine Dean. Her designs look that of royalty with a fresh twist. Catherine is influenced by her experiences living in both London and Hong Kong, working to find her Yin and Yang. Femininity is achieved through her passion of combining old techniques with a fresh approach. Experience royalty on your special day with one of Catherine’s regal gowns. While at NYC fashion week, owner of Elle, Krystel Tien, said they came across some gorgeous new trends on the runway that they are going to be bringing back to San Diego. “Our goal is to find unique, stunning, and stylish gowns to bring to the Southern California bride.” They have found that instead of having an overwhelming selection of gowns, they would rather keep the boutique small where brides are sure to find only the best and not be overwhelmed by the process. They are rewriting the rules of traditional bridal style and are so excited to bring you these gowns along with accessories, paper goods, and intimates that are sure to make your wedding day details extraordinary.

how do you know? How do you know…he’s the one? You may have been asked this question by your parents, your friends, even yourself. The answer isn’t always perfectly clear; he may or may not be ‘ideal’ on paper; you may have known him for only two months or perhaps you’ve been hanging in there a good five years; he may be a cowboy while you were visualizing a business man. The so-called ‘signs’ aren’t always there, but somehow, you just know. At Ceremony, we feel the same way about our Great List of wedding professionals that we recommend and invite to join our family of advertising partners. We take this vendor collective very seriously, which is why we don’t put arbitrary consideration requirements in an antiquated form. We don’t have a scholastic checklist to help us come up with an ‘A’ grade. We don’t even have a job application type form to fill out. You see, when it comes to choosing our Great List of recommended professionals, we believe there is no specific formula for choosing who we invite to join our family. Probably not unlike you, we take a looksee at Facebook, we inquire with their friends and colleagues and, most importantly, we get to know them by social networking the old-fashioned way (in person). In the end, we go with our gut. We just… know. You will find that some of these recommended vendors have refined their businesses over the past twenty years, while others bring fresh ideas after having recently started their own businesses. Many of our recommended venues are on the AAA Five-Diamond Resort list; others include charming private estates and everything in between. Additionally, the esteemed planners on the following pages each approach weddings in their own unique way, and we have interviewed each of them in order to give you an up close and personal look at their backgrounds, their ideas, and their wedding ingenuity. We hope that you will find this varied Great List vendor collective to be helpful in finding your wedding day professionals. There is no single vendor that is perfect for everyone, but there are vendors that are perfect for you. And when you meet them, you will just know.

Coordinator Spotlight THIS IS HOW IT CAME TO BE: My mother, Helen Walker, began her business, Coronado Weddings, in 1991. I took over the business in 2004 and changed the name to Victoria Weddings & Events as I was doing weddings all over San Diego and not just Coronado. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY BACKGROUND: I worked as a restaurant and catering manager in hotels from San Diego to New York City for almost 14 years, which gave me a full understanding of the operational side of planning an event.

CEREMONY: With social media getting out of hand at weddings, I have been suggesting my brides post the following outside of their ceremony or in the backs of their programs: Welcome to our "unplugged" ceremony. We invite you to be present as we celebrate in the sacrament of marriage and kindly ask you to turn off and put away your cell phones and enjoy the moment with us.
MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Every wedding is beautiful, but the design and special touches should mirror the personality of the couple, even in the smallest of details. I enjoy hearing guests comment, “That is so like Jessie and Andrew!”
HOT: Bride and groom’s families sharing wedding expenses
A FAVORITE WEDDING THAT I HAVE PLANNED: I am in the middle of planning it! A small but amazing wedding that will be using all of the space at the Grand Del Mar with a French/Bohemian Rococo inspiration with different elements in each room that will tie it all together.
LOVE IT: “Unplugged” wedding ceremonies
3 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE MY STYLE: Sophisticated, artistic and fun
NOT: Bride’s family having to host the entire wedding
OVER IT: Guests watching a ceremony through their cameras and ipads. Emily Post would roll over in her grave!

I LOVE WEDDINGS BECAUSE: It is a reason to celebrate life, love, family and friends. YOU’RE ENGAGED! YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS: It’s going to be a roller coaster of emotions with highs and lows and the most memorable time of your life. SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME: I can’t stand attention and prefer to work as behind the scenes as possible. I try to be as incognito as possible while managing an event. MY FAMILY: I am married with two children, Alexander and Vanessa.

THIS IS HOW IT CAME TO BE: My good friend was a photographer at the time and casually said to me, “You would be a great wedding coordinator.” I wasn’t even sure what that meant and if couples even hired wedding coordinators. I loved the idea though because I love love! I studied it for a year and then made myself a business card. The rest is history. I have been a wedding coordinator for 15 years and have loved every minute. I tell people all the time that some of my best ideas were not even mine, so pay attention to people’s ideas!

Idea Ingenuity PHOTOGRAPHY: Pictures last a lifetime and beyond. Choose a person you trust! DESTINATION WEDDINGS: Are awesome.
FASHION: Be yourself. If you like cowboy boots, wear them at your wedding! If you like the color red, wear red shoes! I encourage my brides and grooms to express themselves through the details of their wedding and their fashion decisions. DÉCOR: The best part of planning the party is the love that goes into selecting each detail…or not. If you need my help with the details, I’m your girl! HOT: Wedding dress with sleeves (cap sleeve, mid-sleeve, long sleeve) LOVE IT: Shopping for the bride and the groom. I love a groom who wants to look good! BEVERAGE: Always pay for your guests’ drinks! It’s the one party that you are treating them to “next round’s on me” all night! CAKE: Cake cutting is the most romantic part of the wedding. You can cut a cupcake, a macaroon, a pie, just be sure to clink a glass of bubbly and dedicate it to your new spouse! GUEST LIST: Invite the people you would have over to your home for dinner. This is great “food for thought”. Who really matters to you? WEDDING TRADITIONS: Love some, leave some.
46
All in the Details I LOVE WEDDINGS BECAUSE: The wedding planning process is great practice for being married! You learn how to listen to each other, prioritize together, deal with parents and setting loving boundaries, and celebrating small and large accomplishments. MY FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP: Nordstrom and vintage stores MY CLAIM TO FAME: Weddings and fashion
I BELIEVE: Life is ever changing. The better we are equipped to handle change, the happier our lives become. SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME: I am a triplet girl!
3 WORDS OTHERS WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE ME: Compassionate, calm and caring DESERTED ISLAND, THREE OBJECTS, GO: Vogue magazine subscription, Spotify with speakers, and chocolate.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ME: Constantly trying to be a better person by listening, learning, discovering and apologizing. A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY BACKGROUND: I have an associate degree in nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education. I worked as an OB/GYN nurse and public health teacher. I was working with women in a very happy but vulnerable time in their lives, very much like planning a wedding! I spent 10 years as a wardrobe consultant and often married the two: fashion and weddings!

Idea Ingenuity LATE NIGHT SNACKS: If you do late night snacks, make sure you provide small boxes so people can take them to go. MUSIC: I love the new trend of DJs who are multi talented and can play live music during dinner and then DJ for all the dance music. CEREMONY: Plan your ceremony early on in the planning. Do not leave it until the last minute. The words, readings and music that you choose set the tone and the emotion for the rest of your wedding day. DÉCOR: Currently, my favorite trend is mixing classic elegant flowers and crystal chandeliers with rustic tables and market lighting. It makes the reception warm and inviting. WEDDING MENU: Be aware of flavors and colors when designing a menu. Do not repeat anything. I recommend having a beautiful first course presentation or family style salads and then open the buffets or stations. It gives people time to settle down and enjoy a course and their company before they have to line up for their dinner! PHOTO BOOTHS: Photo booths can be fun if you personalize them (like take photos of your faces with different expressions and put them on cards and add fun props based on the theme of the wedding or the location). A fun trend now is to have someone build a custom backdrop for your photo booth. COLOR PALETTES: I love the new trend towards navy blue as a wedding accent instead of black, as it suits our California lifestyle. Blush and white will never go out of style, but I love it when people embrace color. BUDGET: Stick to your budget and there will be less stress. HOT: Family style food service NOT: Food trucks
LOVE IT: Dessert bars

FLOWERS: We love when our couples have a brunch the day after the wedding to see their closest family and friends before jetting off to the honeymoon. Save the centerpieces from the wedding and use some as centerpieces for brunch and the others you can have your guests (or florist) pull apart to create flower crowns and boutonnieres for your closest friends and family to wear at brunch and for the day. Garden party!
MY FAMILY: My husband, Joel Tien, is a police officer. He is a SWAT officer and works in the street gang unit. We balance each other out. He lets me know that if things seem to be going wrong, no one is dying and it will all be okay. I let him know that there is love and goodness in the world. We have a 5 pound, full of personality, Maltese named ‘B’.
WELCOME GIFTS: We love the idea of welcome bags for all of your out of town guests. VOWS: While the couple normally makes vows to each other, we love when the guests also make vows to the couple to love, support, and stand by them in their new marriage. It’s a way for the guests to be involved in the ceremony and is a beautiful commitment. COLOR PALETTE: Our current favorite is French blue and grey. DESTINATION WEDDINGS: Greet your guests to the wedding weekend with whatever they may need for the weekend- sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, flip flops, after-sun lotion, towel (ask them to all bring their sunglasses to the wedding, it makes for fun photos. GUEST LIST: Don’t invite people out of obligation. We have learned from experience that you will just regret it. Only invite those you really want at your wedding.

THIS IS HOW IT CAME TO BE: In 2008, I was able to combine my love for fashion and events by founding Couture Events! Coming from the world of fashion where couture is everything, I wanted to combine all of the elements of couture into my events: quality, handmade, gorgeous, unique, and glamorous. I LOVE WEDDINGS BECAUSE: It’s a time to celebrate the love that two people have for one another. There is nothing more beautiful in life than love. YOU’RE ENGAGED! YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS: You need a coordinator! Why? Call me, I will tell you all about it. Usually the money you spend on a coordinator they can help you save on the wedding. No reason to stress or worry about a thing, let a coordinator take care of it. MY FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP: Elle Bridal Boutique for all things wedding. ON MY BUCKET LIST: To coordinate a destination wedding in Paris! MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY: Easter - spring time, pastels, bunnies, decorating eggs, family & friends, and the reminder of new life. It’s a beautiful thing.

THIS IS HOW IT CAME TO BE: My event planning career began while working as an interior designer in Miami as a part of the planning committee for the South Florida Interior Design Awards Gala. WEDDING TRADITIONS: The first dance is one of my favorite wedding traditions! Whether watching the bride and groom show their team work as they expertly maneuver through a choreographed number or gliding across the dance floor while being lost in each other’s eyes, tres romantic!
MY DREAM WEDDING: I am kind of in love with Italy, specifically Tuscany's food, wine, art, culture and style, and it is a dream of mine to one day plan a wedding there. I love that there are some beautiful venues here in San Diego that make you feel as if you were transported to the Mediterranean.
LIGHTING: If you want to transform a space, then lighting is key! Create a focal point with a chandelier or a cluster of chandeliers and create a romantic ambiance with market lighting, LED uplights and lots of candles. When it comes to candles, more is more!
MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: When it comes to design, it’s about finding that special, significant unique piece or pieces that are a reflection of what is most important to the bride and groom. Then, use that as the basis to extrapolate an entire ambiance and expression so that there is a beautiful cohesiveness throughout with an abundance of artistic detail.
COLOR PALETTE: When choosing your color palette, select your primary color and then complementary or supporting colors in softer shades and tones to create a romantic and elegant feel. For example, midnight blue with blush, buttery creams and pops of gold.
3 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE MY STYLE: Creative, classic and elegant
FOOD: One way to get your guests excited about the food and mixing and mingling is to have food stations with unique displays and fun containers.
MY FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP: Charming boutique stores where you find unique treasures like the gems that are tucked away in Laguna Beach or Carmel.
ENTERTAINMENT: Having a mixture of entertainment options throughout the wedding lends a sense of movement and excitement to the event. For example, a string quartet during the ceremony, a jazz band for cocktail hour and a DJ with a percussionist during the reception along with a surprise dance or acrobat performance.
MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT OF ALL TIME: There is this quaint little restaurant in Paris where I had the best lasagna in the world with the most amazing pink sauce! I still dream about it and next time I go back I will have to find it!
"I love weddings because it is a momentous, joyous occasion in a couple’s lives. It means that two people have found that special person that they want to spend the rest of their life with, and I get to help them make their dream wedding a reality!"

THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE WAS: It was the Valentine’s Day when my then-boyfriend surprised me with a staycation at the Lodge and asked me to marry him on the Torrey Pines beach as the sun was going down. SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME: I love to cook and am still trying to achieve the perfect pink sauce! DESERTED ISLAND, THREE OBJECTS, GO: My husband and kids and my bridal emergency kit because it has everything! MY FAVORITE DRINK: Bubbles…champagne always makes me feel like I am celebrating!

MONARCH WEDDINGS KELI CHRISTENSON
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY BACKGROUND: As early as high school, I had a desire and natural talent for planning parties and social gatherings. Once I was in the corporate world, I enjoyed planning networking events, which further sparked this interest and ultimately lead me to pursue the event industry. In 2003, I began my career as an event planner for a local small business. I also felt a real need to fulfill my creative side, so in addition to an event planner I was a freelance makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics, which exposed me to brides and the world of weddings. Through this experience, I saw a real potential and opportunity for a career as a wedding planner. As luck would have it, in 2003 I met one of San Diego’s most prestigious wedding planners who happened to be looking for an assistant. I jumped at the opportunity and immediately started working with her in various capacities to gain as much experience and knowledge as I could. In 2008, I took a full-time event planning position with a medical device company and continued to assist with weddings on weekends. After a couple of years, it became really clear to me that wedding planning was my true passion for a career. In 2011, I obtained a certificate in event management from USD and shortly thereafter I proudly launched Monarch Weddings and it’s been bliss ever since.

COLOR PALETTE: Metallics! They’re not just for the glitzy glam bride anymore. Metallics are surprisingly versatile and being used at various styles of weddings. Gold and bronze metallic are a nice pop of warm metallic, but rose gold will be the popular metallic for 2016.
3 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE MY STYLE: Elegant, whimsical, and personable to each unique bride I have the pleasure of working with
FASHION: Hot wedding dress trends for 2016 will be everything from the return to the more traditional style with long lace sleeves and soft, voluminous tulle skirts to the dramatic plunging neckline, 3-D floral appliqués over soft tulle, and my personal favorite, the ultra-low back in the cut-out style or the illusion panel.
MY DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Is much like my business philosophy, “transforming dreams into reality.” By incorporating my bride’s vision, the couple’s unique personalities and pairing that with my design expertise, I create an atmosphere that represents their wedding style.
DÉCOR: Add a custom, large-scale backdrop! It’s a great way to feature the escort card table, cake table and/or dessert station, photo booth or even a sweetheart table – dramatic, unique, custom and great way to frame any space you want to highlight. FOOD & BEVERAGE: Offer your guests a signature his and hers welcome cocktail upon arrival. Not only is this a great way to welcome your guests, its also another great way to pull more of your personalities into your wedding. Also, create a perfect pairing for your cocktail hour! It’s common to pair wine with food, so why not pair your appetizers with mini cocktails? A few ideas of this would be: a small one-bite taco with a margarita shooter or hamburger slider or mini corndog with a local craft beer. PHOTOGRAPHY: Opt for a first look with dad! We all know the benefits of a first look (takes out the rush and stress of trying to get all the images in during cocktail hour), but a first look with dad is also really special. When dad sees his little girl all grown up and in all her bridal splendor for the first time, it’s so touching. It’s really nice to create this very private, sentimental moment and dads really seem to appreciate it! VIDEOGRAPHY: Short highlight films are great. With the age of online sharing, couples are really embracing and seeing a value in having a videographer create a short highlight film of their wedding day that they can share online. When artistically done, it’s a great way to get a glimpse into the big day!

I FIND INSPIRATION IN: Nature, fashion and art MY FAVORITE WEDDING VENUES: The Lodge at Torrey Pines because it has character and charm, The Grand Del Mar because of its opulent elegance, and La Valencia because of its stunning ocean views MY FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP: Nordies, of course! IF MONEY WERE NO OBJECT, I WOULD: Take a year to travel around the world to learn and experience different cultures. During these travels, I would also like to spend time in rural impoverished countries to do humanitarian work. I BELIEVE: We are all here to make a difference, to help others and to love. SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME: I’m ambidextrous THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ME: My faith and my family MY FAVORITE STAYCATION: La Costa Resort

FAVORS: The nicest thing I have seen a couple do is write personalized thank you notes to each guest and leave them at their place setting. Idea Ingenuity FOOD & BEVERAGE/WEDDING MENU: I love to create custom menus for the client. It’s a nice touch to also add a cultural item to the menu that their family would appreciate and enjoy. MUSIC/ENTERTAINMENT: I always suggest having live music for the ceremony and cocktail hour. It just sets the mood and ambiance of the wedding. Having a musician perform live can be a truly romantic moment, which creates a beautiful atmosphere at your most special day! PHOTOGRAPHY: It’s very important to hire an amazing photographer. These will be the photos you will keep and look back on forever. Splurge a little and invest in hiring a good quality photographer! VIDEOGRAPHY: Couples always ask me if a videographer is crucial to have, and I always say yes. They capture the most special moments in a wedding that photographs can’t, specifically vows and speeches. TRANSPORTATION: You can never go wrong with a Vintage Rolls Royce! It’s so classy and unique.

our food philosophy: We believe that food is a journey and we want to take you along for the ride. We offer a variety of outstanding cuisine that we all personally love and have sampled ourselves. And because everybody’s taste buds differ, we don’t limit ourselves to the standard menus. Our chefs are always up for a challenge and we’re always looking for ways to expand our culinary horizons.
on-trend food ideas for 2016 weddings: Produce is finally getting to be the star of the meal instead of just a side, and it’s one of our favorite ways to incorporate a lot of color and flavor into the dining experience. Our current favorite is the grilled butternut squash steak topped with roasted poblano and corn relish, queso fresco, and fresh coriander.
if you could suggest three courses for a couple to serve at their wedding, what would they be? Compressed watermelon salad: Pickled and compressed heirloom watermelon with balsamic reduction, basil emulsion and sea salt foam
We’re also seeing a revival of pairing menus, where we complement each dish with a cocktail or wine course (maybe even whiskey!). These are typically requested by couples who want the reception to be a truly exceptional dining experience for their guests. trending ways to elevate the presentation of meals: Couples are becoming more aware of food presentation and making it a priority when finalizing menu selections. One of the best ways to ensure a clean and classic plate is a compressed dish, such as our compressed salad of baby arugula. It’s a long standing favorite, but we’re thrilled to see it embraced often. a neat late-night wedding snack idea: A spiked coffee or hot chocolate station is always one that goes over well with guests. It can be as caffeinated (or as boozy) as you’d like!
62
Peppercorn-crusted filet mignon with café de Paris butter: Potatoes dauphinoise, broccolini with extra virgin olive oil and crushed chili flakes Decadent sea salt caramel chocolate torte: Nutella fuilletine crunch, bitter hazelnut biscuit, dark chocolate sabayon mousse, sea salt caramel cream, draped in nutella ganache, chocolate pralines and raspberry champagne reduction what is your best advice for couples looking for their perfect caterer? Firstly, take time to enjoy being engaged. It’s easy to get overwhelmed at this time that should be such a joyous occasion. Once you get an idea of your wedding wish list, call us and trust the professionals to guide you along. We get to plan weddings every single day and we want nothing but the best for your big day. After all, we’re in this together.

Field of Dreams
nearby destination weddings and honeymoons at rancho la puerta rancholapuerta.com
COURTESY OF RANCHO LA PUERTA
In 1940, wellness gurus Edmond and Deborah Szekely had a revelation, “If we build it, they will come.” And so began the modern fitness evolution. Rancho La Puerta became the first health spa as we know them today, and over the past 75 years they have earned a healthy resume, including the #1 ranking by Travel + Leisure as the top destination spa in the world four out of the past five years. What started out in a windowless adobe “house” amongst the vast desert fields of Baja California with a wondrous view of Mt. Kuchumaa, a mountain held sacred by Native Americans for thousands of years, is now a 3,000-acre world-renowned destination for those seeking health, fitness, relaxation, and notably romance. The Ranch is still operated by the Szekely family today and is richly ingrained in Mexico’s deep-rooted traditions of family and hospitality. Notable areas of The Ranch’s growth include the 83 sprawling casitas decorated with fine folk art and authentic Otomi textiles, La Cocina Que Canta culinary center and cooking school, an unparalleled 6-acre organic farm, a top-notch spa, several gyms, structures and pools that seamlessly blend into its exquisitely manicured acres, and lucky for you, its new offerings for weddings and special events. The options are seemingly endless for The Ranch’s truly special experiences that take you from pre “I will” to post “I Do.” Destination Wedding Weekend Rancho La Puerta is the ultimate in destination weddings! If you are looking for an intimate destination wedding with your closest family and friends, without the added time and costs for travel, the three or four night stay for you and your guests would be a perfect option. Your wedding weekend may be one of the few times in your lives where you have everyone you truly love all together in one place at one time. The Ranch’s inherent qualities help to make that experience all the more special. With its “unplugged” mantra, all-inclusive amenities, family style dinners and variety of activities offered, there is something for everyone to do and yet still be together. You and your guests can partake in the array of fitness classes available for any level (including the popular cardio drumming); attend the Salsa y Salsa event where you will not only learn to make delicious salsa, but dance it as well; enjoy an exhilarating morning hike to La Cocina Que Canta for a healthy and tasty organic breakfast; hone your cooking skills in a hands-on cooking class and delight in the fruits of your labor; luxuriate in a hot stone facial followed by a rooftop outdoor spa dip and shower; indulge in wine tasting of the surprisingly phenomenal wines from the Valle de Guadalupe with sommelier Alberto Cortez; enjoy select breakfasts poolside during the splendid, gorgeous mornings; and best of all, revel in Manuel’s dance classes for the most fun you’ve ever had exercising. Perhaps you are dreaming of a destination wedding with a larger guest list and unique weekend activity options. The less- traveled, clean and somewhat sleepy border town of Tecate and its neighboring Valle de Guadalupe beckon. Guests may choose to stay at nearby Santuario Diegueno Hotel and visit The Baja’s magnificent wine region in the days before or after. While wine touring, dinner at Finco Altozano is a must. The outdoor country setting of Tijuana Chef Javier Plascencia’s restaurant is brilliant with a menu to match. For an ultra-casual meal, the tacos at El Amigo alone are worth the trip.

The Wedding Day Whether you and your guests are staying at the resort or coming in for the day, the natural wedding setting is a true sanctuary. You can choose to get married and host your reception outdoors amongst the tranquil gardens with sacred mountain views, perhaps with a Mariachi band at dinner under the arbor of twinkling lights, or within the grand rancho ambiance of the tiled great room and courtyards. Either way, on-site wedding planner Maura Montoya and Chef Denise Roa will help make your wedding day a most memorable one. Chef Denise is as creative as she is talented. Of course, she reaps the fruits of their long-time gardener’s labor, but her innovation shows when she cooks and plates a radish to look like a scallop and taste as delightful. Healthy never tasted so delicious. She will cater to any allergy or dietary restrictions with finesse, and although sustainably caught seafood is magnificently prepared, it is often the organic garden-to-table produce that is the star on the plate. Honeymoons and Elopements Honeymoons aren’t only for the just-married. A pre-wedding moon allows you to de-stress and reconnect before the big day. Either way, a week at Rancho La Puerta will start your marriage off in a healthy and rejuvenating way – for both the mind and body, as well as romantically and spiritually. The unplugged life on The Ranch reminds guests to live in the moment, to seize the experience of being with our loved ones in all of nature’s beauty. There is wifi in some areas, if you are so inclined, but it is limited so that you won’t be all-consumed. Endless Experiences The opportunities are endless for events at The Ranch that give you quality time with a loved one or two, or six. Saturday at the Ranch is a great opportunity to spend a quality day with your mom or your bridesmaids. During the monthly scheduled events, guests are able to enjoy the amenities for a day, including spa time and massage, a nature hike, fitness classes and a culinary cooking experience. Like most of their guests, once you find your way to The Ranch the first time, you will return time and time again. From weddings to honeymoons, to engagement parties or a day with your maids, Rancho La Puerta is bar-none when it comes to fulfilling experiences that nourish the mind, body and soul and providing an environment for investing in each other. Getting There When people think of crossing the border, it is often assumed that means Tijuana. However, Rancho La Puerta sits just a few short miles from the clean and easy Tecate border crossing, which is only 40 miles from the San Diego Airport. You and your guests may drive across, or you may drive to the border and have resort drivers pick you up and escort you through. Another convenient option, especially for a bit larger weddings, is to arrange for Rancho La Puerta’s charter bus to transport your guests to and from the San Diego Airport or a designated San Diego hotel. Any option is extremely convenient and seamless, as Rancho La Puerta has been transporting guests for three quarters of a century. The Details Minimum 25 guests and maximum 120 guests for wedding-only packages. Minimum of 8 guests for destination wedding weekend packages at The Ranch. Elopement packages also available. Couple and all guests must have valid passport at time of travel. CEREMONYMAGAZINE.COM

The Beauty of a Bride By Marissa Boucher, Owner of The Boudoir Divas theboudoirdivas.com
While boudoir photography was introduced as the “sexiest gift for the groom”TM not too long ago, this new trend took off rapidly as more and more grooms were stunned speechless by this surprise gift. As a photographer who was part of this new movement, it was fun to see it gain momentum. Word spread as groomsmen watched the groom’s eyes get wide with amazement as they saw him open this secret book just minutes before his bride walked down the aisle toward him. It was quite the new hot topic, and everyone understood why. Boudoir was once considered risqué and taboo, but it has now been converted into what we love it to be — a private celebration of the beauty of intimacy within a couple. And not just for the couple as a unit, individually for the bride herself as well. It’s a way to celebrate and document what has always been one of the most special traditions in womanhood, the season of wedding preparation. It looks much different these days than it did even a hundred years ago, with pinterest, wedding magazines, and going down the #wedding hashtag rabbit trails, but the overall anticipation and tradition remains. While our prep also looks different, the sweet sentiment swirling in a bride’s heart is all the same as it ever was. She radiates with the hopes, wishes and dreams this memorable time inspires. And as photographers, we love that we get to celebrate and document the bride aglow with anticipation and rosy with the frantic pace that accompanies this season. It’s wonderful to see the bride’s experience play out. She comes to our studio nervous but enjoys this confidenceboosting experience more than she ever thinks she will. While feeling better in her own skin, she romances her groom with this sweet gesture. It’s a win-win. We feel our job is to enter into that space with her, inspired to create something that represents her beautifully. At the risk of sounding entirely cheesy, we boudoir photographers feed off the hopes that are quietly spilling from our brides’ hearts, and I don’t think there is anything more a photographer loves than this in a subject. So much of the wedding prep is about tasks, to-do lists, and deadlines. We love that a boudoir session is a time to slow down, tune out the details, and to step into this season by being present. We highly encourage you to do this for your spouse-to-be but even more so for yourself. Look for a highly qualified boudoir photographer, read their testimonials, look for consistency in their galleries of images, and most importantly, get a sense that you will feel comfortable with them. You won’t regret it!

The day Mitch proposed started out like a normal Saturday. Mitch "ran some errands" in the morning and then they walked to lunch at the Fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica. At one point during lunch, Lindsay went to the restroom, and when she came back, Mitch was gone. He had left a photo of them on the table, and on the back was a note that said "Today is the start of our life together. Go to the front of the hotel where an Uber will be waiting for you.” She was driven up to the the most beautiful view in the Pacific Palisades on the top of a cliff overlooking Santa Monica. There Mitch was, standing at a bench with rose petals everywhere, a bottle of champagne, two glasses, and a huge smile.
love note
One of Lindsay’s favorite moments was during cocktail hour when their planner, Victoria, came up to them and asked if they wanted to see the reception before all of the guests went in there. While they wanted to enjoy cocktail hour, they decided to go up to the room with both of their parents. They opened the doors to the ballroom and the (awesome) band started playing Ray Lamontagne "You Are The Best Thing", one of their favorite songs. They got to dance just the 6 of them in the beautiful room before anyone else came up there.

Brandon was living in Ohio and Jazmin was living in California. Jazmin’s sister was married to one of Brandon’s lifelong friends in Ohio. When she gave birth to her second child, Jazmin came from California to help with the new baby. After being in Ohio for a few days, Jazmin and Brandon ended up at the same party where they shared a few playful glances across the room before eventually talking to each other the rest of the night. Jazmin’s charm and wit was undeniable, and Brandon knew he better stay sharp if he had any chance of winning her heart.

something
romantic to go with their venue. After a couple of meetings with their florist, they came up with a rustic glam wedding. Jazmin loves the look of neutrals mixed in with a pop of pastels. They added the glam element by adding a chandelier and crystal beadings hanging from the archway, as well as the pearl beading on her dress and bouquets.

The couple thinks they met in preschool. They grew up about a mile away from each other in a small town and have come to realize that they went to the same schools and did the same activities at the same time. They never really talked until they ended up in the same English class in college. Lisa sat down next to Nahuel, and he asked,” Don’t I know you?” Now, here they are!
love note
When planning the wedding, Lisa and Nahuel knew they wanted "nice and classy, but not super fancy." They also knew they wanted both the ceremony and reception to be outside. After touring about 6 venues and touring hundreds online, they fell in love with Pala Mesa Resort. The ceremony site was exactly what they wanted and the reception tent was absolutely gorgeous, especially with all of the beautiful chandeliers and amazing centerpieces. Looking back, they wouldn't change a thing!

Neola and Warren got engaged on Valentine’s Day. Warren's parents were visiting. During dinner, Warren snapped at one of them for mentioning the possibility of marriage. Neola was upset, because she interpreted it as Warren not wanting to get married. When they returned home, Warren proposed. He then explained that the reaction was not because of anything except his concern that someone would give away the secret before he asked Neola.
love note
During the ceremony, the band started playing the Circle of Life song from Lion King as the wedding party began coming down the aisle. When the music started, all of the animals came over to listen. There was a one week old baby rhino frolicking with a few adult rhinos and several baby giraffes with the adult giraffes. People asked if they somehow staged it.

The couple met at work in 2007 while working for the city of Paramount. They were friends for the first couple of years and started dating in 2009. Roger proposed while they were on vacation in Miami last September. Vanessa was taking a nap before dinner and Roger had a bubble bath waiting for when she woke up. They were just enjoying each other’s company when he started expressing how much he loved her and he popped the question right then and there.
love note
Vanessa and Roger are big on history and historical locations. When they found out their venue was a historical site, in addition to the fact that it’s absolutely gorgeous, they could not pass up getting married there.

Lauren and Steve met in English class in the beginning of their junior year of high school back home in Chicago. Their first date was that October. Seven years later after moving to California, Steve proposed at the Point Loma Cliffs as the sun was setting.

One of Lauren’s fondest moments was the morning of their wedding. She and Steve had breakfast together at the Ponte Vineyard Inn outside overlooking their ceremony space being set up. She loved having it be just the two of them completely calm and enjoying their moments alone together before getting ready and being separated.

Whitney and Tom met in 2013 while both playing for the volleyball teams at Durham University in England. They got engaged on a day trip to Huntington Beach when he came home with Whitney last Christmas to Southern California. They wanted a photo together with the sunset at the pier, so Tom went over to ask some people if they could take their picture. He was really asking if they would take pictures of him proposing. They took a normal picture first, then he turned to Whitney, catching her by complete surprise, and proposed at sunset on her favorite beach.
love note
Whitney’s fondest moment was coming down the aisle looking at Tom and trying to hard not to cry. She was bubbling over with love and excitement.
