Insight News IT contractor demand hits a new high for 2016 The demand for IT contractors has seen a slow down during the last few months, but the demand has once again started to grow by the end of May. According to a report from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), April saw a demand market index of 52.9 (score over 50 shows growth over the previous month), making April the lowest index score for the last three years. For the first time this year, the demand for IT contractors has seen a growth compared to its previous month with a market index score of 55.0. https://www.certes.co.uk/blog/2016/06/growth-seen-in-demand-for-it-contractors-first-time-in-2016

Demand for talent remains high in the UK’s creative industries Demand for professionals in London’s creative occupations remains exceptionally high, with over a third of jobs in the sector found within the UK’s main creative hub. This is according to the latest Professional Recruitment Trends report from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo). Geographical analysis, based on data provided by Burning Glass, somewhat unsurprisingly indicates that 33.5% of all creative occupation postings were found in Greater London. The South East ranks second with 16.1% of creative roles followed by the West Midlands in third with an 8.1% share of total job postings. The list of ‘in demand’ skills for creative roles is mostly dominated by coding and programming languages. However, the report suggests that the skills in the highest demand, excluding those largely specific to IT based roles, are communication, creativity and writing. https://www.certes.co.uk/blog/2016/06/demand-for-talent-remains-high-in-the-uks-creative-industries

Will UK data protection be affected by Brexit If Britain chooses to leave the EU in the referendum on 23 June, the full exit process could take as little as two years. Businesses are understandably caught in a state of flux currently as uncertainty is everywhere. But when it comes to data, and especially data security, there are a few points they can be reasonably certain of. Firstly, the requirements of the new EU general data protection regulation (GDPR) due to be implemented imminently will still apply in some guise. Secondly, issues of access to the European general public’s sensitive data when shared with America – as brought about by the Safe Harbour ruling and recently negotiated Privacy Shield – are not going to disappear. The question is: if UK businesses are not governed by the EU, will they still have to abide by its laws? https://www.certes.co.uk/blog/2016/06/Would-UK-data-protection-be-affected-by-Brexit
