President’s Message

Welcome to the 19th Annual Energizing Summit! In all the years I have been involved in the beauty industry I have seen many changes. The past few years have been nothing different. With Social Media taking over now more than ever is it important to keep yourself educated and become an expert colorist. Anyone and everyone can go online watch a tutorial and think they know what they are talking about now. And there is a lot of misinformation out there. It is important we do not let our clients become more informed than us. The best way to do this is quality EDUCATION. That is where the Energizing Summit comes in. We offer small classes so you have a chance to ask questions and interact with the educators in a more personal setting. There are a variety of haircolor subjects to choose from so you can really focus on the areas you need help in most. We have and will always fight to continue to elevate our industry and produce excellent haircolorists. We are here for you. Take advantage of the exceptional talent we have gathered this year. We look forward to your participation and encourage you to work towards being the best you that you can be. I hope to see you there!

YOUR STORY REWRITTEN: So much has changed in the beauty industry and this can be frightening to some and invigorating to others. One of the biggest “changes” in our industry is the paradigm shift around the curly hair community. The Texture vs Race movement is calling for a change in narrative as we explore ways to embody a unified culture. The first step to embracing growth personally and professionally is to take inventory of the things that seem to paralyze us. I want to invite you to rewrite your story, recreate your mission, and remember why you started. Change gives the opportunity for our industry to grow, growth is the measure of all involved. Change is inevitable; Growth is optional. (John Maxwell))

Haircolor Forum Sunday 5:00 P.M. Unplugged and unfiltered, the Forum brings together leading minds in haircolor for a lively conversation that is sure to both inform and inspire. Bring your questions and opinions as we delve into everything from science vs myths to product development and innovation. Moderated by Hairbrained Gordon Miller.

Ravishing Reds: friend or foe? Reds are a common oxymoron for stylists. Sometimes they can make as much sense as a “small giant”. They can be the most challenging to maintain and keep vibrant, but when you want a change they can sometimes be the hardest to remove. They are beautiful, classy, sassy, and let’s face it, stubborn and temperamental. Working with basic mixology and underlying pigments will help this category become one of your favorites. In this class we will get a better understanding of how to formulate, manipulate, and correct this beast of a color without turning RED in the face. Missy Peterson ABCH

Knowing and Understanding Bleaches This class is all about bleaches. Working with a variety of bleaches, each participant will put their bleach through its paces. Then the participants will compare results: which is faster, which is slower, which produces the most dust when mixing. It is also interesting to note the pH of each bleach and how much it changes the longer the bleach has been mixed. The price of each bleach is explored to see if the more expensive bleaches are worth the additional money. You will come away from this class with a world of knowledge about bleaches. This is one workshop serious haircolorists can’t afford to miss! Marco Pelusi

Killer Corrective Techniques

Denise Fraser ABCH

Sunday: 11:00am 3:30pm Monday:11:00am 3:30pm Lecture

Killer Corrective Techniques is a class on how to implement various foiling methods. Most corrective haircolors must be applied with some type of dimensional application. It is all a matter of taking a careful assessment of the hair you are going to be working on and giving the client some options. Chemistry of Haircolor Watch Tom Dispenza make hair color, live. Watch Tom create brown, red and gold shades from the raw chemicals. Watch Tom bleach natural melanin that has been collected in test beakers in front of your eyes. Watch the stages of lightening (underlying pigment) created live and understand why the typical charts are wrong. Watch how mother nature creates light, medium and dark brown in hair and how texture plays a part in both depth and brassiness. Tom will explain why the color wheel works for an artist painting a picture but not for hair color. He will explain and demonstrate tonality Tom Dispenza like never before. This class is designed for the serious colorist who wants to truly understand the real facts of Sunday: 11:00am 3:30pm color, not the hype. Monday: 9:30am 2:00pm Lecture 26
