The “Shrine of Democracy” attracts nearly 3 million people annually to see the carved 60ft sculptures of presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln representing the first 130 years of the history of the United States. Admission is free. Parking is $11.00 per car and $50.00 for buses. Located on Hwy 244 near the city of Keystone.
Tour the World’s largest mammoth research facility and experience an active paleontological dig site. Believed to have been a sinkhole fed by springs, it is the only left-as-found site for mammoth bones in America. 1 mile southwest on the US Hwy 18 bypass in Hot Springs, SD. Open year round.
George S. Mickelson Trail Completed in September of 1998, its gentle slopes and easy access allows people of all ages and abilities to enjoy its 109 miles and more than 100 converted railroad bridges and 4 rock tunnels. There are 15 trailheads, with parking, self-sale trail pass stations, vault toilets, and tables.
Devil’s Tower National Monument Designated in 1906, the nation’s first national monument is actually the core of a volcano, and is sacred to tribes with connections to the Black Hills. At 865 feet high, with 7.4 miles of paths, it offers great rock climbing and hiking. It’s perhaps best remembered for – “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. Open year-round. (307) 467-5283

Mt. Moriah Cemetary / Deadwood Situated on a mountainous plateau overlooking Deadwood Gulch is historic Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Established in 1878 by the Lawrence County Commission, Mt. Moriah is the final resting place of western legends - including Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane, murderers, madams, and pillars of Deadwood’s early economic development.

Badlands National Park 75 miles east of Rapid City, The Badlands contain one of the world’s richest fossil beds. Ancient mammals such as the rhino, horse and sabertoothed cat once roamed here.
