Mission San Xavier del Bac

The “White Dove of the Desert” was built between 1783 and 1797, and is the oldest European structure in Arizona. The Mission is considered one of the finest examples of Spanish Colonial architecture in the United States. It is named after Francis Xavier, the co-founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit order of priests and brothers). Docent tours of this remarkable building are available. The Mission is located about 10 miles south of Tucson. 1950 West San Xavier Road, Tucson

Go birding or hiking, learn about the Old West, visit mining towns, go wine tasting, visit Kartchner Caverns State Park – you can do it all in just a few days without ever leaving Cochise County. Located in southeast Arizona, this is one of the most culturally, historically and geographically diverse areas in the American Southwest: Benson, Bisbee, Douglas, Tombstone, Sierra Vista and Willcox – legendary towns within a short drive of one another.

Sierra Vista-Bird Watching

Located at the center of one of the finest birding areas in the United States, Sierra Vista is often referred to as “The Hummingbird Capital of the U.S.” The mild climate, proximity to Mexico and diverse habitats, including 9,000-foot mountains and the magnificent San Pedro River Valley, make southeastern Arizona a major hot spot for rare and unusual species of birds.
