SPRING I 2015 - WEEK 5
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Every week we will interview two CESL students. If you are willing to be interviewed, talk to the student workers in the Student Learning Center. Name:
Ruizhi Zhang
Level: 60
From: China, city of Shang Yang (A small city in the South of China) How long have you been at CESL? I have been here for 8 months, which is crazy because it feels like yesterday, now I am almost done with CESL! What will you do after CESL? Hopefully go to the university and study maybe History or Economics. Why do you want to study history? I think history is fun to study, it is like one big story. And there are very cool stories about how maybe 1 sentence can change the world. ‌In China we have a funny story about how two world leaders may have gone to the bathroom at the same time and had a conversation that helped changed the world, so the joke is that going to the bathroom changed the world (sometimes history is changed by random things). Do you read a lot of books about history? Two years ago I read a lot but now I do not read many books, everything is on my computer and phone.

 Tyler Goodwillie
Technology is crazy! How do you think technology will change in the next 10 years? I think we will not need lap tops or phones anymore; we will only have one device like a watch that you wear that will do everything, or maybe a ring. Technology is always getting smaller. What do you like to do with your time? Play computer games, and listen to music. I would like to travel more but it is expensive. Why do you think everyone wants to travel? I think people like to change and experience something new. It is interesting how everyone thinks that the place away from their home is better. I used to think America was so special, and now that I live here I realize it is just normal. Best Chinese food in Tucson? Omie (restaurant). It is named after famous mountains in China. I know the owner so sometimes he gives me a discount! Describe yourself in one word: Nice CESL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

SPRING I 2015 - WEEK 5
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Name: Level:
Suhaib Noorwali 20
Hometown: Age:
Hi Suhaib, how are you today?
Makkah, Saudi Arabia 25
Very fine, thank you.
What is your major? I am an architecture engineer. I already got my bachelors in Saudi Arabia, I came here to study for my masters. What is architectural engineering? I design buildings. We study mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering. After my masters, I want to open my open business. After getting my masters, I will work for 3 years. After that I can open my own business. Why did you get interested in architectural engineering? I want to change how we design the buildings in our country. All the buildings in a city are very similar. Construction companies just take photos of buildings from the internet and change it just a little before building it. So I want to change this. Is this your first time to the USA? Yes. Before I came here, I thought American people would be angry and I could not communicate with them, but when I came I found them very nice. I love them. I thought they would not respect me because of my religion but it was very different than that.
Interviewed by Dj Nixon
Glad to hear that. What are some of your hobbies? In the past I played soccer, but now I like to watch movies. My favorite movies are action movies. I also like teenager movies, like moves in high school or college and maybe one group of girls make trouble for another group of girls. My favorite actor is Jason Statham. I also like to draw graffiti-style art. Alright, so I know you live with Osama, how is that? Good. I have lived with him for 2 years. We worked together for 1 year in a village, Thoule, and 1 year in Mekkah. We graduated together; we are both architectural engineers. Living together is good because we are understanding - I respect him and he respects me. We try to speak English all the time. We take vocabulary from movies we watch and write the words and put them on the wall so we can use these words. Great study tactic! So what is one of your future goals? I want to design my own home. I want to design it by myself and build it by myself. I already have designed a house for my friend. What is your most prized possession? I love my cell phone; I cant live without it. What is one word to describe yourself? “Achievement" If you could have any superpower which one would you choose? My super power would change people from the inside. I would make the mean people kind. Beautiful. CESL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
