Summer Session- Week 3
Ask CESL Why do we celebrate 4th of July? Also known as Independence Day, July 4th, 1776 is forever known as the day the 13 colonies declared independence from Great Britain. Written by Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration of Independence was legally in effect as of July 2nd but the Second Continental Congress didn’t vote on the decision until July 4th when it was finally approved. After a long struggle with Great Britain, the 13 colonies were finally free. The United States of America was born!
What is there to do on 4th of July?
Until the start of the show, you can head downtown to the Tucson Convention Center (TCC) parking lot for games, food and fun! Or you can enjoy a soccer game the Kino Sports Complex. The game starts at 7:30pm and tickets are $10 at the door (children 5 and under are free). Centennial Hall on campus will host a choir and orchestral performance of all our patriotic music from 3pm to 4:30pm. General seating is free and special seating is $20. Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch Resort is sponsoring Red, White and Brew event at 5501 N. Hacienda del Sol Road from 5pm to 9pm. Adults are $25 and children are $12.50. Special wristbands are needed for drinks. You can head down to 4th Avenue or Broadway and Congress for more local entertainment and specials on food and drinks! When the day is spent, look towards “A” Mountain and see the FIREWORKS shoot up and light up the sky around 9pm! 8
