STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Every week we will interview two CESL Students. If you are willing to be interviewed, talk to the Student Workers in the Student Learning Center
Name:
Osama Shikhin
Hometown:
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
How long have you been here in America? I have been here for only 1 month. What are your future plans? I plan to go to the University of Arizona for my Master’s degree and study project management; it is a type of engineering. Then after that I will go on to get my PhD. So you can call me Doctor Osama. Awesome! What do you like to do with your free time? I enjoy reading, I like reading political books. Things about people around the world, like Nelson Mandela. What are some things in Saudi Arabia you like to do? I like to spend time with my friends and go to the sea. And also drive fast, I really like cars. Why are you interested in Politics? I think the world works because of politics. Without politics and government there would not be good cities or countries. What did you think of the United States before you arrived? I thought that it would be more dangerous, like you could not walk around at night and things like that. Now that you are here what do you think about America? I think it is amazing. Now that I am here everything has changed from what I thought. The people are kind and respectful. I think this is a very important and good thing about America - that people respect and are nice to people even if they have different religions, or beliefs, or looks. What is one thing you would like to do in your lifetime? I want to change the community for the better! And leave a good place for future children to live.

Hi Sarah, how long have you been here in Arizona? Since October, it's boring here! What! What do you do in Kuwait that is so exciting? I just sleep, I love sleeping. Haha, okay - how many pillows do you have on your bed? Just two. What is your major? I'm not really sure but engineering. I want to study here in America after CESL, but maybe college in San Diego. Cool, what did you do over winter break? I went to Sedona with my friends from Egypt, Jordan, Iran, & Kuwait. We went to the mountains and took pictures. It was very beautiful. Nice, what else did you do? I watched 2 seasons of Breaking Bad. It was amazing,.. I love Jesse from the show. I keep hearing good things about this show..What are your goals this semester? Study hard and get up to level 60.
Interviewed by: DJ Nixon
What do you miss most about Kuwait aside from your family? Machboos a traditional Kuwaiti dish with rice and curried chicken, it is so delicious and there is no where in Tucson to get Kuwaiti food. Yum! What is something that surprised you about American culture? Here I have seen a lot of people in wheelchairs and people here seem to really respect them. There are lots and lots of buttons to open doors for them and places for them. People here are really nice. CESL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
