Student Spotlight! CESL student worker Nwaf sat down with a CESL student to ask him some questions. Name: Dhari AlMutairi Level: 4 Hometown: Kuwait City, Kuwait
Major: Environmental Engineering Interviewed by: Nwaf Alghamdi
What do you like about your hometown? I like the people and the food. I also like to go camping outside the city. Why are you seeking an environmental engineering major? Because I was studying this major as my bachelor’s degree. Why did you pick your major? I’m passionate about the environment. I used to volunteer back in Kuwait with groups educating people. I want to start an environmental organization one day in Kuwait. What are your future plans? I’m starting school in Spring 2018 at Ohio State University to study Environmental Engineering. What do you like to do here in Tucson? I like going to Mt. Lemmon and camping with friends—my friend Hussain (level 2) is a great chef. What are you going to miss here in Tucson when you leave for Ohio? I’m going to miss the food and my friends here. I’m also going to miss the warm weather because it is cold in Ohio.
Dhari & Nwaf
Have you been to Ohio before? Where did you travel outside of Arizona? Yes, I have visited Ohio before. I’ve been to 8 states: Texas, New Mexico, California, D.C., Maryland, New York, Delaware, and Ohio. What was your favorite place that you have visited? Washington D.C. I liked the White House.
Thanks, Dhari!

Student Spotlight! CESL student worker Hady sat down with a CESL student to ask him some questions. Name: Ammar Alrhele Level: 1 Hometown: Medina, Saudi Arabia
Major: Law Interviewed by: Hady Mambo
Why are you seeking a law major? I am seeking this major because I like laws. Laws are what rule us and keep us organized. Because I like to follow the rules I decided to study and have a job where I would do that and help others do it, too. How far are you in your studies? I am a graduate student; I will be doing my Masters after finishing my English studies. What do you like the most in your city? My city is the city that has the Big Mosque in my country and that is what I like the most. What do you usually do for fun? I play sports such as soccer and volleyball. What is the most traditional food in your hometown, and can you cook it? Kabsa is the most traditional food in my hometown. Yes I can. I have cooked this food several times here.
Ammar & Hady
What has been your strategy to learn fast and improve your English? I often hang out with people from different countries, who do not speak the same language as me, so we can talk in English and therefore I practice and learn English faster. For me, it is about talking to people outside of CESL that makes me improve my English. What do you find most challenging about living abroad? Learning the language and having to adapt to a new culture. And to finish, what advice would you give to other students at CESL and others who want to come study here, so they succeed in their classes and learn English? The first piece of advice I would give is to try their best to Speak English and also be honest with themselves when they do not know something so people (the teachers particularly) can teach them. CESL is a great place to learn English and it has amazing teachers.
