Patagonia Lake State Park Last Saturday, Nwaf took two students to Patagonia Lake State Park to get out on the water. The students got to go on a hike around the lake and rented a row boat to tour the water. It looks like they had a relaxing day in southern Arizona!

Student Spotlight! CESL student worker Hady sat down with a CESL student to ask her some questions. Name: Sarah Shammoh Hometown: Kuwait City, Kuwait
Level: 7 Interviewed by: Hady Mambo
To start, tell us a little bit about who Sarah Shammoh is. Sure. Sarah Shammoh is my name. I am from Kuwait—born and raised there. I have two siblings and I am the youngest. I do not eat fast food; I like to exercise, and have a license to dive in open spaces (ocean). I have played the violin for four years and I love music. Is this your first time in the US? No, it is not. I have been coming to the US during the summer breaks since I was 9-years old. However, it is my first time in Tucson and I am loving living here. I do not want to leave. Wow, that is amazing. Does it mean that you will be going to the UofA? Yes, that is what I am aiming for and will do eventually. How different is Tucson from your home city? It is different in many ways. My city is like an economic city and I would say it is more crowded than Tucson. What is the first thing that comes to mind when asked about your city? Coffee shops. They are used as gathering and leisure places —especially by young people. Nevertheless, I am not a coffee person.
Sarah & Hady
That is surprising. Why is that? First because I exercise, and I know that coffee can be bad for my health. Secondly, I do not like caffeine. A fact that many people do not know is that there is research that says that an apple gives you more energy than a mug of coffee. I am an athlete and athletes do not drink coffee.
I see that you know a bit about nutrition. Is that what you want to study? Yes, I want to be a holistic nutritionist. I am passionate about nutrition and I already know a lot about it. I have read lots of books related to that and have applied some studies in my life. That is my passion and what I want to work with in the near future. What’s the best thing that happened to you since you started studying at CESL? I gained more self-confidence and have learned to talk to people and how to keep up a conversation. Thank you, Sarah, and good luck in your studies!

Student Spotlight! CESL student worker Haibo sat down with a CESL student to ask him some questions. Name: Ushio Hometown: Osaka, Japan
Level: 4 Interviewed by: Haibo Sun
Tell me something about your hometown. Yakisoba (noodle), okonomiyaki (type of pancake), and takoyaki (fried bread stuffed with octopus) are well-known in my hometown. My favorite is takoyaki. What is your favorite food in Tucson? Tacos are my favorite food in Tucson, but I usually cook by myself at home—like some noodles with Japanese sauce. What is your favorite music or singer? I like EDM music very much, because it makes me excited. Tell me something about your last trip? I went to LA two weeks ago, and I went there to shop around and to visit Venice Beach. What is the place that you want to visit next? I am planning to go to Mexico this weekend. I am going to attend my company’s branch meeting. There are 3 branches in Mexico and I want to learn more about the manufacturing system. Do you have any plans for this winter break? I am going to go to New York with my friends. I will visit Niagara Falls and check out the Statue of Liberty.
Ushio & Haibo
Is there anywhere you want to see this Fall? I will go with CESL to the Grand Canyon, because it has an impressive landscape view and it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Can you teach me a saying in Japanese? I want to say “時は金なり” (toki wa kane-nari) to all students; which means time is valuable and that everyone should save their time and pursue their goals instead of wasting life. Thanks for the interview, Ushio!
