If you missed the memo Thursday, don’t forget to recognize the women in your lives today and every day!

Student Spotlight! CESL student worker Hady sat down with a CESL student to ask him some questions. Name: Ibrahem Jamjoun Hometown: Jeddah, Saudi Arabia Major: Aviation
Level: 7 Interviewed by: Hady Mambo
Hello Ibrahem, how are you? Are you a big fan of aviation, and is that why you want to be a pilot? Hello, Hady. Yes, you guessed right. I am a big fan of aviation. I chose it because I think it is cool and it is something I have always loved. The feeling of knowing that I will be working on something that I like is very good and that is what drives me to pursue this major. How different is studying in your country vs the US? Although the goal in both places is to be educated, I think the education systems are quite different and American culture accounts a lot for it being good. In general terms, I would say that here is Ibrahem & Hady better. It is different in terms of expectations from professors, behavior in class, and its structure. For instance, here I have a very close relationship in the classroom with my professors and that is something that does not happen very often in my culture, because professors are almost seen as parents there. What is one thing in particular you would like to see in your country in terms of education that you see here? The teaching of English language, because I believe that learning English in schools would be a good opportunity for people who cannot afford to travel to English-speaking countries to learn it. It would increase everyone’s chances of being hired once they finish their studies. 5

SPRING 1, 2018 - WEEK 8
Is it your first time living abroad? How different is living in the US from Saudi Arabia? First of all, the past few months I have grown up a lot. I gained more responsibility. I am more self-aware and aware of my surroundings and it is the major difference between being here and being at home living with my parents. Here I do my own chores, pay my own bills, and all those responsibilities of being a young person living by myself. With regards to dealing with other people, did you know any English before coming here and how has it been out in the streets and CESL in particular? It has been nice. I knew English before coming, but it wasn’t perfect yet. That’s why I am here at CESL. I have never encountered any difficulties in the streets talking to people whatsoever. Have you participated in activities or clubs at CESL? How about any suggestions for future clubs or activities? I have participated in all the clubs and activities I can, and they are all great. Yes, there is one activity I would like to suggest and that is going to play paintball.
Ibrahem & Hady (this time with glasses)
Believe it or not, paintball is already confirmed for Spring II and we will be going on April 7th! I am very glad to learn that! I might be the first person to sign up once I see the posters and registration is open.
Since you have never lived alone, do you know how to cook or is eating out the only option for now? Fortunately, I know how to cook enough to not always eat out or starve. *laughing* Very nice, Ibrahem. Since you know how to cook, here is a million dollar question: do you know how to cook kabsa? Well, it looks like I just lost a million dollars. No, unfortunately I do not know how to cook kabsa (yet). But I can learn if the offer is still on the table in a few months. *laughing* Well, the only thing I can promise for now is that you keep studying hard and get ready for finals, you will get very good grades! Thank you for your time and good luck on your finals, Ibrahem! 6
