There’s Snowplace Like Mt. Lemmon At frost glance, there is snow denying that Mt. Lemmon was the place to be last Saturday, as our bundled bunch of CESLians braved the cool temperatures and were rewarded with snowfall during the trip. Many students took the ski lift up to the top of ski valley and had the opportunity to view Tucson from a new vantage point. Check out more pics from their adventures on the next page.

Student Spotlight! CESL student worker Haibo sat down with a CESL student to ask him some questions. Name: Has Li Hometown: Chengdu, China
Level: 6 Interviewed by: Haibo Sun
Tell me something about yourself. Hi everyone, I am from Sichuan Province in China, I like spicy food, and I like to watch cartoons and play video games. What is your favorite cartoon? My favorite anime is One Piece, because each character has a distinctive personality. Why is anime so important to you? Because I started to watch it in primary school and it helps me relax and helped me to learn some good spirit from the characters. Why did you decide to study in the US instead of your home country? My parents wanted me to study in the US for the well-known education system, so I came here to improve my capability and English. I would like to study at U of A after CESL, because it has a long history of academic excellence and it is a perfect place to study.
Haibo & Hao What major do you want to study? I would like to study Computer Science, because I will have more chances to get a job after graduation. Do you have any things that you want to do in the future? Yes, I want to go to Japan because I like Japanese culture and I really want to go there to explore more about Japan. I also want to try the local Japanese sushi. What are you going to do after graduation? I want to go back to China, because I want to live closer to my parents and friends.
Thanks, Hao!

Student Spotlight! CESL student worker Hady sat down with a CESL student to ask her some questions. Name: Khawlah Alarfaj Hometown: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Level: 7 Interviewed by: Hady Mambo
Hello Khawlah. I would like to ask you some questions. Have you ever lived abroad before coming to the US? Hello Hady, No, I haven’t. It is my first time being away from home. How did you end up here in Tucson? Well, it is a funny story with a lot of coincidences. It was only after I came to CESL that I learned that my parents had studied here about 25 years ago. My husband is doing his Masters at the U of A and he was the one who brought me here to study English and eventually go to the university. Since this is your first time living abroad, how has your life changed? I would say it changed for the better. I am enjoying it here and nothing is difficult. Besides being with my husband, I also have all my sisters here in Tucson. I like the city; the weather is very similar to my country and that helps a lot. How many brothers and sisters do you have? I have two younger brothers and two older sisters. I am in the middle. Are you planning on attending the U of A after CESL? Yes, I am. I would like to get my Masters in Accounting. What food could you literally eat everyday and why? I could eat shawarma everyday. It is a dish from Turkey. Not many people are able to make this dish, but I enjoy it very much. What do you think about the activities here, and would you recommend CESL to others? I like the clubs, especially Conversation Club, Table Talk, and Music Club. I like that students from the university come to talk with us. This helps improve our English. Yes, I would definitely recommend CESL to others. Actually, I already told my brother to come study here and he is coming in the summer! Thanks, Khawlah!
