Eduardo, Rafael, Michelle, Jeremy, and Dina at the food bank.

Volunteers Meet Goal at Food Bank Last Saturday, Volunteer Club sent five people to help gather food items for the food bank. Our five volunteers teamed with twenty others to make 2,160 donation bags, easily surpassing their goal of 1,920 bags. That is called efficiency, folks. Not only did this group get to spend their morning helping families in need, but they also look like they had a great time doing it. Awesome job guys! Check out some more pictures on the next page.

ASK CESL!
Question: What is the Closing Ceremony? Answer: At the end of every semester and summer, CESL has a ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of our wonderful students. You can enjoy fun and fellowship with teachers, students, and staff, and honor specific students, teachers, and staff for their hard work. This Friday, the ceremony will be held at Hotel Tucson City Center downtown. Join us for dinner, a ceremony, speeches, and dancing, with DJing by our awesome student workers and students! There is also a photo booth, so you can take pictures with your friends and classmates. You don’t want to miss it! The closing ceremony is this Friday, May 12th from 5:00-10:00pm. Van rides will be provided from CESL at 4:30 and 5:15pm.This is a classy event, so make sure to dress fancy and come ready to dance!

SPRING 2, 2017 - WEEK 8

Student Spotlight! CESL student worker Logan sat down with a CESL student to ask him some questions. Name: Yilin Chen

Level: 5

Major: Business Administration

Nickname: Charles

Hometown: Harbin, China

Interviewed by: Logan Mutz

Hey, Charles. How are finals going? Good, yeah. I just finished one. But I don’t know why the finals are at 8 and noon. So much time between. Maybe I will go sleep for an hour. Haha. Oh, I understand that. That’s a lot of time between tests. Can you tell me a little about Harbin? I’ve never heard of it! Sure, Harbin is in north China. It is big city—millions of people. It is very cold there in winter and is famous for its city made of ice. [shows picture of ice city] Whoa! That’s insane! I had no idea Harbin was so big. China is so big, I think of Shanghai and Beijing, you know? Yeah, it’s okay haha. When I thought of the U.S. I thought of New York and LA. Yeah, exactly. I understand. How did you start becoming interested in DJing? I just started listening to music. In China, I liked to listen to music, like EDM. Sweet! Who’s your favorite EDM artist? Oh, it’s very hard to choose. But I like David Guetta, Klaas, Hardwell, and Calvin Harris.

DJ Charles in his element

Did you go to any EDM clubs in China? In China, I have been to some of these clubs, I don’t know how many times, but I have been. In

America, no. Only DJ Mixx Club haha. That’s a good club to attend! Is it your favorite club? Of course! Of course. I look forward to it every week. Are you excited for the closing ceremony? What are you going to perform? Haha, yeah. I am excited. I am performing Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars. That will be awesome. You can also help us DJ during the ceremony, if you want. I don’t have any professional DJ skills, but hopefully I will some day. And you think the student workers do? Haha. Do you like any other kinds of music besides EDM? I love music. I think it really depends on myself and my mood, and the song I am listening to at that time. Whether it is hip hop, R&B, jazz, or something else. If I like it, I like it. Most of my music is EDM, but I just like strong rhythms. That’s a good way of thinking. Anything else you want to say? I would like to be a DJ. Music is hard to describe. Music has the power to get you to where you want to go. It’s…magic, I guess. Haha. I think you’re going to make it as a DJ. Thanks for the interview, Charles!

Cooking With CESL Each week, we feature one recipe from a current CESL student or employee. This week’s recipe is from CESL Teacher, Tahnee Bucher.

Brazilian Brigadeiros

What You’ll Need 1 can of sweetened condensed milk

3 tablespoons of sweetened chocolate powder

How to Make It 1) In a medium saucepan, combine the chocolate powder, butter, and condensed milk. 2) Cook over medium-low heat; stir vigorously. (Cook the mixture until it thickens enough to show the bottom of the pan during stirring. 3). Pour the mixture in a greased dish and let it cool to room temperature. Take small amounts of the mixture with a teaspoon and make 1 1/2-inch balls.

Sprinkles or sugar (to decorate)

4) Roll the balls over chocolate sprinkles or sugar to decorate. Hint: Grease your hands with margarine to make the balls easily.

1 tablespoon of butter

If the balls don’t hold shape, you did not cook long enough. Cook an additional five minutes, take a small sample and dip it in a glass with cold water. If you cooked long enough, this sample should hold its shape after cooling down. 6
