What do you do in your free time? I like to watch action and racing movies, and I like to drive around in my car. Who is your role model and why? My father because he was an officer and he had a lot of respect. I want that respect too. If you can have one super power, what would it be? I will make myself disappear so I can enter any place I want. What is a unique thing about America that you like so far? I like the diversity, I like to see people from all around the world in one place. What is one thing about you that makes you different than others. I’m friendly and I like to make everyone around me laugh and have a good time.

FALL I 2015 - WEEK 3
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Name: Level:
Faris Balbaid 5
Hometown:
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
You come from Jeddah, is it a big city? I think it’s the 2 largest city. I like my city and I like the sea and the beach near it. There’s a long beach with corral and lots of fish. You can go down and see the fish swimming around. I’ve done it before. My family always goes and we do many things there like swimming. nd
Sounds refreshing, any hobbies? I’m into cars—modified, repairs, engine, transmission, etc. In the past I would sometimes race on the highway. But I don’t really do it now. I’m glad you didn’t get hurt, why did you stop? I am more interested in the engines of cars. Any favorites? My car is my favorite, of course, but I like all different engines. For example, I like American and German engines for horse power, efficiency, and then I also like Japanese cars. I have a Japanese car and I make my own modifications.
Interviewed by Sophia Gonzalez
You know quite a lot. Absolutely, it’s a hobby. My father is supporting me in my hope to one day have a garage with all of the tools to work on my own car. So, why did you come to the US? Only one reason. I came here for the cars. There’s no car industry in my hometown. I want to get a mechanical engineering degree and then one day hopefully work for GM or Ford if I get the chance. Do you have any last words for me? Thank you and nice meeting you Miss Sophia. CESL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
