FALL I 2015 - WEEK 7
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Every week we interview CESL students. If you are willing to be interviewed, talk to the Student Activities Assistants in the SLC (CESL 209).
Name:
Taqi Alghawi
Hometown: Al Qatif, Saudi Arabia
Why did you choose the University of Arizona? I applied to a few different universities. This is the first one that I heard back from and I heard it is one of the best ranked universities. What are you studying? I am planning to study chemical engineering. If you could have any job in the world, what would it be? I would want to own my own business and make more money. What do you like best about Tucson? There are two things I like about Tucson: the people here are very nice, and I don’t like cold weather. What do you miss most about your hometown? I miss my family, my friends, and the specific culture of my city.
Interviewed by Tanner Gregory
What are some things you hope to do while you're in Tucson? I want to get involved and be a part of the community. I want to find a way to volunteer to help improve the community. What do you tell your friends back home about living in the United States? It’s a big challenge between managing your time and doing so many things by yourself. Back home you are always spending your time with your family or friends, here you own your own time, and spend more time by yourself. What is one thing that CESL students should know about you? I always put myself up for a challenge and I don’t give up.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Name: Hometown: Level:
Zayed Alajmi Hadiyah, Kuwait 7
If you can choose to live a short and fulfilling life, or a long but boring life. Which one would you choose and why? A short fulfilling life because life is an opportunity and you can only live once. What was the scariest thing you have ever experienced? When I nearly drowned and almost died in our backyard pool. I had to go to the hospital because of this near-death experience. What is one thing that you can’t do without for a whole day? Playing FIFA; its because it became a daily habit in my free time. Studying is more important though. What makes your country different than America? Interviewed by Ahmad Alhindawi
The culture is the main difference—the laws are also different. I’ve realized that the manners change in a big way when I came here. What is your goal in life? My goal is to get my Bachelors in Geology and live a happy life.

FALL I 2015 - WEEK 7
Ask CESL Question: Why should I get involved with student activities at CESL? Answer: Ac#vi#es are a way to prac#ce your English. You’ll be speaking with students from a different country than you. The only language we all have in common is English! The ac#vi#es are a lot of fun. We like to go to Mt. Lemmon, sports games, theatre performances, art places, water parks, and many more locaCons. These acCviCes will make your Cme at CESL more memorable. They let you explore Tucson and learn about the USA. Tucson offers many unique experiences. All of the student workers plan trips so that we can all enjoy learning something new about Tucson and American culture together. Ac#vi#es help you get connected to other students and the community. One of the best parts of going to the acCviCes is that you can meet other students who have similar interests or think differently than you. Not only do we learn English from each other, but we also learn about life together. So, how to get signed up: Go to cesl.arizona.edu/ac#vi#es to see which acCviCes are happening on the weekend. See you at the next one!
