SPRING II 2015 - WEEK 7
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Every week we will interview two CESL students. If you are willing to be interviewed, talk to the student activities assistants in the SLC (CESL 209).
Name:
Osvaldo Bambi
Hometown:
Huambo, Angola
Age:
19
Level:
Bridge
What do you hope to study at the University since you’re in bridge now? Geophysics in order to do research in oil. Alright, so how long have you been in the U.S.? I have been here for about 9 months. Wow, and you’re already in the bridge program? Did you take a lot of English classes while in high school in Angola? No, not really. English would be mixed into classes so the teacher would try to speak in English, but if we did not understand they would switch to Portuguese. Oh, okay, that’s awesome. What do you think helped you the most in your studies?
Interviewed by Ann Turinawe
Tucson. There is not a lot to do here so you are forced to study. Ha ha, I have heard that a lot. Which cities in the U.S. do you like better? I have been to New York City and Colorado. I liked New York better because there was more to do. Do have any hobbies to pass the time in Tucson? Yeah, I like playing soccer, kickboxing, and music. I like music the best though. It is my happy place. What do you think is the major difference between Tucson and your hometown in Angola? Tucson is really individualistic, but at home, you are surrounded by other people. Last question: What is something you would want CESL to know about you? I am an open book.

SPRING II 2015 - WEEK 7
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT! Name:
Moby
Level:
55
From:
Jaberalali, Kuwait
Moby, we have saved the best interview for last! How do you feel about this? Confident and proud. And guess what? I knew I would be last, because I am the best! I'm the ceremony guy! Where did you get your skills and all your gentlemanly habits? Gentleman!? Naturally. I did bad in high school; I was sooo wild. I am so much more mature now. But I'm dangerous... I bite! Also my dancing skills come from my soul and mind and everything. "So British?" You're always saying it and the people want to know: What does it mean? Well, when I see something weird and a little freak, I say this, because British defines the word 'weird.' What will you do over summer? I'll go back to Kuwait for three months - sit, back, relax, make beats and make rap songs and go to Jeddah to eat from Albaik restaurant. I'll return to CESL in August with a brand new look; everything will be different, but I will still act like this. **mimics penguin** Moby, why didn't you ever attend any of our awesome activities? I am a cheap guy! I went to the court wearing crocs and shorts. The judge was upset and yelled at me, but I told him, “How can you be mad at me, I'm so cute!” What's your major? Media and mass communication. I want to make movies. I preformed standup comedy in Kuwait last year, but I curse a lot, so people were upset. What do you want to say to your haters? Flush the toilet and move on! Simple. What about your fans? What do you wanna say to them? Believe in yourself and in Moby, and you will succeed. Why should your peers attend CESL's closing ceremony? I will be performing there. You must attend! I will do some magic and acting, though only five minutes because of Mr. Jeremy, who says I was one of the best hosts we have ever had.
Interviewed by DJ Nixon
Stay tuned people, because something is coming: “The rise and fall of Moby!”

SPRING II 2015 - WEEK 7
Ask CESL Question: I don’t like my schedule. I have too many breaks and it is too long. Can CESL change the schedule in the future? Answer: CESL uses its rooms, and other university rooms, in the best way possible every session. In the summer, CESL will try a new schedule in the Intensive English Program (IEP) called a “block” schedule. In a block schedule, most students will have all of their classes together in either the morning or the afternoon for just ½ of the day. The blocks will be 8:00 am to 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm to 5:40 pm. This will mean many classes back-to-back, but also that students have more of their day free to study or practice their English outside of CESL!
