Legal issues Data protection (Data must not be disclosed to other parties without the consent of the individual whom it is about, unless there is legislation or other overriding legitimate reason to share the information (for example, the prevention or detection of crime). It is an offence for Other Parties to obtain this personal data without authorisation. )
The data protection act 1998 which is a law that is set in the UK which a business or organisation has to comply with and this means that customers information is safe and cannot be used without the persons consent unless the business or organisation has a legislation or any other reason to over right this law. It shows in the screenshot above that the data which is being used of the customers and the reason for the customers data to be held by the company is to use the information they have for reasons such as membership data, the products surveys and the marketing and it’s only to a certain extent of not showing a lot of personal information.

Fortunately at Mercedes Benz the company has not gone through any problems which includes loosing customer data due to their company having a strong software protecting them and the business from anyone hacking into it.
Unfortunately most business and organisations are not as strong enough of the Mercedes Benz Company such as Sony regarding to its PlayStation online services on the PlayStation 3, the companies online services were hacked by a group and once this accrued the whole service shutdown and Sony wrote to customers and went public about data of customers such as credit cards, telephone numbers and even addresses of their customers. This caused a large problem for the company Sony because customers became to see Sony as a unreliable company to don business with because this type of thing has accrued twice in the past 2 to 4 years, and so causing customers to become more hesitant from actually buying from their sites and entering customers information on their due to these problems happening.

Computer misuse What is computer misuse? (Unauthorised access to computer material, punishable by 6 months ‘imprisonment or a fine Unauthorised access with intent to commit or facilitate commission of further offences, punishable by 6 months/maximum fine Unauthorised modification of computer material, subject to the same sentences as section 2)
The computer misuse act is put in place and designed to make sure that the users on the computers are protected by the organisation or business to make sure that no one can enter their personal information and it being stolen. It also protects the business and organisation from getting any viruses onto their system through these different techniques
Cesur Ahsak 20261967
including hacking. Furthermore it stops unauthorised people to access their computers with the intent to commit offences which is punishable by a 6 months and a maximum fine. By carrying out some research I have found that Mercedes Benz hasn’t come under the computer misuse act, this shows us that Mercedes Benz is very well protected from these different thieves and hackers in place trying to gain access into the business itself. And also they have their employees under constant watch to make sure that they are not doing something which isn’t work related. On the other hand the company known as BBC. Yes the BBC a lot of people have been caught off guard when referring to this company and the law they have broken is the computer misuse act. What have they done? You may ask, well the BBC have hacked into 22,000 PC’s without even gaining the users consent on the access of the PC’s and due to these computers being hacked by the BBC it basically caused those Pc’s to become botnets what this means without the owners knowledge their computers being hacked opened the doors to others and to send them spam for instance. This caused a very bad reputation for the BBC and a lot of people began to not trust this company.
Freedom of information (The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) gives a general right of public access to all types of 'recorded' information held by public authorities, sets out exemptions from that general right, and places a number of obligations on public authorities.)
What the freedom of information act is based on is that this law gives you the people the permission to access all types of recorded information from the government or any other public authority. It also puts on a lot of obligations on the public authorities. After some research hi have found that Mercedes Benz has made an appeal for the freedom of information and what the information was based on is the delivery of their products
Cesur Ahsak 20261967
which were being brought in by cargo ships and they requested the police to make sure that all their products were accounted for and no problems are visible or have occurred. The letter which was sent shows the information on how many products are being taken over and how many there are in the cargo ships, it also has the models of the products as well to make sure that they know which ones must be accounted for and how many there are of that model. This makes it easier for the police and the company because it’ll be easier to account all there products and it’ll be quicker.
From this screen shot we can see that this information has been approved to been seen by the public and this is beneficial in a way because if Mercedes Benz had lost on of their products whilst it was in the police’s care they can use this against them and the public can be used as witnesses to this.
Ethical issues Ethical issues is the morals of the business, for example it’s the evaluation of what is right and wrong within the business itself and how the business or organisation itself is setting out to correct those issues.
Emails: emails are used over the web, emails are commonly used by businesses or organisations or even just people in general. For example in Mercedes Benz the use of emails allows people to send information and messages to people in a much quicker and simpler method instead of waiting to get the person in a right time with a phone call. For example an employer at Mercedes Benz can
Cesur Ahsak 20261967
email the presentation for the next meeting to one of his employees so they are notified as well.
The internet: the internet also known as the worldwide web is literally a melting pot for all people around the world where websites are being created everyday giving information to people based on the topic they are searching for let it be for business or gaming and even communicating with people the list goes on. For example Mercedes Benz can use the internet to connect to their customers and people via social media which allows them to contact and interact with millions of people. The term commonly used as “the world in the palm of your hands is sometimes referred to this.
Whistle-blower: the term whistle-blower is used for someone who is a part of an organisation or business and points out a wrong doing which is being done by the organisation itself. Whistle-blowers usually happen when the organisation is doing something wrong against their employees or is consulting in something illegal for example, in a organisation which can be any organisation for example Mercedes Benz and as an employee working in the fraud department you have seen that your organisation has been carrying out deals which are foreseen as fraud and once you have seen this and have the evidence, contacting the government or police and notifying them on the situation and once this has happened they come into action and make sure its taken care of. But in spite of all this your confidentiality is never put out there so no one knows who the whistle-blower was and this stops you from loosing you job.
Organisational policies and code of practice The term organisational polices and code of practice means: this is the rule so to say that the organisation itself has to comply and follow. The code of conducts or code of practice differs between all the different organisations, these policies and codes are set out and aimed to influence the organisations behaviour by putting out the values, standards which the business or organisation which they wish to be met. The business and organisations not only expect employees to follow but the other stakeholders as well.
Cesur Ahsak 20261967
The code that the organisation Daimler follows and Mercedes Benz being a branch owned by that organisation follows the same principals of the code that must be followed. These codes are as follows:
To respect and protection of human rights Compliance with laws and internal regulations Appropriate conduct within the group and in dealings with government officials, business partners and customers Dealing with conflicts of interest Prevention of all forms of corruption Protection of company assets Principle of social responsibility
As we can see from the list of codes/policies the company Mercedes Benz follows shows us that they are following the laws and the rights which have been set by the government, this also shows us the readers and general public that they are very strict with following the rules because the company itself agrees in equal rights and to treat a person the way they deserve to be this is because its normal human rights and it keeps the company looking clean and respected due to its rules they have set and are following.
Finally Mercedes Benz covers its ethical issues in its code of policies as well, the company believes in treating everyone equally and making sure that each and every person gets the privilege they deserve. Because they don’t judge the person by their background or whatever they look at the person’s skills and what they are able to put into this company.
Policies and procedures There are different procedures that a business must follow and there are some procedures and aspects of the business that must be used more than others due to these procedures playing a larger part with in the business. Security of information: what is security of information, security of information also known as SecInfo is the protection of information on a business or organisation. And the whole point is
Cesur Ahsak 20261967
so unauthorised personnel cannot access these files or information that the business is holding in their archives for example. Mercedes Benz requires this policy because Mercedes Benz is a large globally known business and they have information that they want to keep away from hackers or anyone in general who wants to take their personal business information. Furthermore its not just information on their products and business alone they also have information on their customers and the information is their personal information such as telephone numbers, addresses and even bank account numbers. This is why Mercedes Benz has to carry out these security additions to their business for their safety. But the security is always updated to make sure that the information isn’t taken and for the 7 days that it’s kept in their care no one can access that information but it can be kept for longer if the person’s permission is given. They aim to protect the information from being accessed by anyone and be damaged or lost because if any of these occur they’ll know that the reputation my go bust.
Back-ups: back-ups can mean 1 of which, a back up can be if something fails with in the business or an employee isn’t in then someone else or something else rather than the first part can be used instead. This is used for the term back up so you have something in reserve and ready to use. There is also the other meaning where if information is lost then it can be backed up if it was or is saved on a different folder, this can be used to ensure information is kept and not lost. Mercedes Benz doesn’t back up its data that often and if so it hasn’t been introduced or explained to the general public explaining the days and times they actually back up the data. But in an organisations case such as a bank e.g. HSBC they must backup their information pretty much every second because money is being entered in and being
Cesur Ahsak 20261967
taken out. So the organisation must make sure that if something occurs and causes them to lose this information they must be able to bring that information back in a very short time and get up and running because if not large problems can occur for the branch and the bank itself. Online banking has its own way of protection such as the https means that a strong connection has been made and protection of the business is in control now.
Health and safety: this is the policy of which how the business is operating, for example the business must be fitted and good enough for their employees to be working in and that all of there safeties are ensured and the working areas are clean and tidy to ensure the lowest amount of damage that can happen to employees or even customers. This is a policy Mercedes Benz carries out because they have staff members literally working hours on computers designing and researching plus communicating with customers via internet, and so giving them the right amount of a break so they don’t get injured or unhappy from the hours having to be worked on computers. And it’s not only the amount of break they receive also the way they work such as giving staff good computing chairs protecting them from back pains and making sure that the computers are a safe enough distant from them so they don’t get eye damaged or not having drinks near computers causing damage and loss to it. Organisational policies: these are the in somewhat the rules which the business has set for the employees and business to carry out as a whole. For example the health and safety that is a policy set by the business and the government to make sure safety is assured. The business must have different policies to make sure that everything is being run smoothly. At Mercedes Benz the different branches and even the business its self has policies set by the organisation itself to make sure everything with in Mercedes Benz is running smoothly and that there are no problems that can occur because these policies will make sure that the business is doing everything the correct way. Such as the policy regarding to how log each member of the team can spend on the computer and the amount of time they are entitled to get as a break.

Business continuance plans: this is the creation of strategies created by the organisation to take on any future or upcoming events that can become problematic for the business including natural disasters and issues. So by the business having continuance plans they’ll be able to prepare and be prepared. For Mercedes Benz having a continuance plan is very important because they can never know what the government may bring out as a new law effecting their industry or even what a competitor my bring out as a new product. Mercedes Benz as one of the biggest companies in that industry out there must be prepared for these types of events and react in the correct way.
Costs-additional resources needed and cost of development: this is where the money which the business goes to but not all the money just enough to buy some more resources and for development plus all the organisational issues and preparing for them. These are needed within a business because the company can never know on how much they need of a resources and the cost of development or the issues they may face in the future. So preparing with some more resources and cost of development allows the business to create these changes. In Mercedes Benz when it comes to getting additional resources, these resources are bought on the purpose of the amount being ordered because the company can give its normal amount to its franchise but if a extra amount of the product has been made the additional resources can be used to meet those needs. A business such as Mercedes Benz and the industry its in the money going towards development is very important and needed because the company has to always come up with new different and unique ideas because the industry needs this and the people want this so it may seem difficult but its being done as we speak.
