The CEZANNE Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment is a transformational, long-lasting and safe salon treatment that brings hair to its ideal, most beautiful condition without damaging or dangerous chemicals like formaldehyde, which can be found in other straightening or smoothing products.
CEZANNE Perfect Finish works on all hair types and is safe for both you and your client. CEZANNE Perfect Finish reduces frizz and delivers straighter, smoother, stronger, healthier, more manageable, exquisitely beautiful hair that lasts for months.
Depending on hair type, length and texture, the CEZANNE Perfect Finish Treatment can be completed in just around 1-½ to 2-½ hours, consistent with other smoothing treatments. And, because hair can be styled, washed or colored while at the salon, your clients leave with the fabulous hair they want.

The CEZANNE PERFECT FINISH KERATIN SMOOTHING TREATMENT is easy to use. Follow these simple steps and read the FAQ’s before you begin. See information below on Coloring when using this treatment. 1. Wash hair gently twice with Cezanne Clarifying Shampoo. If virgin or natural uncolored gray, see below.* Blow dry with a vent brush or your fingers until 100% dry. 2.
Shake product well and place approximately 2 ounces (60ml) into a nonmetallic bowl and add more as needed. Section hair. Starting at nape, apply the treatment on dry hair with applicator brush ¼” (6.35mm) distance from scalp to ½” (12.7mm) medium sections, massage into hair, comb through, and move to next section until application is complete. Comb through with fine tooth comb to insure complete coverage. Leave the treatment in the hair for 30 minutes. Do not put on a cap.
3. Do a quick, light rinse, about ten to twenty seconds, with warm water—do not use shampoo or conditioner. Very long, thick or coarse resistant hair may need a slightly longer rinse. DO NOT OVER RINSE. Turn down the water pressure during the rinse. Leave residue in hair—a little bit more than the “slip” you feel when doing a deep conditioning treatment. 4. Using blow dryer set on medium heat and high air flow, use a vent brush to remove excess water if dripping wet. Then section hair and use a round or paddle brush to get hair as smooth as possible. Make sure the hair is 100% dry. 4
5. Using flat iron heat setting of 380⁰-410⁰F (193⁰-210⁰C), take small sections and meticulously flat iron until hair is silky. If hair is extremely fragile or compromised, start at the lowest setting on your flat iron and gradually move the temperature up until the hair gets easily silky. Concentrate at the roots, taking just enough passes until the hair is SILKY. All hair is different and in some cases there may be a bit of extra residue left in the hair. If so and client desires, hair can be shampooed and conditioned at any time after the treatment, either in the salon or when the client gets home. 6. It is recommended that you give client a haircut or trim to refresh the ends for that “Perfect Finish.” 7. Client can wash hair any time, swim, go to the gym, or wear clips and ponytails. Some clients may notice a slight smell when their hair is wet, but this will disappear after a few washes. 8. To ensure proper maintenance, send client home with Cezanne Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner. The Perfect Finish Thermal Protectant Spray should be sent home with your clients to use every time they blow dry or flat iron their hair. Note: Since this product does not contain formaldehyde or other toxic ingredients, no mask is required. You may notice some vapor while blow drying and flat ironing, which is normal. This is primarily steam. Gloves are not required, but since the pH is about the same as lemon juice, you may want to wear them as the treatment may irritate abrasions on hands and cuticles if gloves are not worn. Product meets all stability standards. Color and texture may vary slightly by batch. 5
COLOR when using the Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment With Perfect Finish, some stylists color before and some color after. If you color after, you eliminate potential issues related to color lifting. Color can be refreshed at any time after service. If you color before treatment, Perfect Finish, like all smoothing treatments, may lift some color and make highlights appear brighter. Whether or not any color is lifted and how much color is lifted is a function of the particular hair type and condition as well as the type of color. It helps to reduce the heat on your blow dryer and flat iron during the treatment as excessive heat can also lift color. You can also color after treatment . This can be done same day or anytime thereafter. PLEASE READ FAQ’S FOR ADDITIONAL COLORING TIPS. *For virgin or uncolored gray hair: • It is helpful to mix ½ clarifying shampoo with ½ 20-volume cream developer instead of plain clarifying shampoo. Leave on hair for 3 minutes and repeat. • Make sure hair is 100% dry before applying the treatment. • Place the client under the dryer on low to medium heat during the 30 minutes the treatment is in the hair with the hair loosely clipped with a plastic clip if the hair is long, rotating the hair position every 10 minutes. Do not put a cap on the hair. 6
• Do a thorough blow dry, getting the hair as smooth as possible and follow up with meticulous flat ironing using very small sections until the hair is very silky. Increasing the temperature of the flat iron may be helpful in achieving the silky result, but as the stylist you need to make that decision based on the individual client.

The CEZANNE Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment FAQ’s “The Cezanne Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment is fantastic. I can reduce the amount of curl, eliminate frizz and NO formaldehyde. It’s a win, win, for the industry and our guests.”
Anthony DeFranco DeFranco Salon and Spa One of the “Best of the Best” top twenty salons in New York
The CEZANNE Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment is the answer for the stylist who wants to join some of the top beauty professionals in the world in delivering an amazing result to the client without being exposed to the health dangers of excessive formaldehyde usage. The CEZANNE Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment is the answer for the client who wants a long-lasting treatment that delivers straighter, smoother, frizz-free hair without formaldehyde or any other dangerous ingredients. What is the CEZANNE Perfect Finish Keratin (CPF) Smoothing Treatment?
The CEZANNE Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment (CPF) is a transformational, long-lasting and safe salon treatment that brings hair to its ideal, most beautiful condition without damaging or dangerous chemicals like formaldehyde, which can be found in other straightening or smoothing products.

What kind of results can my clients expect from CPF?
CPF will reduce frizz and deliver straighter, smoother, stronger, healthier, more manageable and exquisitely beautiful hair and will last for months. Your clients will love Perfect Finish. If my client was a previous user of a formaldehyde-based keratin smoothing treatment, will they be happy with CPF?
Yes. Clients get very similar results to their previous formaldehyde treatments without the health risks. Will a stylist who has used formaldehyde-based keratin smoothing products be happy with CPF?
Yes. Stylists have reported that they will never do another formaldehyde treatment again and find it a relief to have no more formaldehyde-related eye and respiratory irritations. Many stylists say it is easier, faster, safer and gives very similar results to formaldehyde-based formulas and will be their new flagship smoothing treatment. Although some stylists will continue to use formaldehyde-based formulas, increasing numbers of stylists and their clients are requesting an alternative to this toxic ingredient. How long will CPF last?
CPF will last for months. Similar to formaldehyde-based keratin smoothing treatments, the amount of time CPF will last varies by client hair type, hair texture, and maintenance routine. 9
I have had many clients that have had the Cezanne treatment last for months. What could be the reason why a treatment did not last as long as it should have on a particular client? The consistent reports are that CPF lasts longer than any other formaldehyde-free treatment and as long or longer than the formaldehyde treatments. Occasionally, but rarely, we do get a call like this. Here are some things that might have happened with the client who did not experience the same longevity as your other clients: 1. 2. 3.
4.
Coverage may not have been adequate. Be sure to comb through with fine tooth comb to insure complete coverage. Leave the treatment in the hair for 30 minutes. Over rinsing. You must leave residue in the hair, a little bit more than the “slip” you feel when doing a deep conditioning treatment.
One thing that may have occurred is a less-than-thorough blow dry. Do a meticulous blow dry, per the directions: “Using blow dryer set on medium heat and high air flow, use a vent brush to remove excess water if dripping wet. Then section hair and use a round or paddle brush to get hair as smooth as possible. Make sure the hair is 100% dry.”
Less than thorough flat ironing.
If you follow the directions for use carefully, your clients will report their satisfaction with the performance AND the longevity of Cezanne. 10
Does CPF give the same super straight results as a Japanese straightener or lye relaxer?
No. CPF will reduce frizz and deliver straighter, smoother, stronger, healthier, more manageable and exquisitely beautiful hair and will last for months. It is not a lye relaxer and it is not a Japanese straightener and will not deliver identical results. Are the results from CPF more like a Japanese straightener or more like a formaldehyde-based keratin smoothing treatment?
The results achieved with CPF are more like a formaldehyde-based keratin treatment, but without formaldehyde and the associated risks. I wear a mask when I do formaldehyde-based treatments and generally put a mask on my client or put a towel over their face for protection from the fumes. Do I need to do this with CPF?
No. You may see some vapor when you blow dry or flat iron, but this is primarily steam and does not contain any carcinogens. Is it any more difficult to apply than formaldehyde-based keratin treatments? No. Many stylists report it is easier and takes less time to apply. Do I need to wear gloves when doing CPF?
Gloves are not required, but since the pH is about the same as lemon juice, you may want to wear them as the treatment may irritate abrasions on hands and cuticles if gloves are not worn. 11
I had a client feel some tingling on her scalp during the time the CPF treatment was in her hair. What is this? The pH of the product is about the same as lemon juice and some clients might notice some tingling if they have sensitive skin or have abrasions on the scalp. Avoid aggressively scrubbing the scalp during the clarification and apply the product ¼” (6.35mm) from the scalp as per the instructions. During the rinse after treatment, concentrate on removing product from the scalp and the tingling should disappear.
Federal and State Government Agencies reference High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) in reporting related to formaldehyde. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has published methods for testing for formaldehyde including Method 8315A. Have tests like these been performed on CPF? Yes. One of the top testing labs in the United States performed the HPLC test on CPF and found no detectable formaldehyde.
Have formaldehyde vapor analysis tests been conducted in a salon setting consistent with test protocols of the National Institute of Safety and Health (NIOSH)? Yes. Samples were taken in salons while stylists were using CPF and these samples were tested by an accredited independent laboratory. There was no detectable formaldehyde. What are the active ingredients and how does it work?
Cezanne Perfect Finish’s proprietary formulation is comprised of a combination of ingredients including sericin, a component of silk. In silk, sericin acts as a cement between fibrous filaments and it acts in a similar fashion in the CPF treatment of human hair. 12
CPF contains keratin and gyoxyloylcarbocysteine, but unlike carbocysteine systems you may be familiar with, you won’t notice the unpleasant smell. CPF contains glycolic acid, which is well known as an effective exfoliant and moisturizer for the skin.
The CPF treatment uses a revolutionary low pH system with similar acidity to lemon juice to open up the cuticle to allow the infusion of a proprietary blend of keratin, botanical extracts and vitamins to enter through the cuticle to the cortex replacing lost and damaged protein mass. Because sericin bonds very effectively to the natural keratin in hair and acts as a cement between the strands of keratin proteins, it is able to lock hair into a smoother, straighter shape. When heat is applied during the flat iron process, the cuticle is closed and the proprietary blend of healthy ingredients is locked into the hair, protecting and smoothing the hair from the inside out.
What are the vitamins and botanical extracts that are being infused into the hair? Vitamins C, E, B3, B5 and B6; sugar cane, lemon, apple and green tea extracts. One of the ingredients is glycolic acid. Is this safe for the stylists and the client?
Glycolic acid is a popular anti-aging ingredient that has been used in the personal care industry for skin care for years. It enhances softness, protection and manageability. Â
What is sericin?
Sericin is a natural protein produced by the silk worm, Bombyx mori. It helps protect the hair. Because sericin bonds very effectively to the natural keratin in hair it acts as a cement between the strands of keratin proteins and is able to lock hair into a smoother, straighter shape. 13
How does CPF compare to the carbocysteine (amino acid) treatments that are currently available?
No comparison! If you have used some of these treatments, you know the odor. You don’t get that odor with CPF. Most carbocysteine products wash out very quickly, sometimes in just weeks. CPF delivers reduced frizz, straighter, smoother, stronger, healthier, more manageable and exquisitely beautiful hair and will last for months. Does CPF break the bonds like a perm, relaxer or reverse perm?
No. When you break down bonds of the hair the way perms and relaxers do, you are permanently restructuring the hair, which often leads to damage long-term, and you will see a line of demarcation until the treated hair grows out. With CPF there is no such line of demarcation and CPF will wash out over time. CPF improves the health and strength of the hair and does not break bonds like a perm, relaxer or reverse perm. I understand there are formaldehyde treatments and carbocysteine treatments. What is the Cezanne Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment?
Cezanne Professional Products has never sold a formaldehyde-based product and we never will. Our company was built with a single purpose: Develop the science to deliver a premium product line that features a long-lasting salon keratin smoothing treatment that will perform at least as well as the Brazilian type keratin treatments, but without damaging or dangerous chemicals – like formaldehyde. We know there is an existing group of products on the market today categorized as carbocysteines. They help to deliver smoother and more manageable hair for clients, without some of the dangerous chemicals. But, because of their formulations and how they work, they often don’t last very long, generally between two weeks and two months – and some have a very unpleasant odor when they are applied. Some require an extra masque or conditioning step and some require an extra rinse. 14
The Cezanne Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment is different. We are a nextgeneration smoothing system that uses the latest advances in science, along with only the finest ingredients, to create a product that delivers the results clients want from a keratin smoothing treatment, safely and effectively. And, because CPF works from the inside out in changing the overall health and shape of the curl, our results last longer. Does CPF contain carbocysteine?
Yes, our ingredient list does include carbocysteine but our process and technology is completely different than carbocysteine products that wash out quickly and have a strong odor. This is a next-generation treatment that uses new technology to deliver the results that clients want, without washing out quickly and without the unpleasant smell of traditional carbocysteine treatments. Cezanne Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment is devoid of the unpleasant odor you may be familiar with in performing carbocysteine treatments and produces a longer lasting result. Can you provide a “low tech explanation that I can give to my clients who want to know how CPF works compared to other treatments?
Yes. Unlike formaldehyde-based keratin systems that simply coat the hair, CPF uses a revolutionary low pH system with similar acidity to lemon juice to open up the cuticle to allow the infusion of a proprietary blend of keratin, botanical extracts and vitamins to enter through the cuticle to the cortex. When heat is applied during the flat iron process, the cuticle is closed and the proprietary blend of keratin, botanical extracts and vitamins are locked into the hair, protecting and smoothing the hair from the inside out.
15
Does it smell bad, give off fumes that make eyes tear up or cause breathing difficulty in the salon? No. There is nothing unpleasant about the salon experience for the stylist, client or anyone else in the salon. No mask or special ventilation is required.
If the directions are not followed and too much treatment is put on the hair or if the hair is not 100% dry before flat ironing, there could be some smell. This is not dangerous at all. Follow the directions for doing the light rinse, make sure the hair is 100% dry before you flat iron, and you should not have any odor issues. In some cases, not all, there may be a slight smell when the hair is wet after the treatment but this disappears after a few washes. To minimize this, be sure that the hair is thoroughly dried before flat ironing. Even though this will disappear after the first few washes, it can be minimized or eliminated if the hair is thoroughly blown dry and not air dried. Some clients who previously had formaldehyde-based smoothing treatments complained that their hair was flat and had no volume for a few weeks after the treatment and they were unable to curl it in any way. Is this the same with CPF?
Although CPF delivers very similar results to these treatments, it does not make the hair flat and still allows the client to put a bend in their hair and achieve voluminous results. How soon can the hair be washed and how soon before the client can use styling products, go to the gym, or wear ponytails or clips?
Unlike most smoothing treatments, with CPF the hair can be washed immediately and there are no restrictions to going to the gym, wearing ponytails or clips. Any styling product may be used immediately. 16
Is it safe for pregnant women and children?
Although CPF contains no formaldehyde or other carcinogens or dangerous chemicals, it is the Company’s policy not to recommend any products to pregnant women or children. If you are pregnant and elect to use the product or if you elect to use it on children, check with your physician first. How does CEZANNE Perfect Finish work on virgin hair?
Since virgin hair is generally extremely resistant to all treatments, here are some tips that may help (ONLY do this for virgin hair): • • • •
When washing the hair during the clarifying step, use half clarifying shampoo and half 20-volume cream developer. Let sit on hair for 3 minutes and repeat. Make sure hair is 100% dry before applying the treatment.
Place the client under the dryer on low to medium heat during the 30 minutes the treatment is in the hair with the hair loosely clipped with a plastic clip if the hair is long, rotating the hair position every 10 minutes. Do not put a cap on the hair. Do a thorough blow dry, getting the hair as smooth as possible and follow up with meticulous flat ironing using very small sections until the hair is very silky. Increasing the temperature of the flat iron may be helpful in achieving the silky result, but as the stylist you need to make that decision based on the individual client.
Can I use CPF on all hair types?
Yes. CPF can be used on any hair type and texture, no matter how colored, bleached, highlighted or damaged, and even over other chemical treatments such as Japanese straighteners and relaxers. 17
I read that CPF works on all hair types and textures. Does this include African American hair? Yes, CPF works great on African American hair and can be applied directly over relaxed hair.
For women who are natural or transitioning, CPF will reduce the bulk, soften the hair, and define the curls. CPF will reduce frizz and deliver straighter, smoother, stronger, healthier, more manageable and exquisitely beautiful hair and will last for months. It is not a lye relaxer and it is not a Japanese straightener and will not deliver identical results. Many existing formaldehyde-based keratin treatments cause damage to hair after repeated use over time. Is this the same with CPF? Not at all. CPF strengthens your client’s hair and stylists and clients are reporting improved hair texture after using this treatment. How long does it take to do CPF and how much should be charged?
Depending on the hair type, texture and length, it should take you about as long as other smoothing treatments, generally anywhere from about 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours. You should charge the same amount you charge for other smoothing treatments in your salon. How much product will be used per treatment?
The “average” head of hair will take about 2 ounces (60ml). Depending on hair type, texture and length, the amount used may vary. Always start with the minimum amount of 1-2 ounces (30-60ml) in the bowl to avoid waste and add more if needed. Do not 18
use more product than you need. If you see excess product on your comb as you comb the treatment through each section, you are using too much product. I recently used the Cezanne Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment and the color and texture of the product coming out of the treatment bottle was slightly different than last time. Does this matter?
No problem at all. Sometimes there will be a slight color and texture change over time or by the batch you receive. It may even appear a bit lumpy but this is just the nature of the aloe vera when combined with our low pH small molecule technology. This is not a problem and does not impact performance. Remember to shake well before using. How important is it to completely saturate the ends of the hair with CPF during the application? It is very important that all the hair is completely covered, especially the ends which tend to be the driest and most porous in hair that has been previously processed with other chemical treatments.
If I increase heat and take extra passes with the flat iron, I get even better results. Is this okay to do? The stylist needs to use good judgment with respect to heat on any client at any time. While increased heat and more passes may yield a sleeker, shinier result, the stylist needs to be sensitive to the health of the client’s hair. Increased heat may also impact lifting of color.
19
Can CPF be used on Hair Extensions?
Yes, if they are human hair and as long as the bond is avoided during flat ironing. If a client has blonde or white hair and you notice some yellow in the hair after flat ironing, why did this happen and how can it be avoided?
There is nothing in the product itself to turn the hair yellow, but blonde or white hair has been known to turn yellow for a variety of reasons. This could occur during the treatment and it may be outside your control. Causes could include type of color or treatments that are already in the client’s hair, type of water, medication—even an aspirin can affect hair color!
Another thing that can cause a problem is a flat iron that is too hot for delicate white or blonde hair. If you are addressing this issue, try starting at a very low temperature, even lower than the recommended 380⁰F (193⁰C). Remember the goal is to get the hair silky. Simply adjust the temperature only to the point where the hair gets easily silky. You should not have to do a lot of passes, generally 2-4, sometimes more for resistant hair. If you see the hair getting yellow, STOP and turn the temperature down. DO NOT over flat iron the hair. Silky is the key word. Once it’s silky there is no reason to continue to flat iron. Remember, you can always adjust color after the service if you wish. Another tip from stylists with whom we discussed your question is that blue/violet based shampoo can reduce/eliminate yellowing.
If a stylist accidentally forgets to do the light rinse of the CPF treatment after the 30 minutes with the treatment in the hair, and does the blow dry and flat ironing with all the treatment still in the client’s hair, will that be a problem? Although this is not recommended, if you missed this step, don’t worry. The client will be fine and there will be no damage to the hair. What could occur is that it may take 20
you more time to 100% blow dry the hair, the hair will feel heavier, and the flat ironing may take longer without getting as quite a silky or shiny result as you may want. You will also experience more steam during the blow dry and flat iron. Just continue the treatment as you usually would, then add one step—simply wash your client’s hair after the service with the Cezanne Moisturizing Shampoo and Moisturizing Conditioner and style as desired. All fixed! I’ve done several CPF treatments with excellent results. While I was doing the blow dry on one particular client the hair felt “gummy” and hard to comb and the blow dry process was slower and more difficult than usual. Any idea what happened and will this be a problem for my client? This will not be a problem for the client and “yes,” we probably know what happened. Most likely you applied too much product during the application and consequently didn’t rinse quite enough. The instructions say “a quick light rinse, about 10-20 seconds,” but “very long, thick or coarse resistant hair may need a longer rinse.” Our guess is that you just left too much product in the hair. If the hair is not smooth and silky after you flat iron, but instead has a “gummy” or particularly heavy feel to it, simply wash your client’s hair after the service with the Cezanne Moisturizing Shampoo and Moisturizing Conditioner and style as desired. All fixed! Next time, do the quick light rinse, about 10-20 seconds but for very long, thick or coarse hair, do a longer rinse.
How do I know if I have rinsed enough product out of the hair before the final blow dry and flat iron?
During the rinse, it is important to keep the water pressure down. Start first at the scalp. As the warm water runs through the hair, you are gently rinsing out the product. Leave some residue in the hair—a little bit more residue than the “slip” you feel when doing a deep conditioning treatment. You will get used to this very quickly. Leaving 21
too much product in the hair will not impact the end result, but it will be harder on you and will take you longer to get the hair 100% dry during the blow dry. No harm done if you leave too much in, but your client may want to wash it if it feels heavy and all will be fine. My client has fine hair and when I was finished, the hair felt heavy and “lifeless.” What happened and what can I do?
You may have used more product than you needed during the application or didn’t rinse enough. Leaving too much residue in the hair weighs it down and can reduce the silkiness and shine you should get during the flat iron portion of the treatment. Remember not to over flat iron and only do as many passes as you need to get the hair silky. If you did leave too much product in the hair, you or the client always have the option to wash at any time after the service. Can CPF lift color?
As with all smoothing treatments, there is a potential to lift color. Whether or not any color is lifted and how much color is lifted is a function of the particular hair type and condition as well as the type of color and the temperature of the blow dryer and/or flat iron. When coloring before the treatment, what some stylists do with our treatment as well as with other keratin treatments is to adjust the level of the color to allow for any lift that may occur. If your client has pink, blue, green, yellow or any other bright unnatural colors, there may be a greater tendency for lift. If you color after the treatment, you eliminate the issues related to lifting color. If color is lifted, can touchups be done after the treatment? Yes.
22
When should color be done?
Color can be done before or after the treatment.
If color is done after the treatment, you eliminate issues of lifting color. If the hair has only a slight residue on it after the flat ironing is completed, you can immediately proceed to coloring. If there is a lot of residue in the hair after the flat iron, you may rinse the hair, towel dry thoroughly and apply the color directly to damp or dry hair. What is the best way to get coverage over resistant gray hair when I am coloring after the Perfect Finish service?
If the hair has only a slight residue on it after the flat ironing is completed, you can immediately proceed to coloring. If there is a lot of residue in the hair after the flat iron, you may rinse the hair, towel dry thoroughly and apply the color directly to damp or dry hair. If the hair is particularly resistant, you may want to leave the color on a bit longer than usual. What should I recommend to a client who likes to swim in the ocean or a chlorine pool?
Unlike some other products, with Cezanne you can swim immediately after treatment. Chlorine and salt water can dry hair, so you might want to recommend that your client applies a good amount of the Cezanne Leave-in Crème Conditioner before getting in and a warm rinse immediately after.
