THE L ATEST HAPPENINGS AND EVENTS WITH CFM C E L E B R AT I N G I N T E R N AT I O N A L W O M E N ’ S D AY 8 March 2017 | Cheras, Kuala Lumpur In conjunction with the Women’s International Day, CFM marked this auspicious day with a special fitness session involving 75 ladies and organised by Eni Aerodance at Dewan Taman Syah Jaya, Jalan Cheras. CFM set up a booth at the event to provide information, in between the activities on how to lodge a complaint with CFM if they have issues with their respective service providers.

SAFEGUARDING CONSUMER SAFET Y DOWN SOUTH 20 March 2017 | Johor Bahru, Johor CFM was invited to give a talk about consumer safety in the cyber and digital world in a forum which was organised

by Johor Consumer Welfare Association (JCWA) at the New York Hotel in Johor Bahru. The forum, which was attended by over 100 participants from the government and private sectors, saw CFM Director, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin sharing with the audience about the top complaints reported to the agency by consumers and how common problems are resolved.

The Consumer Associations of Kedah (CAKE) invited CFM to their programme “Majlis Pemerkasaan Pengguna dan Townhall Dialog bersama Pemimpin Parlimen Jerlun” in Kedah.

CFM Chairman, Megat Ishak Maamunor Rashid gave a talk on Fraud Registration, while CFM Deputy Chairman, Mohammad Yusrizal Dato’ Yusoff touched on Consumer Rights with the aim to increase awareness and to empower the audience with matters regarding the communications and multimedia industry. The programme was attended by 100 participants comprised of government employees as well as members from youth associations and NGOs. CFM also set up a booth there to share valuable tech and communication tips with the attendees.

CFM CONVERGES IN IPOH FOR KNOWLEDGE SHARING SESSION 22 March 2017 | Ipoh, Perak The Impiana Hotel in Ipoh, Perak was the venue for CFM’s 6th Industry Knowledge Sharing Session. The awareness programme was organised in conjunction with the World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) 2017, and received the support of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Perak and Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism. In sync with WCRD 2017’s theme of “Building a Digital World Consumer Can Trust”, CFM deliberated on topics and issues related to consumers of communications and

multimedia services in Malaysia. The session was aimed at increasing the awareness and knowledge of the participants on consumer rights, as well as to understand consumers’ issues in relation to their communications and multimedia subscriptions. The invited speakers for the session were from the Department of Personal Data Protection, Tribunal Tuntutan Pengguna Malaysia (TTPM) as well as CFM Director, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin, and it was attended by 250 personnel from both the government and private sectors in Ipoh.

As part of its role to educate the public, CFM was invited to take part in a forum titled “The Reality of Today’s Consumer”, jointly organised by the Malaysian Consumer and Family Economics Association (MACFEA) and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) students in conjunction with the former’s Consumer Day on 30th March 2017.

CFM Director, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin was one of the panelists, sharing some tips and insights on the communications and multimedia industry with the audience comprising of UPM students and lecturers.

Other panelists who participated in the forum were from Altel and MACFEA.

C F M PA R T I C I PAT E S I N P O C K E T TA L K AT M I N I S T R Y O F E D U C AT I O N 6 April 2017 | Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur CFM was honoured to be invited to deliver a talk about communications and multimedia issues to the staff of the Ministry of Education, Education Technology Section. CFM Director, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin shared the issues of unsolicited SMS, dropped calls, tips to avoid device theft, roaming services and tips to choose the best mobile plan to the audience with the objective of empowering them with the right knowledge as a communications and multimedia consumer.

The talk was well received by the audience, who were excited with the speaker’s presentation and participated actively during the Q&A session.

In conjunction with Mother’s Day, CFM was invited to participate in a talk entitled “Communications and Multimedia Consumerism”, which was organised by the Persatuan Kebajikan Pengguna Negeri Melaka (PKPM). The event took place at Perkampungan Hang Tuah, Kampung Duyong, Melaka. CFM Complaints and Compliance Department Manager, Salabiah Mohd Madnash shared informative tips regarding consumer’s safety when using smartphone apps to the local community, comprised of mainly young students. CFM also explained on how to lodge a complaint to CFM if they have issues with their communications and multimedia services.

EMPOWERING CONSUMERS IN THE L AND BELOW THE WIND 18 May 2017 | Kota Kinabalu, Sabah CFM was invited to speak at a talk titled “Empowering Consumers’ Rights 2017” at Sutera Harbour Hotel, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The event was organised by the Monitoring and Compliance Division of MCMC to increase awareness and educate the consumer on the services regulated

by MCMC. CFM Director, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin talked about CFM’s roles in protecting consumers’ rights in the communication and multimedia industry.

The seminar saw the participation of 250 attendees from government and private agencies.

To celebrate the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2017, CFM organised the CFM Forum 2017 with the theme “The Evolution of Digital Consumer”. The forum was an initiative by CFM to host an intellectual platform to share the latest insights and developments in the communications and multimedia industry in Malaysia, as well as to connect the consumers with the industry players. The forum was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, YB Dato’ Jailani Johari. Three main topics were discussed during the one-day programme; Broadband in Malaysia – The Malaysian Consumer Experience, Digital TV on the Horizon, and Mobile Services: Coming to You Now. The panellists who shared their insights were industry experts such as CEO of TIME dotCom Berhad, Afzal Abdul Rahim; CEO of iflix Malaysia, Azran Osman Rani; Head of Digital Products and Services of Digi Telecommunications, Prashant Pathmanaban; Head of E-Channel of RHB Group, Azrul Farique Mustafa; and other speakers from MCMC. More than 150 participants from the government and private sectors, as well as the members of media, attended the forum which took place at the MCMC Auditorium, Cyberjaya.

LIVE-STREAMING: IS IT GOOD OR BAD FOR THE SOCIETY? Since Facebook made its Live feature available to its 1.6 billion users from January 2016, the social network giant has been actively reacquiring its lost market share from Twitter’s very own live-streaming app, Periscope. Following Live’s launch, both apps have been locked in a head-to-head battle to win the livestreaming race.

While Periscope claims to be the market leader of its kind, Facebook has made live-streaming as simple as 1, 2, 3, and its big audience certainly helped the Menlo Park-based company to gain a sizeable advantage over Twitter.

Not to be outdone, Periscope also offers tailormade features for its users. You can sketch while broadcasting, which is a pretty cool feature to have if you are a sports pundit explaining tactics to the viewers. Periscope also has a hub that allows you to view interesting videos, keep tabs on your followers and accounts that you like, which is something that Facebook has but only in desktop mode.

Moving on from the unique features of each app, much has been discussed on live-streaming and its ability to connect and engage with the audience faster, with greater transparency. Time is now the paramount characteristic of breaking news, making it the main ingredient for viral content, pushing authenticity to a close second.

Everything is about going viral these days, and Facebook Live and Periscope are a few of the major tools in delivering viral news to an insatiable and content-hungry audience. Which begs the question, is live-streaming good or bad for society?

Live-streaming is a powerful tool in times of crisis. It helps to document events as it unfolds, and is important in delivering fast updates to the audience. Virality of a news now depends on the speed of its spread, rather than the veracity of its content.

The technology offers genuine, first person account as it draws attention to injustice and potential crimes more swiftly, which brings us to the rise of citizen journalism, helping authorities combat crime.

Marketers are milking the benefits of live-streaming to either sell products or raise brand profile.

Without going through traditional channels such as TV or radio advertising, brand owners can engage directly with the consumers.

The advent of Facebook Live and Periscope open the doors to other live-streaming apps that are less strict or have no policy at all, with elements of the dark web.

In retrospect, all technology are meant to do good. It’s the people that make bad decisions or abuse the technology that was given to them. Live-streaming is an example of a good technology. With accountability, self-regulation and strict policy enforcement, expect more inspiring live-streaming content that shall advocate justice, humanity and peace.

In between these two former giants, we have HTC, whose metaltrendy casing became such a hit that everyone else went metal too. This time around, HTC is set to be the trendsetter again. Despite the retro look, KeyOne boasts Android 7.1 Nougat, which not only offers familiarity but also an enormous library of two million apps through Google Play Store. It comes with a Snapdragon 625 chip and 3GB of RAM, not much but plenty to go about, considering the built-in 32GB of storage, that could be further expanded to 256GB via microSD. Bye-bye metal, hello glass. Breaking away from its famous metal phones, the HTC U Ultra is easy on the eyes and packs a powerful punch underneath its glassy display. The (almost) all-glass U Ultra feels great in your hand too, measuring at 8mm thin and 170g weight. With a Quad HD display (1,440 x 2,560 resolution), one of the interesting features of U Ultra is its secondary display, a 2.05 inch strip that’s located on top of the primary 5.7 inch screen. You can use it to read a short text without unlocking your phone, and basically everything else a smartwatch can do, but without burning another hole in your pocket. Nokia 3310 (2017) From RM239 nokia.com/en_my/phones Going back to basic seems to do the trick for Nokia. The classic Nokia 3310 is given a modern reimagining, together with an update to the everpopular Snake game. What’s more, it comes with a battery that can last a month! And a 22 hours talk time! The new version comes in the original dark blue and grey colour, as well as yellow and warm red. The rebooted 3310, however, is simply a phone, not a smartphone. With only 2.5G and a camera that’s only 2 megapixels, you can surf the web (barely) and takes photos, but updating your Facebook or Instagram might be pushing it a bit too much. Did we mention Snake? Nokia’s updated version of the famous reptilian game is a great blast from the past by the developer, but in all honesty, the original Snake was way better.

Therefore, Nokia 3310 (2017) is great as a backup phone or for posterity reason, but is still worth the try, considering the price.

I’ve always wanted to join this industry since my childhood but I didn’t know where to start until I saw a commercial of “Projek Metro”

by Media Prima Berhad. I was lucky to be selected as one of the finalists and the reality show really sparked my interest to be in it. I started from scratch, never ever picky about events so I that I am able to gain as much experience as much as I can. Alhamdulillah, I am still surviving.

Being compared!

I keep getting comments that I look like another TV/Radio personality and people would always mistake me for this or that personality. It does turn me off a bit though, but I take it as a challenge to be better and try to be my own self. Every human in the world has a different inner character and this is what differentiates you from other people. I am still trying to put a different flavour on the plate and to be recognised for who I really am.

I first stepped foot in South Korea in 2008 to further my studies at Seoul National University (Korean Language), and then I continued at Sungkyunkwan University (Electric & Electronic). I then decided to continue staying in South Korea to set up my business, Korea Travel Operator, the official website for which is Seoul Red Cat (Travel Muslim Korea Style).

Besides being a tour operator and a student, I have also worked as an English teacher for a public class that was organised by the Guro District Office in Seoul for two years. While I was teaching there, I have learned a lot about how the Korean people live their daily lives. The salary I received from my teaching gig became the source of funds for my first backpacking trip to Europe and China.

After almost three years being a travel operator in Seoul and Jeju, I started writing “I’m a Backpacker: Korea”. The inspiration was drawn from my very own desire to share my experiences living in South Korea for almost eight years, and how to travel in a backpacker style, especially for Malaysians who wish to visit the country.

“I’m a Backpacker: Korea” took a year to complete and is targeted at teenagers and young adults (below 40 years). I decided to choose a relaxed style of writing to make the book easy to understand and fun to read. I was touched when many people told me that they visited Seoul with only my book as their guide. Normally, a standard package to Seoul will cost around RM2,000 per person, but with my book as a guide, a trip to Seoul can become more affordable and much cheaper. That’s the best thing about my book.

In my opinion, South Korea is a country that is highly advanced in economy, sports and society, despite achieving independence at around the same time as Malaysia. The people are well known for being highly respectful towards their elders and are tremendously hardworking. In South Korea, there are two languages which is; the National Language - used when conversing with a customer, elderly people or new acquaintance; while Street Language is used when conversing with someone familiar and children. Throughout my stay in the K-Pop country, I found that the people are very trendy and fashionable, to the extent of being a cultural reference for some other countries. South Korea also has its very own traditional costume, “Hanbok”, worn only at weddings, festivals and funerals.

My second book will be published with the same concept as the first one, focusing on areas around Jeju and Busan. In that book, I will peel the layers of the darker side of South Korea. The readers’ perception on South Korea might change once they are finished with the book.

For backpackers that are interested to travel to South Korea, prepare enough money for the trip, especially for contingencies, research your destination to avoid being lost and being victims to scams, as well as for the Muslims to find out about the location of places serving halal food.

These days, mobile phones are a big part of our daily lives. You use it to call your family back home, to record your daughter’s first step, to find the location of the best restaurant of the month, to check the weather of the foreign country you’re going to visit next week, and for countless other tasks that previously had to be performed by multiple devices. With such advancement in mobile phone technology, the issue of mobile phone safety becomes more prevalent these days.

Being a disruptive agent of change, mobile phones have revolutionised the way many of us tackle our daily chores. In doing so, we tend to neglect safety in order to get things done faster. For example, making a hotel reservation over the phone while you are manoeuvring your motor vehicle on the highway.

While it is true that by the time you reach your destination, you would have managed to book your stay for that business trip, but consider how many times you had to swerve left or right to avoid other drivers just because you are distracted, both hand and mind?

Eventually, mobile phone safety boils down to self-awareness.

Having all the law in the world to govern your safety can only bring fear of being prosecuted. Educate yourself on the dangers that a mobile phones may pose to your safety, digest it and share it with friends and family. The danger may be immediate, such as the case of driving while using mobile phones, but your safety could still be jeopardised in the long run as well if you continue to use your mobile phone incorrectly. Use your mobile phone safely, protect yourself and others around you.

This is a big no, regardless of the situation. Even glancing at your phone for a millisecond increases the risk of an accident, so imagine what would happen if you are actually texting or holding your phone in one hand while driving with the other. Nothing is more important than your life and others around you, so stop the car and find a safe spot to continue your business on your mobile phone.

If you plan to use your phone while it is still charging, make sure you are using a manufacturer-approved charger. The myth surrounding this issue has been debunked many times, either scientifically or through popular culture on TV shows like Mythbusters. However, petrol stations all over the world are still taking preventive measures by displaying caution stickers at their pumps. The reason: A single flicker of an electromagnetic pulse can instantly combust the air near where petrol is being pumped. Be smart and find other safer places to use your mobile phone.

UNSOLICITED SMS Have you received unsolicited SMS before? Odds are, you have, whether you know it or not. Unsolicited SMS comes in many forms. Scam, promotional SMS, unsubscribed SMS, and spam peer to peer are some of the types of unsolicited SMS that are sometimes used by crooks to target uninformed victims.

The key to avoid being a victim is awareness and education. Therefore, you should never, ever go into suspicious or unsecured websites without proper protection i.e. anti-virus. Be safe by never randomly clicking on any pop-up advertisements or banners that you come across while going online.

Nevertheless, there have been many reported cases of unsolicited SMS, as shown in the statistics below. This shows that there are still many victims out there, so do your bit and help to spread awareness about the issue to your family and friends.

Awin, please have a look at this. This has happened several times, out of the blue I will receive this “subscription successful” SMS. I have never responded to any unsolicited SMS before.

This is the first step to check the authenticity of your device.

Compare your device specifications on the box with legitimate sources such as the device’s website or credible third-party source such as www.gsmarena.com. You can also check your device’s specifications by going to Settings > About Phone and verify the details there.

There’s nothing wrong with purchasing your phone at unauthorised dealers. Sometimes you could even get a better bargain there. But beware of the special price or freebies that you receive, as you could instead be buying a clone device. If the price of the phone is cheaper at unauthorised dealers, it might exclude standard accessories or come with cheaper unbranded accessories (i.e. earphones, cables, chargers, etc.). If the physical features of the phone don’t feel right, odds are it could be a fake.

Take your device to authorised dealers and compare your device with other original devices sold there. Furthermore, check the warranty for the device, if it is covered by the phone manufacturer or by returning the device to the dealer.

SIRIM-CERTIFIED

IMEI or International Mobile Equipment Identity can be loosely translated in layman’s term as your phone’s identity card number. Key in *#06# onto your phone’s dialling pad and you will see a 15-digit number, which is your phone’s IMEI number. Check that number against the IMEI number on your device’s box, and if it’s the same, then you have nothing to worry about. You can also use IMEI to determine your phone’s origin and its build quality, but this is not entirely accurate. Do the same for serial numbers as the device and the box should have matching numbers.

Lastly, let the authorities do the checking for you. SIRIM is the reference for standards in Malaysia, so if your device comes with a SIRIM sticker, just enjoy the gadget. You can also check your IMEI number with SIRIM at this link: http://ecomm.sirim.my/ SirimEnquiry/search_IMEI.aspx.

PROGRAM CFM BERSAMA PENGGUNA M E R A I K A N H A R I WA N I TA S E D U N I A 8 Mac 2017 | Cheras, Kuala Lumpur Bersempena dengan Hari Wanita Sedunia, CFM meraikan hari penuh makna itu dengan berkongsi maklumat tentang peranan CFM yang dapat membantu pengguna untuk menyelesaikan isu mengenai perkhidmatan komunikasi dan multimedia dalam satu sesi senaman khas bersama 75 orang peserta wanita. M E L I N D U N G I K E S E L A M ATA N P E N G G U N A D I S E L ATA N TA N A H A I R 20 Mac 2017 | Johor Bahru, Johor CFM telah dijemput untuk memberikan ceramah mengenai keselamatan pengguna di dunia digital dan siber di sebuah forum anjuran Persatuan Kebajikan Pengguna Johor (JCWA) di Hotel New York di Johor Bahru. Forum yang dihadiri lebih daripada 100 peserta dari agensi kerajaan dan swasta mendengar perkongsian daripada Pengarah CFM, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin mengenai aduan-aduan yang kerap dilaporkan oleh pengguna dan cara penyelesaian bagi masalah tersebut.

Persatuan Pengguna Kedah (CAKE) telah menjemput CFM menghadiri program anjurannya iaitu “Majlis Pemerkasaan Pengguna dan Townhall Dialog bersama Pemimpin Parlimen Jerlun” di Kedah. Pengerusi CFM, Megat Ishak Maamunor Rashid menyampaikan ceramah mengenai Pendaftaran Palsu, manakala Timbalan Pengerusi CFM, Mohammad Yusrizal Dato’ Yusoff berkongsi tips mengenai Hak-hak Pengguna bagi meningkatkan kesedaran serta memperkasakan para peserta dengan isu-isu yang berkaitan industri komunikasi dan multimedia.

Program tersebut dihadiri 100 peserta yang terdiri daripada kakitangan kerajaan serta ahli-ahli persatuan belia dan NGO. CFM turut membuka ruang pameran untuk berkongsi tipstips teknologi dan komunikasi yang bermanfaat kepada para pengunjung.

C F M K E I P O H U N T U K S E S I P E R K O N G S I A N M A K L U M AT I N D U S T R I 22 Mac 2017 | Ipoh, Perak Hotel Impiana di Ipoh, Perak menjadi lokasi untuk Sesi Perkongsian Maklumat Industri CFM kali ke-6. Program kesedaran ini dianjurkan bersempena Hari Hak-hak Pengguna Sedunia (WCRD) 2017, dengan sokongan Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (MCMC) Perak dan Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri, Koperasi dan Kepenggunaan (KPDNKK) Perak. Selari dengan tema WCRD 2017 iaitu “Membina Dunia Digital Yang Boleh Dipercayai Pengguna”, CFM membincangkan topik dan isu mengenai pengguna perkhidmatan komunikasi

dan multimedia di Malaysia. Sesi tersebut bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesedaran dan pengetahuan peserta mengenai hak-hak pengguna, serta memahami isu pengguna mengenai langganan perkhidmatan komunikasi dan multimedia. Penceramah yang dijemput ke sesi tersebut adalah dari Jabatan Perlindungan Data Peribadi, Tribunal Tuntutan Pengguna Malaysia (TTPM) serta Pengarah CFM, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin, yang telah dihadiri oleh 250 kakitangan daripada sektor awam dan swasta di Ipoh.

BERKONGSI TIPS PENGGUNA DI UPM 30 Mac 2017 | UPM, Serdang

CFM telah dijemput untuk mengambil bahagian di dalam satu forum bertajuk “Realiti Pengguna Hari Ini” yang dianjurkan bersama oleh Persatuan Ekonomi Pengguna dan Keluarga Malaysia (MACFEA) dan pelajar Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) bersempena Hari Pengguna pada 30 Mac 2017. Pengarah CFM, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin

menjadi salah seorang ahli panel telah berkongsi tips dan pandangan tentang industri komunikasi dan multimedia dengan hadirin yang terdiri daripada pelajar dan pensyarah UPM. Antara ahli panel lain yang mengambil bahagian di dalam forum tersebut adalah wakil daripada Altel dan MACFEA.

CFM SAMPAIKAN CERAMAH RINGKAS DI KEMENTERIAN PENDIDIKAN 6 April 2017 | Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur CFM menerima jemputan ceramah mengenai isu-isu komunikasi dan multimedia untuk dikongsikan bersama kakitangan bahagian Teknologi Pendidikan, Kementerian Pendidikan.

Pengarah CFM, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin berkongsi isu tentang SMS tidak diminta, panggilan terputus, tips untuk mengelakkan kecurian peranti, perkhidmatan perayauan dan tips untuk memilih pelan mudah alih terbaik bagi memperkasakan hadirin dengan maklumat yang tepat sebagai pengguna komunikasi dan multimedia. Ceramah tersebut menerima sambutan baik daripada peserta yang sangat aktif mengambil bahagian dalam sesi soal jawab.

Bersempena Hari Ibu, CFM telah dijemput menyertai ceramah bertajuk “Kepenggunaan Komunikasi dan Multimedia”, yang dianjurkan oleh Persatuan Kebajikan Pengguna Negeri Melaka (PKPM). Majlis tersebut bertempat di Perkampungan Hang Tuah, Kampung Duyong, Melaka. Pengurus Jabatan Aduan dan Pematuhan CFM, Salabiah Mohd Madnash berkongsi tips yang penuh informasi mengenai keselamatan pengguna semasa menggunakan aplikasi telefon pintar kepada komuniti tempatan yang kebanyakannya terdiri daripada para pelajar. CFM turut menerangkan bagaimana untuk membuat aduan kepada CFM sekiranya mereka mempunyai sebarang isu berkaitan perkhidmatan komunikasi dan multimedia.

MEMPERKASA PENGGUNA DI NEGERI DI BAWAH BAYU 18 Mei 2017 | Kota Kinabalu, Sabah CFM telah dijemput untuk menyampaikan ceramah dalam Seminar “Memperkasakan Hak-hak Pengguna 2017” di Hotel Sutera Harbour, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Majlis itu dianjurkan oleh Bahagian Pemantauan dan Pematuhan, Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (MCMC) bagi meningkatkan kesedaran pengguna mengenai perkhidmatan yang dikawal selia oleh MCMC. Pengarah CFM, Ahmad Izham Khairuddin memberi penerangan tentang peranan CFM dalam melindungi hak-hak pengguna di dalam industri komunikasi dan multimedia yang dihadiri seramai 250 hadirin daripada agensi kerajaan dan swasta.

Bagi meraikan Hari Telekomunikasi dan Masyarakat Berinformasi Sedunia (WTISD) 2017, CFM telah menganjurkan Forum CFM 2017 yang bertemakan “Evolusi Pengguna Digital”. Forum tersebut merupakan inisiatif CFM untuk menjadikannya sebagai platform perbincangan intelektual bagi berkongsi pandangan dan perkembangan terkini dalam industri komunikasi dan multimedia di Malaysia, selain dapat menghubungkan pengguna dengan para pemain industri. Forum CFM 2017 telah dirasmikan oleh Timbalan Menteri Komunikasi dan Multimedia, YB Dato’ Jailani Johari. Tiga topik utama telah dibincangkan dalam program yang berlangsung selama sehari tersebut iaitu Jalur Lebar di Malaysia – Pengalaman Pengguna Malaysia, TV Digital, dan Perkhidmatan Mudah Alih.

Barisan ahli panel forum terdiri daripada pakar industri seperti Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif TIME dotCom Berhad, Afzal Abdul Rahim; Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif iflix Malaysia, Azran Osman Rani; Ketua Produk dan Perkhidmatan Digital Digi, Prashant Pathmanaban; Ketua E-Channel Kumpulan RHB, Azrul Farique Mustafa; dan beberapa orang panel dari Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia (MCMC). Lebih daripada 150 peserta dari agensi kerajaan dan swasta serta ahli media telah menghadiri forum yang bertempat di Auditorium MCMC, Cyberjaya.

PENSTRIMAN LIVE: BAIK ATAU TIDAK U N T U K M A S YA R A K AT ?

Sejak Facebook melancarkan aplikasi ‘Live’ kepada 1.6 bilion penggunanya pada Januari 2016, syarikat media sosial gergasi itu telah memperoleh semula bahagian pasarannya secara lebih aktif berbanding aplikasi penstriman live Twitter, Periscope.

Susulan daripada pelancaran ‘Live’, kedua-dua aplikasi tersebut kini bersaing untuk memenangi saingan penstriman live.

Walaupun Periscope telah meletakkan rangkaiannya sebagai peneraju pasaran yang tersendiri, Facebook telah menjadikan penstriman live semudah 1, 2, 3, dan jumlah penggunanya yang amat besar telah membantu syarikat yang berpangkalan di Menlo Park itu untuk mencapai kelebihan yang lebih ketara daripada Twitter.

Tidak mahu ketinggalan, Periscope juga menawarkan ciri-ciri yang disesuaikan dengan penggunanya. Anda boleh melukis ketika bersiaran langsung, satu ciri hebat jika anda adalah seorang pengulas sukan dan ingin menerangkan taktik kepada penonton. Periscope juga menawarkan hub yang membolehkan anda menonton video-video menarik, mengikuti perkembangan terkini pengikut anda dan akaun yang anda minati. Ia sesuatu yang dimiliki oleh Facebook tetapi hanya untuk mod desktop.

Selain daripada ciri-ciri unik setiap aplikasi tersebut, banyak yang telah diperkatakan mengenai penstriman live dan kebolehannya berhubung dan berinteraksi dengan lebih pantas dengan penonton, dan lebih telus. Masa merupakan elemen paling penting bagi hebahan berita terkini menjadikannya ramuan utama untuk kandungan tular, namun telah mengetepikan kesahihan berita sebagai ciri utama.

Cerita tular semakin menjadi-jadi sejak kebelakangan ini, dan Facebook Live serta Periscope merupakan beberapa saluran utama untuk menyampaikan berita tular kepada penonton yang sentiasa dahaga dan mendambakan kandungan sensasi. Terdapat kemungkinan kandungan berunsur ganas dan lucah dapat disiarkan kepada orang awam, walaupun untuk seketika, sebelum ia disekat.

KEMBARA MENJADI BUKU Petah berbahasa Korea. Halian Azurin Ab Halim, penulis buku “I’M A BACKPACKER: KOREA”. Pengalamannya mengembara di bumi “kimchi” telah dikarang menjadi sebuah buku yang mempunyai cerita mengenai negara itu dan panduan tentang cara menjadi seorang pengembara beg galas (backpacker). Buku ini amat dikenali oleh pembaca di Malaysia yang akan menjadikannya salah satu panduan jika berkunjung ke Korea Selatan.

Saya mula menjejakkan kaki ke Korea Selatan pada tahun 2008 untuk melanjutkan pelajaran di Universiti Kebangsaan Seoul (jurusan Bahasa Korea), kemudian menyambung ke Universiti Sungkyunkwan (jurusan Elektrik & Elektronik), sehinggalah menetap di sana bagi memulakan perniagaan “Korea Travel Operator” – laman web rasmi, Seoul Red Cat (Travel Muslim Korea Style).

Setelah hampir 3 tahun menjadi operator di Seoul dan Jeju, saya mula menulis buku “I’m A Backpacker: Korea”. Ilham untuk menulis buku ini datang kerana saya ingin menceritakan tentang pengalaman sendiri yang telah menetap hampir 8 tahun di Korea Selatan serta ingin berkongsi tentang cara mengembara secara “backpacker” khususnya untuk rakyat Malaysia yang mahu melancong ke sana.

Dari kaca mata Halian Azurin, Korea Selatan adalah sebuah negara yang maju dari aspek ekonomi, sukan dan sosial walaupun negara itu merdeka pada tahun yang hampir sama dengan Malaysia. Masyarakatnya dikenali dengan sikap yang amat menghormati orang yang lebih tua dan sangat tekun bekerja. Di Korea Selatan, terdapat dua jenis bahasa iaitu Bahasa Tinggi, digunakan ketika bercakap dengan pelanggan, orang yang lebih tua ataupun orang yang baru dikenali; manakala Bahasa Pasar digunakan ketika bercakap dengan orang yang sudah lama kita kenali dan kanak-kanak. Sepanjang berada di negara “K-Pop” itu, saya dapati masyarakatnya sangat pandai bergaya dan berfesyen sehingga menjadi ikutan di negara lain. Korea Selatan turut mempunyai pakaian tradisional iaitu “Hanbok” yang hanya dipakai ketika majlis perkahwinan, hari perayaan dan majlis kematian sahaja.

Antara pengalaman menarik saya sepanjang berada di Korea Selatan selain daripada menjadi operator dan pelajar universiti adalah sewaktu saya bekerja sebagai guru Bahasa Inggeris di sebuah Kelas Awam yang dianjurkan oleh Pejabat Daerah Guro, Seoul selama 2 tahun. Ketika mengajar di sana, saya banyak belajar mengenai cara hidup masyarakat Korea Selatan. Gaji mengajar itu saya simpan dan akhirnya dapat mengembara ke Eropah dan China.

Itulah “backpacking trip” saya yang pertama.

Buku “I’m A Backpacker: Korea” mengambil masa selama setahun untuk disiapkan yang mensasarkan pembaca dalam kalangan golongan remaja sehingga dewasa (40 tahun ke bawah). Saya memilih gaya penulisan yang santai agar buku ini mudah untuk difahami dan seronok dibaca.

Saya amat terharu apabila ramai yang mengatakan bahawa mereka melancong di Seoul dengan hanya berpandukan buku saya. Kebiasaannya, pakej melancong ke Seoul menelan kos lebih daripada RM2,000 untuk seorang, namun dengan panduan daripada buku saya, perjalanan ke Seoul menjadi lebih mudah dan kos perbelanjaannya lebih rendah. Itulah keistimewaan buku saya.

Buku kedua saya bakal diterbitkan dengan konsep yang sama seperti buku pertama, cuma lebih fokus kepada kawasan di sekitar Jeju dan Busan. Dalam buku itu, saya akan mengupas tentang sisi Korea Selatan yang lebih “gelap”. Persepsi pembaca mengenai Korea Selatan mungkin akan berubah selepas membaca buku kedua ini.

Bagi “backpackers” yang berminat untuk menjelajah ke Korea Selatan, sediakan wang yang mencukupi untuk perjalanan terutamanya wang kecemasan, selidik dan buat kajian tentang destinasi yang ingin dituju agar tidak mudah sesat dan ditipu, serta ketahui tempat untuk mendapatkan makanan halal bagi yang beragama Islam.

Telefon bimbit telah mengubah cara-cara kita menyelesaikan tugasan harian. Dengan kemudahan yang ada pada telefon bimbit, kita seringkali mengabaikan keselamatan dengan alasan mahu segera menyelesaikan tugasan. Contohnya, membuat tempahan bilik hotel melalui telefon ketika sedang memandu di lebuhraya.

Walaupun anda mungkin berjaya menempah bilik tersebut, tetapi berapa kali anda terpaksa mengelak pemandu lain kerana fikiran dan tingkah laku anda terganggu?

Pendek kata, keselamatan semasa menggunakan telefon bimbit terletak pada diri sendiri. Undang-undang hanya menyebabkan anda takut pada hukuman. Pendidikan amat penting bagi meningkatkan kesedaran terhadap bahaya yang mungkin berlaku akibat penggunaan telefon bimbit, jadi berkongsilah ilmu dan kesedaran tersebut bersama-sama rakan dan keluarga. Kemalangan mungkin boleh berlaku serta-merta, contohnya memandu sambil menggunakan telefon bimbit yang boleh menjejaskan keselamatan anda pada bila-bila masa jika anda berterusan menyalahgunakan telefon bimbit anda. Gunakanlah telefon bimbit anda dengan selamat, lindungi diri sendiri dan orang lain di sekeliling anda.

SMS TIDAK DIMINTA Pernahkah anda menerima SMS tidak diminta sebelum ini? Besar kemungkinan anda pernah menerimanya, sama ada sedar ataupun tidak. Ada pelbagai jenis SMS tidak diminta. Penipuan, SMS promosi, SMS tidak dilanggan, dan spam P2P (peer-to-peer) adalah beberapa jenis SMS tidak diminta yang kadangkalanya digunakan oleh pihak yang tidak bertanggungjawab yang mensasarkan mangsa-mangsa yang tidak maklum mengenai perkara tersebut.

Kesedaran diri dan ilmu pengetahuan adalah kunci bagi mengelak daripada menjadi mangsa. Oleh itu, anda jangan melayari laman web yang mencurigakan dan tidak terjamin keselamatannya tanpa menggunakan perisian anti-virus. Sentiasa berhati-hati semasa melayari sebarang laman web dan jangan klik mana-mana iklan yang muncul secara tiba-tiba (pop-up advertisements) ketika melayari internet.

PENGEDAR SAH Memeriksa spesifikasi telefon anda ialah langkah pertama untuk memeriksa ketulenan peranti tersebut. Bandingkan spesifikasi di kotak bungkusan peranti anda dengan sumber sahih seperti laman web peranti tersebut atau sumber daripada pihak ketiga yang boleh dipercayai seperti www.gsmarena. com. Anda juga boleh memeriksa spesifikasi telefon tersebut dengan pergi ke Tetapan > Mengenai Telefon dan sahkan maklumat tersebut di situ.

Tidak ada salahnya untuk membeli telefon anda menerusi pengedar yang tidak sah. Kadang-kala anda mungkin boleh mendapat tawaran yang lebih baik dari situ. Namun, berhati-hati dengan hadiah atau ganjaran yang ditawarkan, kerana anda mungkin membeli peranti klon. Jika harga telefon yang ditawarkan di kedai pengedar tidak sah lebih murah, ia mungkin tidak dilengkapi dengan aksesori standard ataupun anda hanya diberikan aksesori tidak berjenama yang lebih murah seperti set alat dengar, kabel, pengecas dan lain-lain. Jika ciri-ciri fizikal peranti tersebut serba tidak kena, kemungkinan besar ia adalah peranti palsu. Bawa peranti anda ke pengedar yang sah dan bandingkannya dengan peranti asli lain yang dijual di situ. Selain itu, semak jaminan peranti tersebut jika ia dilindungi oleh pengeluar telefon atau perlu dikembalikan kepada pengedar tersebut jika terdapat kerosakan.

IMEI atau “International Mobile Equipment Identity” ialah nombor kad pengenalan telefon anda. Dail *#06# di telefon anda dan ia akan memaparkan 15 digit nombor yang juga dikenali sebagai nombor IMEI telefon anda.

Bandingkan nombor tersebut dengan nombor IMEI di kotak bungkusan peranti anda. Jika kedua-duanya sama, anda tidak perlu risau. Anda juga boleh menggunakan nombor IMEI untuk mengenalpasti ketulenan dan kualiti telefon anda, tetapi maklumat ini tidak semestinya tepat. Periksa juga nombor siri yang terdapat pada peranti dan kotak peranti tersebut jika ia mempunyai nombor siri yang sepadan.

Akhir sekali, serahkan kepada pihak berwajib untuk membuat pemeriksaan peranti anda. SIRIM adalah tempat rujukan untuk sebarang hal piawaian di Malaysia. Oleh itu, jika peranti anda sudah dilabel dengan SIRIM, anda boleh menggunakan peranti anda tanpa was-was.
