Unrestricted Giving for Today, Tomorrow & Always

“A grant from The Community Foundation was critical in helping us feed everyone who came through our doors in 2023, and we are incredibly grateful,” said Loretta Parsons, executive director of the Soup Kitchen of Muncie. “Thanks to the generosity of the Community Foundation and all its supporters, we were able to continue serving Muncie’s most vulnerable people, even as food prices skyrocketed and the demand for our services soared.”

The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation provides The Community Foundation with the flexibility to meet changing needs of Muncie and Delaware County. This year, through unrestricted funds, we supported Community Grants. Delaware County Emergency Communications Center acquired radio equipment for mobile dispatch vehicles. Project Leadership assisted students as they prepared for college. Minnetrista brought new exhibits to Muncie. Grants supported BY5 and Nonprofit Support Network, supporting organizations of the Foundation, which were established to fill gaps and meet needs in our community.

Since 1985, nearly 2,000 unique donors have contributed $22.5 million to unrestricted funds at The Community Foundation. Through growth, grantmaking from those same funds has exceeded contributions – totaling more than $23 million and growing.

This year-end, we invite you to make a gift to The Unrestricted Fund or any named unrestricted fund at The Community Foundation and take advantage of a special opportunity to triple your gift.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County is pleased to announce its intent to apply for a $2.25 million Matching Fund Grant through the eighth phase of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT VIII). The Community Foundation will be able to use its Matching Fund Grant to further develop its unrestricted assets. At least 60 percent of the grant must be allocated to support the growth of The Community Foundation’s unrestricted endowment, which over time will provide financial resources that enable The Community Foundation to respond to both present and future community needs. Lilly Endowment Inc. will provide $2 for every $1 contributed to The Community Foundation’s unrestricted endowment during GIFT VIII’s matching period, October 1, 2023, through December 31, 2025. Both ARF and the Soup Kitchen of Muncie received grants from the Community Grants program at The Community Foundation in 2023. The grant to ARF supported the completion of Ollie’s Bed and Biscuit, while the grant to the Soup Kitchen of Muncie provided support for the cost of food and a security officer.
