Dear fellow Chamber Members: If you’re a burger aficionado like I am, get ready to sink your teeth into some of the juiciest, cheesiest, spiciest beef, veggie and fish creations you’ll ever find between two buns. At the Fourth Annual Burgerliscious, more than 20 of Coral Gables’ favorite restaurants –– including Shula’s, Shake Shack and Season’s 52, BurgerFi and ROK:Brgr–– have pulled out all the stops for the honor of being voted the “best.” However, I think you’ll agree, the real winners of this duel are all of us!

Where else can you sample burgers from the areas top eateries, accompanied by a frosty beer and good conversation? And the best part: A portion of the evening’s proceeds is earmarked for the Coral Gables Community Foundation in support of small business training programs.

Burgerliscious is all about bringing you and your favorite burger together! My favorite last year? Well, it was a tough decision. So, I tried them all — several times. I guarantee there’s a burger with your name on it. Come eat, drink, socialize and help kick off one of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s signature programs: Miami Live Music Month. PRESIDENT’S PERSPECTIVE - GOT MEAT?!

I am an original chubby boy from The Great State of Ohio who has been in madly in love with the Great American Burger since the day I could chew.

As the youngest son of a Wendy’s franchisee in Northwest Ohio, I like to think of myself as an aficionado when it comes to all things old fashioned hamburger.

It was part of my molecular DNA from birth, the building blocks of my burger-loving soul.

An amazingly delicious burger is sort of like a hotdog at the ballpark. It cannot be created outside the majesty of the stadium and so, you need to go in search…and do we have the answer for YOU! On Thursday, November 6th from 6pm-10pm at Fred Hartnett/Ponce Circle Park in the heart of the Gables, we will once again showcase our burgers, our chefs, our restaurants and our partners with 24 restaurants cooking up their very best.

We could not have done this with such success from the beginning without our friends at Sam Adams, I am still a fan of the burger to this day (medium rare, Brown-Forman/Jack Daniels, the GMCVB, the City of of course, with a cool, pink center) and consider it to Coral Gables and of course, our loyal restaurants. In the same way in 2011, we needed to help our restaurants, show them some love and create an event that would highlight their unique standing in the Gables. But, we were in the midst of a recession and thus, needed to be creative without breaking the bank.

Now, everyone loves a great hamburger, even vegetarians, vegans and herbivores. During the recession, many of the local restaurants had added a gourmet one to their menu options as a way to stay accessible to the everyday customer, while trying to survive (and thrive) in a downturned economy. People were going out for lunch and dinner less during these leaner years…but a great burger was always a good idea.

Chamber members had their chance to take photos with two of the Championship trophies, HEAT Champion ballers and Burnie!

If that wasn’t enough, add in the Heat Mascot Burnie, the Heat Dancers, the Championship Trophies and a question & answer panel headed by Nelson “The Laz” Lazo, CEO of Doctors Hospital, and our own Mark “The Trow” Trowbridge. It was a remarkable luncheon – and if you missed it, mark your calendar now for what we know will be the 4th Annual Heat Luncheon next September!

Our friends at City National Bank hosted our Trustees at the October Reception and created a wonderful event, with a great sushi buffet and a spacious, inviting venue to mingle with fellow Trustees. As always, thank you to Dustin Symes, Raquel Hickey and Our Chamber President poses with HEAT hype-man Burnie, the hottest mascot in the team for their gracious hospitality!

The October Trustee Luncheon, attended by over 90 guests and held at The Biltmore, featured the amazing and witty Bruce Turkel, CEO of the phenomenally successful TURKEL Brands. Bruce, a native Miamian, has written thousands of headlines, print ads, television spots, websites and campaigns. Always much in demand as a speaker, we were very fortunate indeed to be treated to his inspirational, into which was deftly mixed his unique sense of humor…I certainly hope we will have the opportunity to have him speak again!

At this luncheon, we also had an opportunity to recognize a member of our Council for something very special. Our Gabriel de Armas, Jr., whose company Home Instead Senior Care has worked Our all-star panel moderated by Chamber President, Mark A.
