The St. Clair Shores Downtown Social District is not only enjoyed by the patrons but by the businesses as well. Jimmy Mazzola, co-owner of the Cheesecake Shoppe with his sister Sandra Kravitz, said this is the third year of the social district and that it has improved since the first year. They’ve seen crowd size increase from the second year. “And one thing that has affected it has been the weather,” Mazzola said. “If it’s extremely hot or if we get rain, I can see business affected as soon as the rain comes, which again is pretty normal.” He said they enjoy it, and that the cafe aspect of their business has helped. “That’s really helped because that allows people

ROYAL OAK — The date of Aug. 10 marked the dedication of phase 1 of the Michigan World War II Legacy Memorial in Royal Oak. The ceremony was held at Memorial Park, 31050

Woodward Ave., where hundreds of veterans, residents and others looking to pay their respects to those who served attended. Phase 1 work on the memorial included 1,400 bricks for its Walk of Honor, flagpoles for each service branch, footings for the Wall of Stars and future “Sea”

HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Every time Elvis Presley fans find out Johnny Lang knew the superstar personally, they ask him the same question: “What was he like?” Lang, 87, never hesitates to respond. “Nothing but heart,” the Harrison Township resident said. “He was wonderful, just wonderful.” Lang became friends with Presley — dubbed the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll — when they were both drafted into the U.S. Army, serving from 1958-60 in Germany. By the time Presley began his military stint, the singer already had several hits under his blue suede shoes, including “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Love Me Tender” and “Hound Dog.” Lang’s bond with Presley was so special that he wrote the book “My Army Days with Elvis: Friendship, Football, & Follies,” released in January 2023. After the book came out, Lang did an autograph session at his regular hangout: the Alibi Inn in Clinton Township. On Aug. 8, the author shared his stories during an Elvis Presley themed event held at the Recreational Authority of Roseville and Eastpointe’s Senior Center. “The first time I saw Elvis was at the firing range. That’s the romanticism and camaraderie of baseball — how one pitch, one swing and one home run could have such a profound impact that the pair meeting up again nearly 40 years later could draw so much attention. “The game is over and we’re done, but to have this and start this, it gives him something else to focus on than his health conditions and his health issues that he’s had with Parkinson’s,” Gossage said. “It’s great to be

ering him. No way,’” said Lang, a 1955 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Royal Oak. “He was about 100 yards away from me and that was it. But the second time I saw him, I’m on the train going from Fort Hood, Texas, to New Jersey because we’re shipping out to Germany.” It was fellow soldier Charlie Hodge, a musician himself who later became part of Presley’s “Memphis Mafia” entourage, who insisted Lang say hello. He did and spent about 15 minutes talking to the music icon. Lang and Presley met a third time while sail-

ing the Atlantic Ocean aboard the USS Randall. That’s when they became pals. “We spent 10 days on the boat,” Lang said. “That’s when I really got to know him. I got to know him as a person, not a movie star.” One favorite memory on the ship was an impromptu performance from Presley after Lang found a piano “in this great big room.” At first, the place was empty. But as soon as Presley began belting out songs and tickling the ivories, the other soldiers packed the room for the mini concert. “He started out really slow. Then in a flash, man, he got into it. The performer took over and he started banging the hell out of that piano,” Lang wrote in his memoir. “Everybody was clapping and cheering.” See ELVIS on page 10A

CRIME

WATCH Attempt to pass counterfeit cash reported

At 11:24 a.m. on Aug. 21, a report was made about an attempt to pass counterfeit money on the same date in the 21000 block of Harper Avenue. Upon arrival, an officer spoke to the person who reported the crime, a 53-yearold man, who stated he was working the register when a man about 50 years old came in to buy some candy and a lottery ticket. The suspect handed a $20 bill to the man at the register, who immediately recognized it as counterfeit and refused to sell the items. The suspect then tried to climb over the counter but the man at the register pushed him back. The suspect then ran outside and left on a bicycle. The man at the register said he would save the video for detectives. The counterfeit bill was tagged as evidence.

Breaking and entering reported

At 12:12 p.m. on Aug. 22, a report was made about a break-in that occurred between Aug. 21 and Aug. 22 in the 23000 block of Pare Street. Upon arrival, an officer spoke to the president of the business that was reportedly broken into, a 70-year-old woman, who directed the officer to a back room where a window had been broken out. The window was on the northwest side of a room filled with children’s toys and other items. The president stated the volunteers had picked up a majority of the glass on the inside. On the shelf where the window was broken,

there was an empty space where a toy or toys may have been. Nothing else appeared to be disturbed. The president then directed the officer outside where there was glass shattered all over the ground. The officer didn’t see the object that was used to break the window. An empty torn-up toy box was on the ground outside. The president estimated the missing toy to be valued at around $50. She stated the last time she noticed the window intact was on Aug. 21 and that she noticed it was damaged on Aug. 22. She is unsure of what else could have been on the shelf. An evidence technician was called to evaluate the scene.

Stolen watercraft reported

At 4:35 p.m. on Aug. 23, a report was made about a stolen watercraft. The theft reportedly occurred between Aug. 5 and Aug. 19 in the 24000 block of Jefferson Avenue. The victim, a 54-year-old man, came into the station and stated that someone had stolen his boat while it was docked at a marina. The victim said he last docked his boat on Aug. 5 and came back to find it was gone on Aug. 19. The victim and a security guard looked all over the property, both land and water, to find the boat but didn’t find anything. The victim said his boat was up to date on all payments and that he had the keys. An officer asked if there were any additional sets of keys and the victim stated that there was another set on the boat, which he kept hidden. The victim said no one else knows where the spare key is located. — Alyssa Ochss

Gregory P. Guidice, president and CEO of Zebra K9, said students will most likely end up embracing the dog because they know its job is to protect them. “When the dog isn’t actively working, it’s a dog, and so it’s able to be pet,” Guidice said. “So there’s a socialemotional component to it.” According to an email, Zebra K9 also services hospitals, businesses and others. here with him and for him, and to see such a great turnout. It’s awesome.” As attendees bowled to start the night and enjoyed food and conversation, the attention shifted to the video board as the journey to the 1984 World Series was displayed, showing a buildup of draft picks and even the infamous Rozema karate kick against the Minnesota Twins in 1982 during a bench-clearing brawl, which drew laughter from the crowd. Afterward, the ’84 World Series panel took the stage as Gossage, Gibson, Trammell and Rozema discussed the famous at-bat between Gossage and Gibson, the Tigers clubhouse in 1984 and everything in between. “Obviously, we get to reminisce and we get to talk about the old times, and that never gets old, but this is life and death stuff here and to raise funds and to make people more aware of Parkinson’s, or what Gibby calls ‘Parky,’” Trammell said. “They broke the mold with Kirk Gibson, and I mean that in a complimentary fashion. He’s a heck of a man and a good friend.” To follow up the bowling event, the Kirk Gibson Foundation hosted its seventh

annual Kirk Gibson Golf Classic Aug. 21 at Wyndgate Country Club in Rochester Hills to raise money to fight Parkinson’s, and the ’84 Tigers brought in some reinforcements to get the job done. As Gossage, Trammell and Rozema shared laughs near their respective golf carts before the outing, legendary Tigers catcher Lance Parrish joined in on the reunion to support his teammate. “This is a big deal to him, and it’s a big deal to anyone who has somebody that suffers from Parkinson’s or has a family member,” Parrish said. “It’s all in an effort, just like every charity event, to try to find a cure, and we’re hoping the little bit that we can all do to help in that regard is leading towards that direction.” While finding a cure is definitely at the top of the list, there was much conversation surrounding the Kirk Gibson Foundation’s center for Parkinson’s that is currently in the development stages. Putting heavy emphasis on achieving major progress in 2023, the Kirk Gibson Foundation’s managing director, Steve Annear, said the foundation is hoping to open the doors of the center to the Parkinson’s community within the next two years. “It’s been amazing,” Annear said. “I

ollowing biblical promises and a strong commitment, Michael Agnello said he feels obligated to bless others in the way he has been blessed. Agnello, the owner of Michael Agnello Jewelers, said he’s been in his business on Harper Avenue for 48 years. He trained in the store for 21 years before he opened his business at the same location in 1996, according to the Michael Agnello Jewelers website. There were opportunities later for him to move to other areas, but he ultimately decided to stay in St. Clair Shores. “I’ve been here my whole life and I said, ‘You know, I’m going to invest in St. Clair Shores. I want to stay in St. Clair Shores. I want to make this my home for my business,’” Agnello said. Agnello supports many things in the Shores, including the fireworks, the farmer’s market, the social district, parks and recreation, Lake Shore Public Schools, and a lot more. He also supports things outside of St. Clair Shores, including Faith Christian Schools, where his grandchildren attend classes. “I really feel a commitment to always give back,” Agnello said. Part of his strong commitment comes from Bible verses, including Luke 6:38, which promises, “Give, and it will be given to you.” Agnello said he’s seen the promise fulfilled in his store. “I do challenge other business owners all the time to say, ‘Look, I’ll show you what happens when you give it away,’” Agnello said. “Give it away, and it will come back every single time.” See AGNELLO on page 21A

Elvis from page 5A

G.I. Blues

According to Lang, Presley didn’t ask for any special treatment because of his fame. “Elvis was in a tank outfit. He went in as a regular army soldier and stayed that way until he got discharged,” Lang said. “I was in the scout platoon. I babysat a 30-caliber machine gun. My job was to find the enemy and go back and report it.” Lang lived in the barracks with his comrades, but Presley rented a house. Lang spent a lot of time there. There were dances and billiards. Presley’s charisma always stood out. “With blue eyes and pitch-black hair, he had a God-like face,” Lang said. “He was beautiful.” And there was a silly side to the megastar. “We did a lot of clowning around and kidding around. A lot of people don’t realize he was funny as hell,” Lang said. “He had a sense of humor that wouldn’t quit. He had the greatest laugh.” Sports were another pastime. When off duty, the group tossed around the football. Lang usually took on the position of halfback. Presley was the quarterback. “He had a great arm,” Lang remembered. The football games always drew a crowd. Followers of Presley would hang out on the sidelines for autographs, and the music idol always obliged. “Without my fans, I’d have nothing,” Presley told Lang. “Sometimes on Saturday afternoons, he’d have fans come over. He’d

sit and sign autographs. He loved his fans, and they loved him.” The Grammy winner also had a reputation for being generous with his friends. One way he showed his love was buying them presents. Lang still has two gifts he received from Presley: a Ronson lighter and a watch engraved with the words “To Johnny From Elvis.” At the time the entertainer was overseas, there was talk that his popularity would wane. But judging by the 10,000 letters he received every week, the legend with the swiveling hips from Tupelo, Mississippi, was still the King. He received so much fan mail, it filled an entire room in the house.

‘All the memories came flooding back.’

Lang’s home is decorated with Presley memorabilia, including old photos, plates, statues, ornaments and posters. “They call this Graceland II,” Lang said, referring to Presley’s Memphis estate. Lang didn’t see Presley after leaving the service. He got married at age 26, had five children and worked 30 years as a steelworker for J&L Steel in Warren. He was at a union meeting on Aug. 16, 1977, when he heard the news that Presley died. “My ex-wife called me. She said you might want to sit down,” Lang recalled. “I cried like a baby. It hit me like a ton of bricks. All the memories came flooding back.” Lang periodically thought about writing a book about Presley over the years. He got serious about it after the release of the 2022 film “Elvis,” starring Austin Butler as Presley and Tom Hanks as his manager, Col. Tom Parker. “I saw the movie with my children and

and “Air” statue scenes, the first two boulders in the War in Words, and the installation of “Joe” on the war front portion of the “Land” scene. President of the WWII Legacy Memorial John Maten said that if he could summarize the installation in one word, it would be “connection.” “How does this memorial help us do that? The statue of a soldier reading a letter from home in the memorial exemplifies this in many ways. Those letters were the instruments that allowed the soldiers and the family to stay connected as best they could,” he said. He also pointed out a quote on the statue from Cpl. Aarol W. “Bud” Irish, of Hemlock, that in part reads, “I can’t even start to explain how much the letter means over here. Just keep the letters coming and I’ll do the rest.” Future work planned for the memorial includes a goal to raise $300,000 to build the Wall of Stars, which would honor the 15,458 Michigan lives lost during World War II. Maten noted the statue of a soldier reading a letter was modeled after the father of the sculptor, Larry Halbert, and that there

are plans to make another scene a ways from the statue that would represent the parents of that soldier. “The reason we put it (away from the statue) is to represent the distance between the homefront and the war front, and that continuous connection that they had by way of their letters,” he said. “Another connection it makes is across the generations. As we lay down these paver bricks, we read the stories of the greatest generation. As we watch people find the bricks of loved ones, we see the emotions well and a memory come to life. You don’t even have to know the person to feel a connection to them.” Helping celebrate the dedication were two veterans of World War II, Art Fishman and Frances Masters. Fishman, a Navy veteran, remembered standing in the park 10 years ago when he was first told about the plans to create a memorial. He said he’s been able to see the national World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., and that his next goal was to live long enough to see this memorial. “As you walk through these bricks, you’re walking with the Greatest Generation,” he said. Masters was a Rosie the Riveter at the Willow Run bomber plant, which she joined right after high school. Her two brothers and

future husband also served in the war. She noted that her husband served in Iwo Jima and her oldest brother was in the Battle of the Bulge, though he sadly didn’t come back home. “I did my job riveting airplanes. … I lost about 10 pounds and gained 20 of muscle,” she said. “I did that throughout the war and I would do it again. I have no regrets.” Mark Reed, a member of both the Marines and Navy who served in Desert Storm, was taking in the memorial and Walk of Honor. He said the memorial was “long overdue.”

“I’m particularly interested in seeing that there are a lot of different things represented here,” he said. “It’s not simply the Army, Navy, Marines, whatever, but there’s a lot of civic organizations that are represented here as well, and a lot of civilian folks that contributed to the war effort in World War II as well — you know, the Rosie the Riveters and the people that worked in the automotive industry. You’ll see bricks commemorating them too. So it’s a good, long overdue memorial.” Call Staff Writer Mike Koury at (586) 498-1077.

lot goes into estate sales, and in addition to the planning and pricing, compassion and understanding are also important. Ashley Rodgers, the owner of Green Eyes Estate Sales who runs the business with her husband, Christopher Rodgers, listed a number of steps to get an estate sale ready. The first thing people can expect is a consultation with the estate sale company to gauge their needs. Then comes organizing and evaluating the items, staging and showcasing, announcing the estate sale, and, finally, hosting the sale. Ashley Rodgers described the first few hours of an estate sale as a “madhouse.” For organizational purposes, her company, as well as other companies, hand out numbers to the customers first in line and only allow a certain number of people in at a time.

Bourlier’s To Host Open House With Sales, Cooking Demos

Whether you’re looking to work or play, Bourlier’s has what you need to take command of your yard or patio. “We’ve been on Utica Road at this location since 1978 and in business since 1948,” said Brian Bourlier, the third-generation owner of the family business. “We’re a power equipment dealership with a full line of products, including Toro and Stihl. We offer sales, parts and service on everything we sell,” Bourlier said. “We also carry a full line of outdoor grilling products, including Napoleon, Weber, Traeger, Big Green Egg and Green Mountain Grills.” Cooking demonstrations and the best pricing of the year will welcome guests to Bourlier’s one-day open house on Sept. 16,

from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. “Last but not least, and people are not going to want to hear this but it’s true, we are having our special on snowblower mainte-

nance. Now is the time to get it done, not when it snows,” Bourlier said. You’ll find many of the products Bourli-

er’s sells or maintains at your local big-box retailer, but what you certainly won’t find there is the service this trusted family business provides. “Once you buy a product at Home Depot, they never want to see that product again, ever,” Bourlier said. “They’re done. They’ve got your money, and they’re done with you. I’m the exact opposite. I want to maintain your mower. I want to take care of you for 10 years.” With a well-stocked parts department and mechanics on staff who have been there for 35 and 40 years, Bourlier’s has invested in its employees and its inventory to meet the goal of total customer service satisfaction. “Everybody is factory-trained as well.

OPEN HOUSE Saturday, Sept.16th

They go to all the updated schools. We spend a lot of money to make sure my techs know what they’re doing,” Bourlier said. Bourlier’s is located at 35850 Utica Road, near Moravian Drive, a half-mile south of 16 Mile Road in Clinton Township. For more information, call (586) 7926300.

Community Choice Credit Union Lighten the squeeze on your wallet with these household finance tips If high interest-rates and inflation are affecting your household budget, you are not alone. While rising interest-rates have moderated some inflation pressures, chances are you are feeling some pain in your pocketbook. After all, the full-fledged impact of two years of inflation is hitting most consumers hard now, reducing their savings, eliminating large percentages of their disposable income and making it more difficult to pay off debt. This is having an impact on your disposable income. The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis confirms that the seasonally adjusted annual rate of personal saving dipped to 4.6 percent in February. That’s well below the average annual rate of more than 8 percent, which has been tracked since 1959. In June 2022, the rate had dipped to 2.7 percent, a 15-year low. Whether wallet pressure is an ongoing concern, or you’re simply looking to increase cash flow and save money, the good news is that high interest rates do not need to be a detriment

to meeting your goals. Increasing cash flow can help relieve that wallet pressure. So how can you increase cash flow during times of rising prices?

Something sweet is brewing at the Cheesecake Shoppe and Café goal was not to eliminate but to enhance and develop new flavors,” Mazzola said. “Everything is created and developed in our kitchen.” The most popular item among customers is the New York-style cheesecake with a choice of fruit, praline or chocolate toppings. Other favorites include the Oreo cookie, the turtle and the peanut butter cheesecakes. Sometimes you might be in the mood for a fudge swirl, or a raspberry swirl. The shop also sells sugarfree and gluten-free cheesecakes. “We do baklava- and tiramisu-inspired cheesecakes and a caramel apple ‘krumble’ with a streusel topping,” Mazzola said.

Mazzola and Kravitz have expanded the business by adding a coffee bar. “We say ‘Java Lives Here,’” Mazzola said. ”There is

think so far this year we’ve exceeded our own expectations of what we could do. The result of that means we’ll be able to more directly impact people that are living with Parkinson’s through the programs that we support and opening up our own center, which will be the Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson’s, where people will be able to come and get all these exercises and activity-based programs for free, so that’s kind of the centerpiece of what we’re doing here and we’re really excited about it.” The center will be home to a multitude of activity-based programs that the Kirk Gibson Foundation funds, including yoga, tai chi, bicycling, spin classes, breathing exercises, strength and weight training classes, dance classes, and many more. The center also will provide a support program to family members of people fighting Parkinson’s to help them cope and assist their loved ones. Don’t think of it in the context of a medical center, but rather as a sanctuary for people fighting Parkinson’s to walk in and feel like they’re at home. See GIBSON on page 23A

Estate sales from page 12A

Chris Deneau, the owner of Clearview Estate Sales, said every estate sale they host is completely different. People can be out of town, in town, have multiple family members involved and host of other scenarios. His company takes 35% of the profits, and he said they usually can get set up in a couple of days in a standard household. “We have been running into less and less standard households in the last couple of years and more hoarding situations, it seems,” Deneau said. How long it takes also depends on the estate. They’ve done estate sales that take a couple of days and also ones that take two to three weeks, Deneau said. It takes a while, Rodgers said, to price the items in the estate. Her company uses professionals to appraise everything. “Our pricing is based on careful research, years of experience and knowledge of the Detroit metro area market,” Rodgers said in an email. “Pricing is also a practice of knowing what current trends in home decor and decorating are popular.” Both Rodgers and Deneau said it depends on the family when it comes to what happens to the items that aren’t sold. “Our cleanout process includes selling items as a lot or bundle for deep discounts, donating leftover items to charity, utilizing refuse disposal services and sometimes even having free days,” Rodgers said in an email. Deneau said his company works with Grace Centers of Hope to donate items not sold. “There’s certain things that Grace Centers of Hope won’t take,” Deneau said. “So we really focus hard during the estate sale utilizing Facebook Marketplace, utilizing

Craigslist, utilizing specialty groups to try and get rid of items that may not be donatable after the sale.” Both Rodgers and Deneau said there does need to be empathy and compassion when getting ready for an estate sale. Rodgers said an estate sale doesn’t necessarily happen because a loved one dies; it can be for any number of reasons. Deneau said he’s signed contracts with a 90-year-old going into assisted living and a 21-year-old who lost her parents. “You have a lot of people that can deal with the situation, but you have a lot of people that you really need to be kind to and you need to walk them through the process very slowly or else they won’t make it through the process,” Deneau said. They also both said they have dealt with difficult customers who come to estate sales. Rodgers has security at their sales. “My company is run by myself and my husband, who is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL,” Rodgers said in the email. She said he “is in charge of security at every sale, and our dedicated staff members all work together to keep everyone safe and shopping happily.” People looking to host estate sales should be diligent about looking at reviews for a company, and they have to be careful of who they hire. “But you need to be very diligent about your Google and your Yelp reviews,” Deneau said. “Because you can very, very easily hire a company that can take advantage of you.” To get an estate sale started, Deneau said, people should take out anything they want to keep and then call an estate sale company. “You really don’t have to lift another finger other than taking the stuff out that you want,” Deneau said. He also said he doesn’t like to tell of the good deeds he does when he donates or supports different causes, saying “the right hand is not supposed to know what the left hand is doing.” He tells others he doesn’t want any plaques or trophies for the work that he does. Agnello’s parents still live in the Shores. He said his father, John Agnello, was responsible for starting the Memorial Day Parade and was a part of it for close to 25 years. John was honored as a special guest at the most recent Memorial Day Parade. John is 93 and Agnello’s mother is 90. “That was a volunteer thing that he did,” Agnello said about his father’s involvement in the parade. “He did not get paid to put those parades on.” Agnello graduated from Lake Shore High School with the Class of 1973 and recently spoke at the commencement ceremony for the school’s 100th graduating class. He told the students about biblical promises and the feeling volunteering or helping others could give you. “What can make you feel better than doing something for somebody else and

They include cleaning up the beach or something as simple as slipping money under the door at the home of someone who is struggling. He also emphasized not expecting anything in return. “Nothing is a better feeling than giving and having the opportunity to give away,” Agnello said. Another Bible verse that inspires him is Luke 12:48, which promises, “Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required.” “I’ve been blessed hugely,” Agnello said. “And by being blessed like that, you have an obligation to go and bless others.”

think they do a great job with it, and I think it’s becoming something that people are going to want to see and go to for years to come.” Samantha McKean, beverage director for Cache Cocktail & Wine Bar, said the social district has been awesome this year and that it’s been busier than last year. “I just think that now more people are hearing about it, and now that they have more activities for the kids and stuff, it’s really cool,” McKean said. “But yeah, it’s been pretty insane actually.” McKean also said that the wine bar has been doing incredibly well during the social districts. “We are packed to the brim every social district,” McKean said. “We brought in live music for those days, too, so it keeps people in here.” The wine bar uses social district cups that allow patrons to take their drinks out of the business. They haven’t seen any problems with patrons in terms of alcohol or the cups. McKean couldn’t think of anything to improve the district off the top of her head

and students see it, they see it as a pet. They’re not afraid to approach it. They’re not afraid to let the dog get near them,” Guidice said. He said this is purposeful. If a student is carrying a dangerous item, the closer the dog gets to them the better. Guidice said the dog handlers are typically retired military personnel or law enforcement officers. Dawn Zonca is the handler for Lakeview and the dog for the first month will be Gator, a 17-month-old chocolate Lab. Gator will be replaced by a permanent dog that the students will get to name. “Here at Lakeview, Dawn, the handler, was a handler for 15 years with the Michigan State Police,” Guidice said. “So she retired from Michigan State Police as a K-9 handler and then we hired her.” The dog will spend more time socializing than working in the first couple of days for students to get to know the new dog and handler, Guidice said. Paulson added that the dog will also be introduced at assemblies. There are already systems in place to protect students and staff in Lakeview schools. Those include locking the doors to the outside, buzzing in guests at the front door, multiple cameras in the

buildings and a system called BluePoint. “Which is the ability for any of our staff members who are carrying a fob to hold two buttons down and initiate a lockdown in the school,” Paulson said. Pushing the key fob buttons will activate an announcement, and alarms that will not stop until someone manually stops them. Emergency services are also contacted when the buttons are pressed. It allows staff members to immediately take action if they see something suspicious in the hallways or around the schools. Paulson is not worried about the need to have such procedures in place at the schools. He mentioned that the fire doors are made so they will not burn through for 90 minutes, when fire drills are made to get students out of the schools in 45 seconds. “But why do we do it?” Paulson said. “Well, because it’s safer. If we can build it that way and you’re going to keep that for 100 years, let’s build it that way. I look at this (safety procedures) the same way.” He reiterated that he hopes no one ever tries to walk in with a gun. “But if they do, we’ve got a procedure in place that will prevent them from getting in at least for a few minutes with a locked door and some process that keeps them from getting in,” Paulson said.
