Securing a Co-op Placement The job market for co-op is very competitive and students are expected to be active participants in their job searches, this includes demonstrated activity on the myCareer Job Posting System. Lambton College cannot guarantee co-op positions for students. Success in finding a co-op involves a number of factors that are not controlled by Lambton College. Limited assistance is provided to students in finding co-op placements. Students will also be expected to canvass employers to find their own placements. Completing either a co-op work term or Applied Project - due to a low GPA (less than 2.5) - is mandatory for graduation. Any student who secures his or her own co-op position must verify with the co-op advisor assigned to the program that the proposed co-op is appropriate and will be approved before accepting the position. Co-op Fees and Associated Costs Students pay co-op fees in order to receive employment support services from the Co-op Coordinator including co-op preparation workshops, one-on-one assistance and the opportunity to apply for co-op positions posted on the myCareer System. Students are responsible for all personal costs, relocation costs, transportation arrangements to employment interviews and to the job site, and for living accommodations during co-op terms. Relocation to different cities in Canada is often required. To qualify as a co-op credit the student must:
•
Complete of a minimum of 420 hours of full time co-op work over the four-month period in Term 4 Full-time is defined by the Government of Canada as 30 hours of work per week or more

Pharmacy Technician Program Code: PHRM (International) Length of Program: Two-Year Awarded Upon Completion: Ontario College Diploma Starts: Sep (Open) Location: Sarnia A Pharmacy Technician is an essential health professional within the health care team. This program offers low student-teacher ratios with experts who continue to work in the field. As a Pharmacy Technician student, you will gain the knowledge, skills and professionalism required for success in both retail and hospital settings. You will learn about relevant legislation, health care ethics, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, customer care, hospital and retail software systems, calculations, inventory management, hospital practice, and infection control. Traditional in-class instruction is enhanced through teamwork, role playing activities, guest speakers and innovative lessons. A fully equipped community/hospital lab provides students with hands-on experience dispensing medications, compounding pharmaceuticals and developing aseptic techniques. During the fourth term, second year students travel outside of Lambton College as part of a capstone assignment for PHR-4072. This trip includes presentations, tours, networking and opportunities to see other areas in which a pharmacy technician can work. Students will complete two unpaid four-week field placements under the supervision of a pharmacist/technician during term four: one in a community pharmacy and one in a hospital pharmacy setting. These placements are arranged by the program coordinator and travel may be required. Although every attempt is made to place students in their choice of location, this will be subject to placement availability.

Student-Centered Hybrid Learning Advantage Beginning in 2016, eight post-graduate programs are offering the Student-Centered Hybrid Learning Advantage at Lambton College in Toronto: Traditional college and university student timetables aren’t structured to optimize your time – they are structured to optimize the institution’s time. Student-Centered Hybrid Learning is about creating a more efficient class schedule for dedicated post graduate students. Some important attributes of the Student-Centered Hybrid Learning scheduling model include: •
•
•
3 in-class intensive study days per week (students are required to attend between 5 – 7 hours of instruction per day). The traditional post-secondary model often schedules several hours of instruction per day across five days of the week with frequent breaks throughout the day in an uneven pattern leading to excessive periods of idleness, commuting time and inefficiencies for the student. The Student Centered Hybrid Learning Advantage is designed with the belief that a post-graduate student’s time is valuable and should not be wasted. Courses are taught in a hybrid format with 80% of the course objectives taught in class (on campus) and the remainder of the course objectives taught online through video lectures, discussion groups and interactive exercises. Small differences and/or variations in the class scheduling model described above may occur between programs and/or courses.
With this weekly schedule, students enjoy several benefits: • • • • •
Less time commuting on public transit More time to complete homework, projects and assignments More time to volunteer, integrate and contribute to the community of Toronto More time to expand personal and professional networks/contacts Increased availability for part time work opportunities
The Student-Centered Hybrid Learning Advantage requires students to possess a high level of self-discipline and time management skills and is only suitable for students who are committed to attending and participating regularly in all classes.
