Ed O’Hara, RLA Director of CHA Sports Ed O’Hara is one of the country’s premier sports designers. He has designed and overseen the installation of over 250 synthetic turf fields as well as over 400 natural grass turf fields. Tim Whitney, AIA Principal Sports Architect Tim has more than 35 years’ experience designing collegiate athletic facilities, wellness centers, sports arenas, and stadiums. Tim has performed a variety of project tasks, including master planning, architectural design, project management, and project leadership.

Each year, the athletic and recreation landscape reinvents itself with new regulations, changing funding sources, materials, technologies, and other challenges. Our nationally renowned sports professionals translate the industry’s changing demands into buildable, affordable and exciting sports facilities. We blend high-quality designs with a modern perspective to create venues that foster unique, personal experiences with each visit. We offer an outstanding blend of skills including in-house architecture, landscape architecture, and full engineering capabilities in a single comprehensive package. Our engineers, architects, planners, turf specialists, and project managers skillfully integrate project schedules and budgets into the design process. This approach has produced award-winning results for high schools, colleges and professional sports teams across the United States. CHA boasts an impressive resume of hundreds of highly visible sports projects across the US. These include: Williams College, Weston Field: New venues for football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s field hockey, and track and field, a new team pavilion, and spectator facilities. University of South Carolina Varsity Tennis Complex: New 12-court lighted tennis facility, including a raised concrete viewing concourse, seating for 600 spectators, a designated press area, and a multilevel support building. Howard University, John H. Burr Gymnasium: Designed gymnasium upgrades with respect to image, codes, mechanical, electrical and programmatic needs. The focus was placed on visually striking but cost effective and functional improvements.
Boston University, New Balance Field: Design of a new lighted synthetic turf practice and recreation sports field on a structured deck over on-grade parking. Stony Brook University, Track and Field Facility: New eight-lane 400M track facility surrounding an artificial turf soccer field. City of Overland Park, Overland Park Youth Soccer Complex: Twelve new professional size synthetic turf fields, sports lighting, and a field cooling system. City of Manchester, JFK Coliseum: Full renovations to historic rink including refrigeration equipment, and interior and exterior building upgrades. Duke University, Koskinen Stadium: New outdoor track and field facility and renovations to lacrosse/ soccer stadium, shared press box. Harvard University, Master Plan: Comprehensive recreation and athletics master plan for Allston Campus. The Pingry School, Sports Center: New field house with track, 6-court squash center, fitness center, lockers and support areas. Greater Dover Committee, Kent County Sports Complex: New 100 acre multi-use recreational facility including 12 synthetic turf fields and one stadium field with seating for approximately 1,000. City of Johnson City, Science Hill High Stadium: Upgrades include the synthetic turf multi-purpose field, track resurfacing, 5,000 seat bleachers, and additional spectator amenities.
