Albany High School Expansion Albany City School District – Albany, NY

In 2015 The Albany City School District embarked on an ambitious program to meet the expected increase in enrollment that is anticipated to occur over the next 10 years. The existing campus which was constructed in the early 1970’s needed to be upgraded to meet the demands of providing students with a diverse, state of the art environment for academic and technical learning. CSArch, as the lead architectural firm, commissioned CHA to provide civil engineering, structural engineering, environmental, and landscape architectural design services in support of the project. #

With a construction budget of $180 million the project’s centerpiece is a three story atrium that connects the existing facility with new three story academic wing and a two story arts wing. New additions totaling more than 300,000 SF will include learning academies with science, computer labs, general classrooms, secure visitor/ student entrance, dinning and assembly. The complex logistics of developing a phasing plan that effectively coordinated both rehabilitation and new construction while minimizing disruptions to ongoing academic operations was a critical component of the design effort.
