Historic & Covered Bridges Long Span Bridges Railroad Bridges Over Waterways Scouring Inspections Design-Build
Spans CHA’s expertise with bridge design spans virtually every type of bridge. CHA’s experience in bridge design spans six decades. CHA’s commitment and availability spans the entire length of every project. There are many reasons we’ve been ranked as a “Top 30” bridge design firm by the folks we serve – state and local transportation agencies. Our QA/QC program is run by a retired chief bridge engineer and a retired state Director of the Quality Assurance Bureau. Beyond knowing the ins-and-outs of the design and analysis of steel bridges, we know the ins and outs of prestressed concrete, post-tensioned concrete, curved girders, conventional foundations, and complex foundations. We’re also experts in timber bridges, long span bridges, bridge inspections, bridge scour, and on and on. Our knowledge spans a great deal.
Timber and Covered Bridges CHA has designed historic covered bridges including the replacement of the world’s longest single span Towne lattice truss bridge in Bartonsville, VT with historic accuracy. Having a staff member who was co-author on the FHWA timber bridge manual, which is considered one of the foremost authorities on covered bridge analysis and restoration design in the world, proves our strength in knowledge.
Long Span Bridges For more than half a century, we’ve provided practical, progressive, cost-efficient projects to hundreds of state and local agencies. Our professionals use the strength of knowledge gained from thousands of projects to craft effective, unique solutions for each individual project.
Railroad Bridges CHA has a great deal of experience with the inspection, analysis and rehabilitation and replacement design of deck girder, thru-girder, and truss rail bridges, with major assignments completed for CSXT, NorfolkSouthern, Amtrak and CP Rail.
Over Waterways CHA has vast experience with the design of waterway structures, ensuring hydraulic capacity, structural integrity, and safety.
Bridge Scour CHA’s depth of experience ranges from statewide program development, to countermeasure repair designs on all types of bridges. We are on the leading edge of scour evaluations and compliance issues including development of plan of actions, underwater inspections, screenings, assessments, countermeasure design options, and full scour evaluations (including complex hydraulic modeling of thousands of bridges).
Bridge Inspections State agencies, bridge authorities, rail companies, and municipalities have trusted CHA’s expertise to inspect more than 15,000 bridges, identify deficiencies, and prevent problems before they happen. Our nationally recognized scour experts identify risks and design stateof-the-art countermeasures.
Historic Bridges CHA continually provides groundbreaking ideas; providing the best possible solutions while maintaining historic integrity elements, while providing the structural integrity required to keep these historic bridges in service for as long as possible.
Bridge Design-Build Our construction services begin with the design—when the best opportunity for cost savings exists.
