Adapt

I believe that design is all about adaptability; the ability to tailor to each project’s needs, being able to work with the situation and not against it. Possessing the ability to adapt means taking risks that may lead to successes or failures. Adaptability allows you to realize that a project can become something much more than what it already is. It allows you to become more confident as a designer by exploring new techniques and experimenting with them. I see myself as a hands-on kind of designer who enjoys and appreciates the traditional methods of design whether it is letterpress or constructing the solution out of raw materials. The process of creating the solution out of nothing is amazing in itself and I feel the process is more enjoyable than the actual final solution. Knowing the procedure makes the viewer more appreciative of the hard work you put in. As my design career unfolds, I find myself still utilizing these traditional methods of design that simply cannot be replicated by technology alone.

Spacebar

OBJECTIVE Create a new look and feel for both the iOS and Android Spacebar app. Rebranding of the Spacebar brand was done to coincide with the app redesign. SOLUTION The original look and feel of the Spacebar app was highly skeuomorphic resembling an old radio face that took the user’s focus away from the functionality of the app itself. With the redesign I wanted to simplify the user interface and concentrate on the functionality of the app itself. To achieve this I brought the profile picture art into the background making each show unique.

Bolt Star

OBJECTIVE Develop a brand identity for a pole positioning tool used in construction. SOLUTION By taking visual cues from the shapes and colors of the Bolt Star itself I developed a brand identity that uses some of these elements including the geometric shape and bright colors. Since this tool is primarily used in a construction setting I wanted to create an industrial and masculine look. This was achieved by using subtle line work and bold and geometric typography.

McAfee Knockout

OBJECTIVE To create an award that reflected and recognized a ‘rockstar’ sales performance in the McAfee internal sales team. SOLUTION To play up the “Rockstar” theme, several custom guitar and pick illustrations were created to choose from. Once chosen, the illustration was then printed and placed as an embediment inside a solid block of lucite. Angel wings, which was reminiscent of the rockstar lookand-feel, were then etched in the back of the lucite block. The result added another level of dimension and interactivity, making the award more unique.

AHRC Annual Report

OBJECTIVE Create an annual report revolving around the theme “Technology Enhancing Lives”. SOLUTION The concept behind the annual report was to highlight how AHRC uses technology to aid and enhance the lives of their community. Fun mini cityscape illustrations of each burrow in New York were created for every section highlighting the type of technology that is being used by AHRC.

Drip Dry

OBJECTIVE Develop a fabric line with three unique swatches for the line. Each of the fabric swatches must have exhibited contrast, different and work together as a whole. One of the swatches had to be type dominant. The fabric must then be used in the creation of two chosen products to go to market. SOLUTION The concept of the fabric line combines two different themes with a similarity of hang drying clothes as well as hang drying photographs. The fabric was then used to create a product line that consisted of a tote bag, laundry hamper, and note card set.
