Getting Cozy

We wanted to create a special space to snuggle up and read a book within another room, like a bedroom or hearth room. An easy way to make an inspiring corner of any room is to introduce a beautiful room divider small or large depending on the space. We used a sea grass 3-panel divider, which still let the light through but added some separation to the space for our nook. A small secretary desk works wonders for looks and organization, or if you are like me a place to stuff it all in and feel at peace when you close the doors! A Settee or small love-seat is perfect for a snuggle with your significant other, or stretch out a bit with your book by yourself depending on your mood. Throw in an ottoman for extra lounging and use it as a flat surface for a basket of your favorite books!

Less Is More

Although Designer Consignment has a reputation of carrying beautiful traditional pieces, we also get our share of amazing modern ones as well! We fell in love with this two-sided slide out frosted glass table top with modern chairs and a hutch to match! The warm tones of the wood complimented the frosted glass and black leather seats…perfect combination! The thing to remember with modern and contemporary designs is that less is more! A simple floral arrangement (ours being with an Asian flare) lets the table shine. The hutch was the perfect companion in the room, which we used as a wine bar with all the accessories needed to provide a cozy evening with friends.

Mixing Styles

Mixing modern with traditional is one of my favorite tasks when working at Designer Consignment. This gorgeous paisley tufted sofa came in and needed a good home. We mixed custom Japanese furniture in high gloss black and brought in deep wood tones with an occasional table and accessories to warm or soften the modern lines and finishes. We also couldn’t pass up using the African motif room divider as a backdrop to the side table. The gold leaf lamp was brought in to add additional accent lighting and added a glow to the artistic divider. The actual glass shelves of the bookcase had back and front lighting which makes this a great piece for displaying your favorite artifacts!

Iron Works

One thing Designer Consignment never seems to be short of is great iron pieces! We received a stunning iron floor mirror, an iron horse embellished demi lune table and a side table with iron grille work doors‌what would be more perfect together? We love to layer, and it worked very well above the hall side table. We grouped a similar theme of pictures together and topped it off with a feisty horse and a couple of ornate lamps. Two different lamps to be exact, you don’t always have to have a pair! I think different but similar is better and more eclectic. This Bernhardt chair and ottoman worked perfect in its neutral tones, we just added some cheerful pillows, a throw and of course a tray for Tea or Coffee!

Classic Neutrals

This custom Madden McFarland leather sofa stands the test of time, and just needed some complimenting accents. Try a different focal point to a wall with out using the same flat picture. We found this extra large clock with great textured insets. The brown works great with the neutral grey leather. Candleholder wall sconces bring depth and interest to the wall as well, we added one to each side of the clock and found some fun metal pieces to hang as art above the vignette. Perfect for when you want to light your candles, imagine the reflections they would give off in the evening. Leopard or animal print is so fun, just add bits and pieces and don’t over do it. Otherwise you may feel like you were dropped in the jungle!

French Country Charm

Farm tables are classic and can be used with any design inspiration.Throw some modern chairs in the mix, or for a more French Country look, add a bench on one side and coordinating chairs (but not necessarily matching) for the rest of the table. Two wing back chairs in a small scale would even be great as captain chairs. So many options! Don’t forget the China‌I know now days everyone wants microwave safe dishware, but for those special occasions (or special people) throw a little romance in and just add some colorful china to your basic white dishware, then you only have half as much to hand wash and it will be worth the impression it demands!

Christmas Cheer

Just a few simple touches of Christmas cheer transform this living room to the perfect holiday hibernating destination. The best thing about a neutral sofa is how easy they are to update every season! Just pack the Summer pillows and bring out the crimson red and your half way there. Adding a cozy faux fur throw for comfort and texture will keep your loved ones nestled by the fire. Christmas balls, oh so many pretty ones! Mixing vintage with modern always gives that great collected eclectic look. Why not put your favorites in a bowl on your end table or coffee table so you can really enjoy how they sparkle by the fire.

Sunroom Inspiration

Choosing a color scheme with a backdrop of nature can easily make the sky the limit! As mentioned in our “Tips for choosing Color look for inspiration in fabrics or accessories as a starting point and embrace your space! These rattan occasional chairs are the perfect jumping off point for our sunroom color inspiration. The tropical theme gives us a playful seating area with a plenty of color and bold pattern. We brought in supporting colors of blue and orange to compliment the greens in the pattern of the chairs, the foliage and the nature bursting through the windows.
