I was fortunate to have a prairie as a back yard that backed up to a riparian corridor and woods in western Wisconsin. In the years that followed, the spirit of exploration nurtured in my youth has guided me to continue enjoying the outdoors through hiking, cycling, camping, and landscape architecture. However I have spent half of my life as an urban dweller and fully appreciate the civic and cultural experiences that exist in the city. I have lived extensively in two different metropolitan areas and visited several others. I love going to cultural events such as art shows, music, film, theatre, and ethnic dining.

MAVS Mane EPA CAMPUS RAINWORKS CHALLENGE The Environmental Protection Agency tasked academia to rethink their use of water now and into the future. The purpose of the competition was to develop designs illustrating conservation of water resources, and to educate the public on ways to improve the safety and welfare of outdoor spaces. “Mavs’ Mane” is the final studio project in my Master’s of Landscape Architecture studio sequence. The project consisted of fellow landscape architecture and planning students, with input from the University of Texas at Arlington’s building management and an adjunct practicing building engineer. The design team consisted of Jamie Leonie Chism, Tony Wade, and myself. The design focused attention on the unconnected campus quad between Texas Hall, and the Main Library. Axial views and connections were severed with the lowering of Cooper Street that cut through the center of the campus. The goal of the design is to lower the campus water use while also redesigning a popular yet under designed main campus quad. The concept increased the retention of water on-site during storm events. by reducing 39% of impervious surfaces on select building roofs, and pavement. The design also converts typical turf grass to native species to retain greater amounts of water. This new hydrology system would be designed to hold back the first two inches of rainfall improving the safety and water quality of the Trinity River and other related watersheds. The curvilinear aspect of the design makes a subtle connection to the UT Arlingtons mascot the maverick horse.

ARTERIAL RAIN GARDEN DESIGN URBAN DESIGN MEETS LOW IMPACT DESIGN This rain garden design splits a four lane roadway into a double ridgeline sending the stormwater to both sides of each respective vehicular direction. The plants within the median have different water needs that are meet by existing rainfall once the root systems have been established. PHOTOSHOP, AUTOCAD, INDESIGN, PHOTOGRAPHY

RIBBONS OF LIGHT CUSTOMIZATION OF PARK AMENITIES Ribbons of Light is an exploration of district and landmark branding for a pocket park. The concept creates a lively night time environment that illuminates and could be programable to change color themes for different times of the year. The design backlights acrylic strips with LED lighting. Stainless steel, hardwood cladding, and concrete make up the rest of the materials. SKETCH UP, LUMION, PHOTOSHOP, INDESIGN

QUAIL HOLLOW FILLING THE VOID WITH REST AND RELAXATION This residential design ties the homes spanish and asian architectural influences to modern outdoor living. The upper deck would be connected to the lower deck with a spiral staircase. Existing limestone masonary work would be continued into the steep landscape through a series of stone arched switchbacks flanked with a cascading water runnel that leads to a gathering and meditative space. BUILDING TYPOLOGIES
TOD ARLINGTON CONNECTING THE PAST TO THE FUTURE Once a center of the cotton industry, Arlington Texas has seen some changes over the past several decades. Post world war II led city planners to abandon the old downtown by knocking down and replacing it with modern buildings. The closing down of the arterial access to Main Street also changed the spirit and economics of downtown Arlington for the worse. This design aims to correct those issues through re-opening Main Street, and rebuilding the train depot in the footprint of the original. It also strengthens the arts by expanding a sculpture park, populating downtown with economic and housing opportunities, and designs a safer pedestrian experience with trails and bump out intersections.

DIGITAL FABRICATION PROJECT STORMCLOUD Project Stormcloud was an introduction to parametric design, computer aided manufacturing, laser cutting, and project management. The overall form was created in Rhino after several prototypes then exported into Autocad to create cutting sheets for the laser-cutter and CNC router. The seven member team came together to sand, patch, prime, and paint the frames and attach the fabric. Assembly of the frame happened in sections and then combined as a whole before installation on-site. SKETCHING, RHINO, AUTOCAD, POWERTOOLS, HANDTOOLS
